Bio

I aspire to become a nurse since I took a fond in taking care of my brother. I am also an older sister so I have to lead an example for my younger brother to follow. That inspired me to want to become a nurse. I am very passionate about cheerleading and dance. I have been in cheer for almost 3 years, and I enjoyed performing for school events like open houses and pep rallies. But I also enjoy performing in competitions that we prepare for. I was in dance for 4 years at school where we also performed at school events as well. Also, we practice for the dance recital that is held annually. I love helping others when I get a chance and I am always there for my friend when they are in need.

It was during my junior year of high school when I found myself facing a significant challenge. I was struggling academically, and my grades were plummeting. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't grasp the material or perform well on my exams. It was a daunting and overwhelming time, and I felt like drowning in a sea of frustration and disappointment. As the pressure mounted, I turned to my faith to guide me through this turbulent period. I come from a deeply religious family, and from a young age, I was taught to always lean on my faith in times of trouble. So, I turned to prayer and meditation to help me find the strength and courage to overcome my academic struggles. I sought solace in my faith community, attending church services regularly and seeking support and guidance from my pastors and fellow church members. Their words of encouragement and reassurance helped me feel less alone in my struggles, and their prayers for my success gave me hope that I could overcome this obstacle. My pastor was one of the key figures in my journey of relying on faith to overcome my academic challenges. He took me under his wing and provided me with the guidance and support I needed to push through this difficult time. He encouraged me to trust in God's plan for me and to believe in my abilities to succeed. His unwavering faith in me and his constant prayers for my academic success gave me the strength and determination to keep going, even when things seemed bleak. Another influential individual in my journey was my English teacher. Despite my low grades in her class, she saw something in me that I couldn't see in myself at the time. She took the time to work with me one-on-one, patiently explaining concepts and helping me improve my writing and analytical skills. Her belief in my potential and her dedication to helping me succeed gave me the motivation to push myself harder and strive for excellence in my academics. As I continued to rely on my faith, I began to see gradual improvements in my grades and overall academic performance. Through prayer, meditation, and the unwavering support of my faith community, I was able to overcome my academic challenges and start to thrive in school once again. This experience taught me the power of faith and resilience in the face of adversity. It showed me that even in our darkest moments, we can find strength and hope through our faith and the support of those around us. It also taught me the importance of believing in ourselves and our abilities, even when the odds seem stacked against us. Looking back on this challenging time in my life, I am grateful for the lessons I learned and the growth I experienced. It has reinforced my belief in the power of faith to overcome obstacles and has given me the confidence to face future challenges with courage and determination. I know that no matter what obstacles may come my way, I can rely on my faith to guide me through and help me emerge stronger on the other side.

Nightingale's emphasis on sanitation and hygiene laid the foundation for contemporary nursing practices, emphasizing the importance of patient care and well-being. In addition to Nightingale, other influential individuals in the field of nursing have made significant contributions to the profession. Nurses like Mary Seacole, who provided care to soldiers during the Crimean War, and Clara Barton, the founder of the American Red Cross, have played instrumental roles in shaping the way healthcare is delivered today. These pioneers have inspired me to continue my education and contribute to the field of nursing in a meaningful way. Losing my grandmother to breast cancer was a devastating blow to our family. She was the matriarch, the glue that held us all together, and her absence is still keenly felt to this day. As I reflect on her battle with this terrible disease, I am reminded of the importance of breast health education. It is a topic that is near and dear to my heart, as I believe that knowledge is power when it comes to preventing and fighting breast cancer. Historically, breast health education has not always been a priority. Women were often left in the dark about their own bodies, with little information available about breast health and cancer prevention. It was not until the late 20th century that the importance of breast health education began to gain traction, thanks in large part to the efforts of key figures such as Dr. Susan Love and Nancy Brinker. Dr. Susan Love is a pioneering breast cancer surgeon and advocate for breast health education. She has dedicated her career to researching and raising awareness about breast cancer, and her book "Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book" is considered a must-read for women seeking information about breast health. Nancy Brinker, on the other hand, founded the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in honor of her sister who passed away from breast cancer. The foundation is now one of the leading organizations in the fight against breast cancer, funding research, education, and advocacy programs around the world. The impact of breast health education cannot be overstated. By educating women about the importance of breast self-exams, mammograms, and early detection, we can empower them to take control of their own health and potentially save lives. Breast cancer is a disease that affects women of all ages and backgrounds, and it is crucial that we arm ourselves with knowledge and awareness to combat it effectively. On a personal level, the loss of my grandmother to breast cancer has inspired me to become an advocate for breast health education. I am committed to spreading awareness about the importance of regular screenings, self-exams, and healthy lifestyle choices that can reduce the risk of developing breast cancer. By sharing my grandmother's story and raising awareness in my community, I hope to honor her memory and prevent other families from experiencing the same loss. However, despite the progress that has been made in breast health education, there are still challenges and barriers that need to be addressed. In some communities, access to healthcare services and information about breast health is limited, leading to disparities in breast cancer outcomes. Additionally, misconceptions and stigma surrounding breast cancer can prevent women from seeking help and getting screened. Looking to the future, I believe that breast health education will continue to evolve and improve, thanks to advances in technology, research, and advocacy. Organizations like the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the American Cancer Society are leading the charge in funding research and education programs that are making a difference in the fight against breast cancer. By working together and sharing our stories, we can create a future where breast cancer is no longer a threat to women's health and well-being. My grandmother may be gone, but her legacy lives on in the work that I do to promote breast health education and awareness.

Growing up, I was always drawn to the field of nursing. It was not only a profession that offered stability and a sense of purpose, but it also provided me with the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of others. As I delved deeper into my studies, I found myself increasingly passionate about helping those with chronic autoimmune conditions. These individuals face unique challenges that require specialized care and support, and I am committed to doing everything in my power to alleviate their suffering and improve their quality of life. In order to effectively assist those with chronic autoimmune conditions, it is crucial to first understand the historical context of these conditions and how they have been approached in the past. Autoimmune diseases are a diverse group of conditions that arise from an overactive immune response against the body's own tissues. Historically, these conditions were poorly understood and often misdiagnosed, leading to significant delays in treatment and unnecessary suffering for patients. However, advances in medical research and technology have greatly improved our understanding of autoimmune diseases and have paved the way for more effective treatments and interventions. One key figure in the field of autoimmune disease research is Dr. Noel Rose, a renowned immunologist who made significant contributions to our understanding of the immune system and its role in autoimmune diseases. His groundbreaking work laid the foundation for many of the treatments and interventions that are used today to help those with chronic autoimmune conditions. His dedication to advancing the field has inspired generations of researchers and healthcare professionals, myself included, to strive for excellence in the care of these patients. In my chosen field of nursing, I plan to focus on providing holistic and patient-centered care to individuals with chronic autoimmune conditions. This includes not only addressing their physical symptoms and medical needs, but also attending to their emotional and psychological well-being. Living with a chronic illness can be incredibly challenging, and it is important for healthcare providers to offer compassionate support and understanding to their patients. By building trusting relationships and truly listening to their concerns, I believe that I can help patients feel more empowered and in control of their health. One aspect of care that I am particularly passionate about is patient education. Many individuals with chronic autoimmune conditions struggle to understand their diagnosis and treatment options, which can lead to confusion and frustration. As a nurse, I plan to take the time to thoroughly explain their condition, treatment plan, and self-care strategies in a way that is easy to understand. By providing patients with the knowledge and tools they need to manage their condition effectively, I hope to empower them to take an active role in their healthcare and improve their overall quality of life. While my intentions to help those with chronic autoimmune conditions are well-meaning, it is important to acknowledge the potential challenges and limitations that I may face in this field. As a nurse, I will undoubtedly encounter patients who are resistant to change or who struggle to adhere to their treatment regimens. Additionally, I may face barriers in accessing resources and support services that are essential for providing comprehensive care to these individuals. Despite these challenges, I am committed to continuously learning and growing as a healthcare provider in order to better serve my patients and make a positive impact in their lives. In conclusion, my goal in the field of nursing is to help those with chronic autoimmune conditions live healthier and more fulfilling lives.

    GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
As a teenager, I have always found music to be a powerful tool for expressing thoughts and emotions that are often difficult to put into words. One song that has recently struck a chord with me is Olivia Rodrigo's 'GUTS'. The lyrics that particularly resonate with my teenage experience are "I've been holding myself back, holding it in, I think it's time to let myself win. "This lyric captures the essence of adolescence in a profound way. As teenagers, we often find ourselves in situations where we hold back our true thoughts and feelings, whether it be out of fear of judgment or rejection, or simply because we are still trying to figure out who we are. This internal struggle can be incredibly challenging and can lead to feelings of frustration and loneliness. The idea of letting oneself win is a powerful message that encourages us to be authentic and true to ourselves, even when it might be difficult or uncomfortable. Adolescence is a time of immense growth and change, both physically and emotionally. It is a period of transition between childhood and adulthood, where we are trying to establish our identity and find our place in the world. This process can be overwhelming and stressful, as we navigate relationships, academic pressures, and societal expectations. The lyric from 'GUTS' emphasizes the importance of self-acceptance and self-empowerment, which are key components of building resilience and coping with the challenges of adolescence. In addition to the internal struggles that adolescents face, there are also external factors that can impact their well-being. Peer pressure, social media, and societal norms can all contribute to feelings of inadequacy and insecurity. The pressure to fit in and be liked by others can be incredibly intense, leading teenagers to question their own worth and value. The lyric "I think it's time to let myself win" serves as a reminder that our worth is not determined by others' opinions of us, but by our own self-love and confidence. Throughout history, there have been influential individuals who have grappled with the complexities of adolescence and have used their platform to advocate for the well-being of teenagers. From psychologists like Erik Erikson, who developed the theory of psychosocial development, to pop culture icons like Britney Spears, who have opened up about their own struggles with mental health, there have been many figures who have brought attention to the unique challenges faced by adolescents. Looking ahead to the future, it is important to continue to have open and honest conversations about the challenges of adolescence and to provide support and resources for teenagers who are struggling. By promoting self-acceptance and self-empowerment, we can help teenagers navigate the ups and downs of adolescence with resilience and strength. The lyric from 'GUTS' serves as a powerful reminder that it is okay to be vulnerable and to embrace our true selves, even in the face of adversity. Adolescence is a time of growth and discovery, and by letting ourselves win, we can emerge stronger and more confident than ever before.

As the game progressed, there were several close calls that I had to make, much to the chagrin of the players and spectators. However, in one pivotal moment, a player from the visiting team made an incredible buzzer-beater shot to win the game. Reflecting on my journey as a female family friend who has lost a loved one to suicide has been a process of healing, growth, and self-discovery. One of the biggest challenges I have faced as a suicide loss survivor is dealing with the overwhelming sense of guilt and shame that often accompanies such a loss. I found myself constantly questioning if there was something I could have done differently to prevent the tragedy, if I missed any signs or signals that could have alerted me to the extent of the pain my loved one was feeling. These feelings of guilt and self-blame took a toll on my mental health and well-being, causing me to spiral into a deep sense of despair and hopelessness. Through therapy and support groups for suicide loss survivors, I have learned that it is not my fault that my loved one chose to take their own life. I have come to understand that suicide is a complex and multifaceted issue, and that there is often no single cause or person to blame for such a tragic event. Learning to let go of the guilt and shame I carried within me has been a crucial step in my healing process, allowing me to begin the journey towards acceptance and forgiveness. In addition to grappling with feelings of guilt and shame, I have also had to confront the stigma and misconceptions surrounding suicide. Society often views suicide as a taboo topic, something to be whispered about in hushed tones or swept under the rug in shame. As a suicide loss survivor, I have had to navigate conversations and interactions with friends, family members, and acquaintances who may not fully understand or empathize with the pain I am experiencing. One of the most valuable lessons I have learned on my journey as a suicide loss survivor is the importance of reaching out for help and support. Surrounding myself with a strong support network of understanding friends, family members, and mental health professionals has been crucial in helping me navigate the complex emotions and challenges that come with losing a loved one to suicide. Talking openly and honestly about my feelings, seeking therapy and counseling, and connecting with other suicide loss survivors has provided me with a sense of comfort, validation, and healing that I could not have found on my own. Finding resilience and hope in the face of tragedy has been a journey of self-discovery and growth for me. I have learned to honor the memory of my loved one by living my life with purpose and meaning, by cherishing the moments I have with those who are still here, and by striving to make a positive impact in the world around me. Through my experiences as a suicide loss survivor, I have discovered the strength and resilience within myself to overcome even the darkest of days, and to find light and hope in the midst of despair.

I vividly remember the day my grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a sunny afternoon, and my family had gathered for a regular Sunday lunch. My grandma, whom I had always seen as a strong and resilient woman, broke down in tears as she shared the news with us. In that moment, my world turned upside down, and I knew that this experience would shape who I am forever. Growing up, my grandma had always been a pillar of strength in my life. She was the one who taught me how to cook, how to sew, and most importantly, how to be kind and empathetic towards others. Seeing her battle with breast cancer was a harsh reality check for me. I had always viewed my grandma as invincible, and watching her struggle with her health made me realize that no one is immune to adversity. As my grandma underwent treatment for her cancer, I found myself taking on new responsibilities within my family. I became her caregiver, accompanying her to doctor's appointments, helping her with household chores, and providing emotional support during her chemotherapy sessions. This experience taught me the importance of resilience, patience, and compassion. I learned that even in the face of adversity, there is always room for kindness and generosity. Throughout my grandma's cancer journey, I also witnessed the incredible impact that medical professionals can have on patients and their families. The doctors and nurses who cared for my grandma were not just skilled healthcare providers, but also compassionate individuals who went above and beyond to ensure her comfort and well-being. Their dedication and professionalism inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare, with the hope of making a positive difference in the lives of others. My grandma's battle with breast cancer also made me more aware of the importance of early detection and prevention. I made a conscious effort to educate myself about breast cancer risk factors, symptoms, and screening guidelines. I encouraged my friends and family members to prioritize their health and get regular check-ups. This experience instilled in me a sense of responsibility towards my own well-being and the well-being of those around me. Despite the challenges my grandma faced during her cancer journey, there were also moments of joy and gratitude. I cherished the small moments we shared together – baking cookies, watching our favorite movies, and laughing until our stomachs hurt. These moments taught me to appreciate the beauty of life and the strength that can be found in moments of love and connection. Looking towards the future, I am hopeful that advancements in cancer research and treatment will continue to improve outcomes for patients like my grandma. I am eager to contribute to this field and be a part of the collective effort to eradicate cancer once and for all. My grandma's breast cancer journey has impacted who I am in profound ways, shaping my values, aspirations, and perspective on life. I am grateful for the lessons I have learned and the person I have become as a result of this experience.

All little brothers look up to their big sisters, and I was honored and stressed to be in that position. Although, I have always thought I’d be an only child, however, after the day my brother was born everything changed and I couldn’t have been any more grateful for his birth. It was September 21st, 2008, which was the very day I became an older sister I was so excited since I tripped over myself running to see my brother on the day he was born. I knew from then on I would have to change which was a turning point in my life. From that day on I was given new responsibilities and more expectations but I was genuinely sparked for being able to have a chance to care for a sibling. I never knew having a sibling had made more laughter, more learning opportunities learning from their mistakes, and most of all forever lasting friendship. I will always be so grateful that my brother is in my life and I wouldn’t be the same person I am today if I never had a brother. Since he taught me key skills like being a role model and being responsible for my actions. Even though we are only 2 years apart I still took care of him when needed since my parents were always working. I continued to work hard to be a good role model for him. Even though he constantly nagged me to play with him, I know for a fact that I annoyed him too. Nonetheless, I always love him on the good days and bad days. I would never trade the world for a world without my brother. He has shaped me into the person I am today. So was my inspiration and my dream is to be able to get the opportunity to take pre-nursing or nursing at Adelphi, it has been my dream school since I visited it there. I have taken a liking of nursing since I have a younger brother so I always cared for him when my parents were at work. I enjoyed caring for him so he has inspired me to choose this career path. Apart from that, I have learned lessons throughout my time doing cheer. The #1 rule of cheer is never to let a stunt fall to the ground and if it does, we are punished with push-ups. While this might be tedious, we learn for next time to always catch the flyer no matter what. Aside from this aspect, trust is another huge part of it. The bases must be stable to create a strong foundation for the stunt to hit, if you do not trust your bases then stunts will not be clean thus leading to falling flyers. This adds trust between my teammates and creates bonds and friendships that will last. Cheer is a meaningful part of who I am as a person because it is what I have been doing ever since elementary school. It has always reminded me of how much I have improved ever since I was 10 up until now. The journey is a reminder of how far I have come, from the last breath of a dance to the last stunt hitting clean. The development from doing simple stunts like thigh stands to now being able to do full libs without a brace is similar to the development from who I was to who I am today. I will always be grateful for the lessons that I have learned through cheer and will always cherish the memories made.

Being held up in the air and looking down upon hundreds of people is a feeling I can’t put into words. Cheer has grown up with me since elementary school, so I promised myself that I would continue in high school. As the years passed, I developed a deep connection and fell in love with the sport. I loved being able to spread positive school spirit and bring us closer as a community. Walking through the hallways in my uniform allows me to draw awareness of school events and bring forth patriot pride. I have invested so much time and effort into cheer because the feeling of being able to hit a stunt feels so ethereal. The sense of joy that stems from the hard work that has gone into constantly improving myself and my skills. As a flyer, being in the air can be quite daunting alongside the added pressure of messing up and causing embarrassment for myself and the team. However, once I focus on myself and squeeze my limbs in tight, that nervousness that was once inside vanishes. Through this process, I learned to not think about anything and just focus on one point. Apart from that, I have learned lessons throughout my time doing cheer. The #1 rule of cheer is never to let a stunt fall to the ground and if it does, we are punished with push-ups. I will always be grateful for the lessons that I have learned through cheer and will always cherish the memories made. Though I deeply improved in cheer this year, as the oldest sibling in my family, it has put more pressure on me to do great things for my younger brother to follow. Although it helped me to constantly improve myself, there were always obstacles to face, especially all the added stress to always be great even when you are hurting on the inside. I challenged myself to be athletic by playing many sports like cheerleading and dance. It helped shape my personality and it made me more social, funny, compassionate, and outgoing. I found myself hanging out with my friends more, and trying new things. I will forever be grateful for my hobbies that shaped the way I am today.

Growing up, mental health was always an important topic in my family. My mother was a therapist who worked with individuals struggling with various mental health issues, and my father was a social worker who dedicated his life to helping those in need. Their passion for helping others inspired me from a young age, and as I grew older, I felt a calling to do the same. Throughout my teenage years, I witnessed firsthand the impact that mental health struggles can have on individuals and their loved ones. I saw friends and family members battle with anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders, and I wanted to do whatever I could to help ease their pain. One particular experience stands out in my mind. A close friend of mine had been struggling with depression for months, and despite my efforts to support and uplift her, she seemed to be sinking deeper into despair. I knew I needed to do more to help her, so I encouraged her to seek professional help and even accompanied her to therapy sessions. I soon realized that my passion for helping others with their mental health was not just a passing phase – it was a calling that I needed to pursue further. That realization led me to choose a major in psychology in college, with the goal of becoming a therapist myself one day. As I delve deeper into my studies, I am learning about the various aspects of mental health and the different therapeutic approaches that can be used to support individuals in their healing journey. I have also started volunteering at a local crisis hotline, where I offer emotional support to individuals in crisis and assist them in finding resources for professional help. In the future, I plan to use my studies and my career as a therapist to emotionally support others around me. I believe that everyone deserves to have a safe space to process their emotions and struggles, and I want to be that safe space for those in need. Whether it is through one-on-one therapy sessions, group therapy, or even community outreach programs, I aim to use my knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on the mental health of others.

I remember the day like it was yesterday. My grandmother had always been a pillar of strength in our family, but when she was diagnosed with cardiac disease, our world was turned upside down. Suddenly, we were faced with a multitude of obstacles that we had never anticipated. As I reflect on those challenging times, I can't help but think about the impact that cardiac disease has had on both my grandmother and myself. My grandmother's battle with cardiac disease was not an easy one. She faced numerous obstacles, from daily medication regimens to dietary restrictions and frequent doctor's appointments. Watching her navigate these challenges with grace and resilience was both inspiring and heartbreaking. It was difficult to see her struggle with simple tasks that she once took for granted, such as climbing stairs or carrying groceries. Despite the obstacles she faced, my grandmother never lost her fighting spirit. She faced each day with determination and a smile on her face, refusing to let cardiac disease define her. For me, the obstacles of cardiac disease were not just limited to watching my grandmother's struggles. As a college student, I found myself grappling with the emotional toll of seeing a loved one battle a life-threatening condition. The fear of losing her, the uncertainty of what the future held, and the constant worry about her well-being weighed heavily on my mind. It was a constant juggling act between my responsibilities as a student and my role as a caregiver, trying to balance academics with the demands of supporting my grandmother through her illness. Despite the challenges we faced, the experience of dealing with cardiac disease has taught me valuable lessons that have shaped my perspective on life. It has made me appreciate the fragility of human health and the importance of cherishing each moment with loved ones. It has also given me a newfound sense of empathy and compassion towards those who are battling similar health conditions. The obstacles we overcame together have only strengthened our bond as a family, forging a connection that is unbreakable. In the field of cardiac disease, there have been numerous influential individuals who have made significant contributions towards understanding and treating this debilitating condition. From Dr. Michael DeBakey, known for his pioneering work in cardiovascular surgery, to Dr. Helen Taussig, a pioneer in the field of pediatric cardiology, these key figures have paved the way for advancements in the treatment of cardiac disease. Their dedication and groundbreaking research have saved countless lives and improved the quality of life for those living with cardiac conditions. Looking towards the future, I am hopeful for continued advancements in the field of cardiac disease. With ongoing research and innovation, there is potential for new treatment options, improved diagnostic tools, and better management strategies for those living with cardiac conditions. As medical technology continues to evolve, I am optimistic that the obstacles faced by individuals with cardiac disease will become more manageable, allowing them to live fuller and healthier lives. Overall, the obstacles we have had to overcome due to cardiac disease, both for my grandmother and myself, have been challenging but ultimately transformative. Through resilience, determination, and a strong support system, we have navigated the complexities of this condition and emerged stronger on the other side. While the road ahead may still be uncertain, I am grateful for the lessons learned, the bonds strengthened, and the hope for a brighter future in the field of cardiac disease.

I am a college-level student currently navigating my academic journey with a passion for nursing. My plans post-graduation involve attending Adelphi University to pursue a degree in nursing, a field that I am deeply passionate about. While my first language is English, I was additionally immersed in Chinese school as a young child, allowing me to become bilingual. Being bilingual has presented me with both challenges and benefits that have shaped my personal and academic experiences. Growing up, I had the unique opportunity to learn two languages simultaneously. This exposure to different languages and cultures has broadened my worldview and allowed me to communicate with a wider range of people. As a bilingual individual, I have been able to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds and bridge the gap between different communities. This ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages has been invaluable in various aspects of my life, opening up opportunities for me to engage with others on a deeper level. However, being bilingual has also presented challenges along the way. At times, I have struggled with balancing both languages and ensuring that my proficiency remains strong in both English and Chinese. It can be difficult to juggle linguistic demands, especially when switching between languages in different contexts. Additionally, there have been instances where I have faced stereotypes or misconceptions about bilingual individuals, which can be frustrating to navigate. Despite the challenges, the benefits of being bilingual far outweigh the obstacles. Research has shown that bilingual individuals often have enhanced cognitive abilities, such as improved problem-solving skills and multitasking capabilities. This mental flexibility and cognitive advantage can be particularly beneficial in academic settings, allowing bilingual students to excel in various subjects. Furthermore, being bilingual can also provide a competitive edge in the job market, as many employers value employees who can communicate effectively in multiple languages. Looking towards the future, I see being bilingual as a valuable asset that will continue to serve me well in my academic and professional endeavors. As I pursue a career in nursing, I am confident that my language skills will enable me to connect with patients from diverse backgrounds and provide culturally sensitive care. Additionally, in an increasingly globalized world, being bilingual can open up international opportunities and allow me to make a positive impact on a global scale. To sum up, my bilingualism has been an integral part of my identity and the direction of both my personal and academic life. While there have been challenges along the way, the benefits of being bilingual have enriched my life and provided me with unique opportunities for growth and development. As I look towards the future and embark on my nursing career, I am grateful for the gift of language diversity and the ability to connect with others in meaningful ways. Being bilingual is not just about speaking multiple languages, but about embracing different cultures and perspectives, ultimately enriching our shared human experience.

Recovery to me is about resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity. It is about finding the strength within oneself to keep moving forward, even when the odds seem stacked against you. As a college student, I have faced my fair share of obstacles – whether it be academic struggles, personal hardships, or mental health challenges. But through it all, I have learned that recovery is not about avoiding these challenges, but about facing them head-on and coming out stronger on the other side. Recovery is also about self-reflection and self-improvement. It is about acknowledging your flaws and weaknesses, and taking the necessary steps to address them. For me, recovery has been a journey of self-discovery, as I have learned to confront my insecurities and embrace my strengths. It has been a process of growth and transformation, as I have become more self-aware and confident in myself. But recovery is not just an individual journey – it is also about building connections and finding support in others. As a college student, I have found strength in the community around me – whether it be friends, family, or mentors. These relationships have been instrumental in my recovery journey, as they have provided me with the love, encouragement, and guidance that I needed to keep pushing forward.

As a young individual with a passion for landscaping, I have always been drawn to the beauty and tranquility that well-designed outdoor spaces can bring. Growing up, I spent countless hours in my family's garden, helping my parents plant flowers, trim bushes, and create a peaceful retreat where we could relax and enjoy nature. These early experiences instilled in me a deep appreciation for the art of landscaping and the impact it can have on people's lives. As I now embark on a career in the landscape industry, I am determined to make a difference by using my skills and creativity to transform outdoor spaces into beautiful and functional areas that bring joy and inspiration to others. I believe that landscaping goes beyond just creating visually appealing gardens; it is about enhancing the quality of life for individuals and communities by creating sustainable and environmentally-friendly outdoor spaces that serve both practical and aesthetic purposes. One of the key figures who have greatly influenced my passion for landscaping is Frederick Law Olmsted, often referred to as the father of landscape architecture. Olmsted's designs, such as Central Park in New York City and the Emerald Necklace in Boston, set the standard for creating urban green spaces that not only provide a respite from city life but also promote physical and mental well-being. His commitment to creating spaces that are accessible to all members of society and his emphasis on the importance of nature in urban environments have inspired me to pursue a career in landscaping with a focus on creating inclusive and sustainable outdoor spaces. In addition to Olmsted, another influential figure in the landscape industry is Piet Oudolf, a Dutch garden designer known for his naturalistic planting style and innovative approach to garden design. Oudolf's use of perennials and grasses to create landscapes that evolve throughout the seasons has revolutionized the way we think about gardens and has inspired a new generation of landscape designers to embrace sustainable and ecologically sound practices. His emphasis on creating gardens that are not only visually striking but also beneficial to the environment and wildlife aligns with my own values and goals as a landscape designer. As I look towards the future, I am excited about the potential for technology to revolutionize the landscape industry and to make sustainable practices more accessible and affordable. From green roofs and living walls to smart irrigation systems and native plantings, there are countless innovations that have the potential to transform the way we design and maintain outdoor spaces. I am committed to staying informed about the latest trends and developments in the field and to incorporating cutting-edge technologies and practices into my work to create landscapes that are not only beautiful but also environmentally conscious and sustainable.

Being on sports team and a student is not easy especially being in highschool as well. When you are trying to find yourself but also learn as well. While being given new responsibilities. This adds trust between my teammates and creates lasting bonds and friendships.

I was so excited and knew from then on I would have to change which was a turning point in my life. But I quite enjoy the campus and how fairly small the classes are so I will would be able to get more attention from my professors. I will be deeply grateful if I ever get a chance to attend my dream school. This would greatly help me get one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a nurse one day.

Values play a crucial role in shaping our beliefs, behaviors, and actions. They serve as guiding principles that influence our decisions and interactions with others. In the context of mental health, values play an essential role in informing the work we do with individuals who are struggling with mental health issues. Understanding our values and how they impact our practice can help us provide effective and ethical care to those in need. Historically, the field of mental health has evolved significantly, with a growing recognition of the importance of values in guiding therapeutic interventions. Early approaches to mental health treatment often focused on medical models that prioritized symptom management and medication. However, as our understanding of mental health has expanded, there has been a shift towards more holistic and person-centered approaches that prioritize the individual's values and beliefs. One key figure who has contributed to this shift is Carl Rogers, a humanistic psychologist known for his person-centered approach to therapy. Rogers emphasized the importance of empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness in therapeutic relationships. His work highlighted the significance of understanding and respecting the values of the individual seeking help, emphasizing the importance of creating a safe and nonjudgmental space for clients to explore their experiences and beliefs. Another influential figure in the field of mental health is Viktor Frankl, a psychiatrist who developed logotherapy, a form of existential therapy focused on finding meaning and purpose in life. Frankl believed that individuals could find resilience and strength by connecting with their values and finding purpose in their suffering. His work emphasized the importance of aligning one's actions with deeply held values as a way to promote psychological wellbeing. As mental health professionals, our values can inform the work we do with clients in a variety of ways. Firstly, our values can guide our approach to therapy and the interventions we use to support individuals in their recovery journey. By understanding our own values, we can tailor our therapeutic techniques to align with the needs and beliefs of our clients, promoting a sense of collaboration and empowerment in the therapeutic process. Secondly, our values can influence our interactions with clients and the level of empathy and compassion we bring to our work. By being aware of our own values and biases, we can strive to create a therapeutic environment that is inclusive, respectful, and culturally sensitive. This can help build trust and rapport with clients, leading to more effective therapeutic outcomes. Furthermore, our values can inform our ethical decision-making and professional boundaries in mental health practice. By reflecting on our values and how they impact our work, we can ensure that we uphold the highest standards of care and respect the autonomy and dignity of our clients. This can help prevent ethical missteps and promote a sense of integrity and accountability in our practice.

Losing a loved one is never easy, especially when that person holds a special place in your heart. For me, that person was my grandmother. She was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of everyone she met with her warmth, kindness, and wisdom. What I loved most about my grandma was her unconditional love and unwavering support. She was always there for me, no matter what, and her loss due to cancer has had a profound impact on me. My grandmother was a strong and resilient woman who faced many challenges in her life with grace and courage. She was the rock of our family, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her selflessness and compassion were truly inspiring, and I strive to live my life in the same way she did. One of the things I loved most about my grandma was her sense of humor. She had a contagious laugh and a witty sense of humor that could brighten even the darkest of days. She had a way of making everyone around her feel loved and cherished, and her loss has left a void in my heart that can never be filled. My grandma's battle with cancer was a difficult and painful journey for our family. Watching her suffer was heartbreaking, and I felt helpless knowing that there was nothing I could do to ease her pain. Despite the challenges she faced, my grandma remained positive and hopeful, always putting on a brave face for the sake of those around her. The loss of my grandmother has had a profound impact on me, both emotionally and spiritually. Her passing has made me appreciate the preciousness of life and the importance of cherishing the moments we have with our loved ones. I have learned to never take anything for granted and to always tell the people in my life how much I love them. In the aftermath of my grandma's death, I have found solace in the memories we shared and the valuable lessons she taught me. I have come to realize the true depth of her love and the impact she had on my life. Her loss has made me stronger and more resilient, and I carry her memory with me always. As I reflect on my grandma's life and the legacy she left behind, I am filled with gratitude for the time we had together. She was a shining example of love, strength, and resilience, and her memory will forever live on in my heart. Though her loss has left a void in my life, I am comforted by the knowledge that she is watching over me from above.
Vegan Teens Are The Future Scholarship
I became vegan about five years ago after watching a documentary that shed light on the animal agriculture industry and its impact on the environment, animals, and human health. The documentary led me to do further research on veganism, and I was shocked by the cruel practices involved in animal agriculture, the environmental degradation caused by the in dustry, and the health risks associated with consuming animal products. This newfound knowledge propelled me to make the switch to a vegan lifestyle. Veganism is important to me on multiple levels. First and foremost, I believe in the ethical treatment of animals. I cannot support an industry that exploits animals for profit, subjects them to inhumane living conditions, and ultimately takes their lives for human consumption. As an animal lover, I feel a sense of responsibility to advocate for the well-being of all living beings, not just those we consider pets or companions. Furthermore, veganism is crucial for environmental sustainability. Animal agriculture is a leading cause of deforestation, water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and species extinction. By choosing a plant-based diet, I am reducing my carbon footprint and minimizing my impact on the planet. I want to contribute to a healthier and more sustainable world for future generations. In terms of human health, veganism has numerous benefits. A plant-based diet has been shown to lower the risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and certain types of cancer. By eliminating animal products from my diet, I am prioritizing my health and well-being. I want to inspire others to make informed choices about their food consumption and take control of their health. My dreams and plans to grow the vegan movement in the future involve utilizing my education and experiences to educate others about the benefits of veganism. I am currently pursuing a degree in environmental science, which provides me with a strong foundation in sustainability and conservation. I plan to use my knowledge to raise awareness about the environmental impact of animal agriculture and promote plant-based solutions. In addition, I am actively involved in my local vegan community, organizing events, hosting cooking demos, and sharing resources to support others on their vegan journey. I believe that collective action is key to creating lasting change, and I am committed to building a supportive and inclusive vegan community. In terms of influential individuals in the vegan movement, there are several key figures who have made significant contributions to promoting veganism and animal rights. People like James Aspey, Earthling Ed, and T. Colin Campbell have used their platforms to advocate for a plant-based diet and raise awareness about the ethical, environmental, and health implications of animal agriculture. Their activism has inspired countless individuals to make the switch to veganism and become advocates for positive change. Despite the progress made in recent years, the vegan movement still faces challenges and obstacles. There is a lack of mainstream acceptance and understanding of veganism, with many people dismissing it as a fad or extreme lifestyle choice. Additionally, the animal agriculture industry wields significant power and influence, making it difficult to challenge the status quo. Moving forward, we must continue to advocate for animal rights, environmental sustainability, and public health to create a more compassionate and sustainable world for all beings.

She had a way of making everyone around her feel loved and cherished, and her loss has left a void in my heart that can never be filled. My grandma's battle with cancer was a difficult and painful journey for our family. Learner Math Lover Scholarship
I love math for so many reasons. Math has always been a subject that I have excelled in and enjoyed throughout my academic career. There is something so satisfying about solving a complex math problem and seeing the solution unfold right in front of you. Math is like a puzzle that forces you to think critically and logically, which I find incredibly stimulating and rewarding. One of the things I love most about math is its universality. Math is the language of the universe, and it is used in every aspect of life, from science and technology to art and music. It is a tool that allows us to understand the world around us, make sense of complex phenomena, and solve real-world problems. The beauty of math lies in its simplicity and elegance, as well as its ability to describe patterns and relationships in a precise and logical way. Math is also a subject that encourages creativity and innovation. There are often multiple ways to approach a math problem, and finding a unique or unexpected solution can be incredibly gratifying. Math challenges us to think outside the box, experiment with different strategies, and push the boundaries of our knowledge. It is a subject that rewards curiosity, persistence, and a willingness to take risks. Furthermore, math is a subject that builds critical thinking skills and cognitive abilities. Solving math problems requires analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. It teaches us to think logically, reason deductively, and make sound judgments based on evidence. These skills are not only valuable in the field of math but also in many other areas of life, such as decision-making, problem-solving, and communication.

I was so excited and knew from then on I would have to change which was a turning point in my life. But I quite enjoy the campus and how fairly small the classes are so I will would be able to get more attention from my professors. I will be deeply grateful if I ever get a chance to attend my dream school. This would greatly help me get one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a nurse one day. As the oldest and the only girl in my family, it has put more pressure on me to do great things for my younger brother to follow. It has helped me to constantly improve myself. But there were always obstacles in the way especially all the stress and pressure to always to great even when you are hurting on the inside. I challenged myself to be athletic and played a vast amount of sports like cheerleading, track, and dance. Conversely, in my sophomore year of high school, I was filled with self-doubt when it came to joining the track team. My schedule consisted of Advanced Placement and honors classes. I preserved and joined and my hard work paid off as I continued my junior year. Since I was a role model for my brother he decided to follow my steps and join sports as well. It may not be the same sports but it is the thought that counts.

It is important to keep a good social life and academic life the route I went was with athletics. While this might be tedious, we learn for next time to always catch the flyer no matter what. Aside from this aspect, there is another huge part of it: trust.
    Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship
As a college student, I am constantly amazed by the advancements in technology and how they have the power to make the world a better place. One technology that particularly inspires me is solar energy. The idea of harnessing the power of the sun to create clean and renewable energy is not only fascinating but also incredibly important for the future of our planet. Solar energy has the potential to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and decrease harmful emissions that contribute to climate change. By installing solar panels on homes, businesses, and other buildings, we can generate electricity in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. This not only helps to combat climate change but also reduces air pollution and improves public health. One of the most inspiring aspects of solar energy is its accessibility. In many parts of the world, particularly in developing countries, access to electricity is limited or nonexistent. Solar power provides a viable solution to this problem, allowing people to generate their own electricity and gain independence from unreliable and expensive sources of energy. Moreover, solar energy has the potential to create economic opportunities and stimulate job growth. As the demand for solar technology continues to rise, so does the need for skilled workers in installation, maintenance, and research and development. This not only boosts the economy but also helps to provide stable and well-paying jobs in a rapidly growing industry. The impact of solar energy goes beyond just environmental and economic benefits. It also has the power to empower communities and improve quality of life. By providing clean and reliable electricity, solar energy can enhance education, healthcare, and communication services in remote or underserved areas. It can also promote energy independence and resilience in the face of natural disasters or other emergencies. In conclusion, solar energy is a technology that truly inspires me with its potential to make the world a better place. It is a sustainable and accessible solution to the urgent challenges of climate change, energy insecurity, and economic inequality. By continuing to innovate and invest in solar technology, we can create a more sustainable and equitable future for generations to come.

As a member of an underrepresented minority population, my identity carries with it a unique set of experiences that have shaped and will continue to impact my path in life. In order to fully understand the significance of this aspect of my identity, it is essential to explore the historical context in which underrepresented minority populations have existed, the key figures who have paved the way for progress, and the current and future implications of belonging to such a group. Throughout history, underrepresented minority populations have faced discrimination, marginalization, and systemic barriers that have hindered their ability to fully participate in society. Whether it be due to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or any other marginalized identity, individuals who fall into these categories have often been relegated to the fringes of society and denied equal opportunities for success. This historical context is essential in understanding the challenges that individuals like myself continue to face in our pursuit of personal and professional fulfillment. Despite these challenges, there have been key figures throughout history who have fought tirelessly to uplift and empower underrepresented minority populations. From civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks to LGBTQ activists like Marsha P. Johnson and Harvey Milk, these individuals have paved the way for progress and inspired generations of marginalized individuals to strive for a better future. Their courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to justice have served as a beacon of hope for those of us who continue to face discrimination and adversity in our daily lives. Despite the progress that has been made in recent decades, underrepresented minority populations continue to face numerous challenges in various aspects of their lives. From disparities in access to education and healthcare to higher rates of unemployment and incarceration, the systemic barriers that have historically oppressed marginalized communities persist to this day. As a member of an underrepresented minority population, I am acutely aware of the ways in which my identity can impact my path in life, both positively and negatively. On the one hand, being a member of an underrepresented minority population has endowed me with a unique perspective and a deep sense of empathy for those who face similar challenges. This awareness has fueled my passion for social justice and equity, inspiring me to advocate for change and work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society. On the other hand, my identity has also exposed me to discrimination, microaggressions, and stereotypes that can impede my progress and limit my opportunities for success. Despite these obstacles, I am determined to overcome adversity and leverage my identity as a source of strength and resilience in navigating the complexities of the world around me. Looking towards the future, I am hopeful that continued efforts to dismantle systemic barriers and promote diversity and inclusion will create a more equitable and just society for all. By raising awareness, advocating for change, and amplifying the voices of underrepresented minority populations, we can work towards a more inclusive and equitable future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and succeed, regardless of their background or identity. As a member of an underrepresented minority population, I am committed to playing my part in this ongoing struggle for justice and equality, using my experiences and insights to drive positive change and inspire others to do the same.

Addiction can have a powerful impact on individuals, affecting every aspect of their lives and shaping their future. Personal experience with addiction can vary greatly from person to person, but the common thread is the struggle to break free from its grip and live a clean and sober life. In this essay, I will share my own journey with addiction, how it has affected and shaped my life, and what steps I am taking to break the cycle and strive towards a healthier, sober lifestyle. Addiction has had a profound impact on my life, affecting my relationships, my career, and my overall well-being. It began innocently enough, with casual drug use that quickly spiraled out of control. What started as a way to escape the pressures and stresses of everyday life soon became a full-blown addiction, consuming my thoughts and actions. The repercussions were swift and severe – I lost friendships, job opportunities, and even my own sense of self-worth. Addiction became the central focus of my life, pushing aside everything else that once held importance. I realized I needed help, but breaking free from addiction was no easy feat. It required a deep commitment to change, a willingness to confront uncomfortable truths about myself, and a strong support system to guide me through the process. I sought out therapy, attended support group meetings, and surrounded myself with people who understood my struggle. It was a long and difficult road, filled with setbacks and challenges, but I persevered. One of the key factors in my journey towards recovery was the realization that addiction is a complex and multifaceted issue that requires a holistic approach to address. It is not simply a matter of willpower or self-control, but a deep-seated psychological and physiological dependency that must be addressed through a combination of therapies and interventions. I learned to identify triggers and develop coping strategies to deal with cravings and temptations. I also worked on rebuilding my self-esteem and sense of purpose, finding healthier outlets for stress and negative emotions. While addiction has undoubtedly shaped my life in many negative ways, it has also provided me with a newfound sense of resilience and determination. I have learned to face my fears and confront my inner demons, emerging on the other side stronger and more self-aware. I am now committed to living a clean and sober life, free from the shackles of addiction. This means making conscious choices every day to prioritize my health and well-being, to nurture positive relationships, and to seek out new opportunities for growth and fulfillment.

As I get older more and more responsibilities are constantly added on. Life is a journey filled with growth and transformation. As we navigate through the ups and downs of life, we constantly evolve and change, becoming new versions of ourselves every year. This process of passing the baton to a new version of ourselves can be both challenging and rewarding, but ultimately it is about becoming the best possible version of ourselves with each passing year. In this essay, I will explore three promises I would like to make to a future version of myself, discuss how these promises will contribute to a better life, and explain how receiving a scholarship fits into this image. Additionally, I will elaborate on my financial circumstances and how this scholarship will help me achieve my higher education goals. One of the promises I would like to make to a future version of myself is to prioritize self-care and well-being. In today's fast-paced world, it is easy to neglect our physical and mental health in the pursuit of success. However, taking care of ourselves is essential for achieving long-term happiness and fulfillment. By committing to regular exercise, healthy eating habits, and mindfulness practices, I can ensure that my future self will have the energy and resilience to face life's challenges with grace and positivity. Another promise I would like to make is to nurture my relationships with loved ones. As we grow older, it is important to cultivate strong connections with family and friends who provide support, love, and companionship. By making an effort to spend quality time with those who matter most to me, I can create a strong support system that will be invaluable as I navigate through different stages of life. Building and maintaining meaningful relationships will contribute to a sense of belonging and security that will enrich my life as I age. Lastly, I would like to promise my future self that I will continue to learn and grow intellectually. Education is a lifelong journey, and staying curious and open-minded is essential for personal development. By committing to continuous learning, whether through formal education or self-study, I can expand my knowledge, broaden my perspective, and adapt to a rapidly changing world. Embracing new challenges and seeking out opportunities for growth will ensure that my future self remains intellectually sharp and engaged with the world around me. Receiving a scholarship plays a crucial role in fulfilling these promises to my future self. As a student with limited financial resources, the scholarship will provide me with the means to pursue higher education and achieve my academic goals. By alleviating the financial burden of tuition and other expenses, the scholarship will allow me to focus on my studies and extracurricular activities, which will contribute to my personal and intellectual growth. Additionally, the scholarship will give me the opportunity to engage in meaningful experiences and develop valuable skills that will prepare me for a successful and fulfilling future.

While this might be tedious, we learn for next time to always catch the flyer no matter what. Aside from this aspect, there is another huge part of it: trust. The bases must be stable to create a strong foundation for the stunt to hit, if you do not trust your bases then stunts will not be clean thus leading to falling flyers. This adds trust between my teammates for the creation of bonds and friendships that will last.

Although I am not a teen mom, I do have a younger brother who I see as my child. As all little brothers look up to their big sisters, and I was honored and stressed to be in that position. Although, I have always thought I’d be an only child, however, after the day my brother was born everything changed and I couldn’t have been any more grateful for his birth. It was September 21st, 2008, which was the very day I became an older sister I was so excited since I tripped over myself running to see my brother on the day he was born. I was so excited and knew from then on I would have to change which was a turning point in my life. But I quite enjoy the campus and how fairly small the classes are so I will would be able to get more attention from my professors. I will be deeply grateful if I ever get a chance to attend my dream school. This would greatly help me get one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a nurse one day.

Aside from just one hobby, I took a fondness for dancing and I would not know what I would do without it. Dance has transformed my mind as I used to be extremely shy and would not talk to people. Fortunately, this bond for dance that I have shared with others helped me get out of my comfort zone. I remember it was the day of the recital everyone was nervous and excited. I felt my heart beat fast and I got the jitters but once I stepped out onto the stage that nervousness inside dissipated. It helped shape my personality and it made me more social, funny, compassionate, and outgoing. I found myself hanging out with my friends more, and trying new things. LeBron has been vocal in speaking out against racial injustice, inequality, and other societal issues, using his influence to advocate for positive change. Despite his many accomplishments and accolades, the debate over whether LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time continues to divide fans and experts alike. While some argue that LeBron's impressive statistics, versatility, longevity, and impact on the game make him the GOAT (Greatest of All Time), others point to the achievements of players like Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, and Bill Russell as reasons why LeBron may not hold that title. Michael Jordan, in particular, is often cited as LeBron's greatest rival in the GOAT debate. Jordan's six NBA championships, scoring titles, MVP awards, and iconic moments have solidified his legacy as one of the greatest players in basketball history. His killer instinct, competitiveness, and unmatched success in the playoffs have made him a benchmark for greatness that LeBron is often compared to.
    Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
Billie Eilish has rapidly risen to fame in recent years, captivating audiences with her unique sound and deeply personal lyrics. The young singer-songwriter has released numerous hit songs, but three in particular stand out for their emotional resonance and raw authenticity. My top three Billie Eilish songs are "idontwannabeyouanymore", "bury a friend", and "everything i wanted". Each of these tracks not only showcases Eilish's exceptional talent as a musician but also delves into themes of identity, mental health, and the complexities of fame. "Idontwannabeyouanymore" is a hauntingly beautiful ballad that explores the struggle of maintaining one's sense of self in the face of external pressure and societal expectations. Eilish's soulful vocals and poignant lyrics convey a sense of vulnerability and introspection, striking a chord with listeners who may be grappling with similar feelings of self-doubt and insecurity. The song's minimalist production allows Eilish's voice to shine, creating an intimate and evocative listening experience that lingers long after the final notes fade away. "Bury a friend" takes a darker turn, with Eilish delving into the twisted and unsettling world of her nightmares. The track's eerie soundscapes and chilling lyrics paint a vivid picture of a mind plagued by fear and paranoia, drawing listeners into a nightmarish landscape of dread and uncertainty. Eilish's ability to convey such complex emotions in her music is a testament to her skill as a songwriter and performer, captivating audiences with her ability to tap into the darker corners of the human psyche. "Everything i wanted" is a bittersweet reflection on the highs and lows of fame, with Eilish opening up about her struggles with success and the toll it can take on one's mental health. The song's dreamy production and introspective lyrics strike a delicate balance between hope and despair, offering a nuanced look at the complexities of achieving one's dreams in an unforgiving industry. Eilish's candid vulnerability in "everything i wanted" resonates with fans who may be grappling with similar feelings of isolation and disillusionment, creating a sense of solidarity and connection through the power of music. Overall, these three songs by Billie Eilish resonate with me deeply due to their emotional depth, introspective lyrics, and haunting soundscapes. Eilish's ability to capture the nuances of human emotion and experience in her music is truly remarkable, drawing listeners in with her raw authenticity and unflinching honesty. As one of the most influential figures in the music industry today, Eilish continues to push boundaries and defy conventions, shaping the cultural landscape for a new generation of listeners.
    Audra Dominguez "Be Brave" Scholarship
Though I deeply improved in cheer this year, as the oldest sibling in my family, it has put more pressure on me to do great things for my younger brother to follow. Although it helped me to constantly improve myself, there were always obstacles to face, especially all the added stress, and I always had to be great even when I was hurting on the inside. I challenged myself to be athletic by playing many sports like cheerleading and dance. Dance has transformed my mind as I used to be extremely shy and would not talk to people.

I was so excited and knew from then on I would have to change which was a turning point in my life. Receiving the Curtis Holloway Memorial Scholarship will help the cost of Adelphi since it is a private school and is expensive compared to others. But I quite enjoy the campus and how fairly small the classes are so I will would be able to get more attention from my professors. I will be deeply grateful if I ever get a chance to attend my dream school. This would greatly help me get one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a nurse one day.

    Minecraft Forever Fan Scholarship
Minecraft is a game that has captured the hearts of millions of players around the world since its release in 2011. The game offers players limitless possibilities, allowing them to build and create in a virtual world that is only limited by their imagination. However, despite this freedom, many players find themselves drawn to a particular activity or goal that holds a special place in their hearts. In my experience, my favorite aspect of Minecraft is the sense of exploration and discovery that the game provides, and this is what resonates with me so deeply. The appeal of exploration in Minecraft can be traced back to the game's origins. Minecraft was created by Markus Persson, also known as Notch, who started developing the game in 2009 and released it to the public in 2011. Notch's vision for Minecraft was to create a game that allowed players to explore and create in a procedurally generated world made up of blocks. This vision has resonated with millions of players, who have spent countless hours exploring the vast and diverse landscapes of Minecraft. One of the key figures in the Minecraft community who has contributed to the exploration aspect of the game is YouTuber and streamer, DanTDM. DanTDM's popular Minecraft Let's Play series has introduced millions of players to the wonders of exploration in the game. Through his videos, DanTDM showcases the beauty and excitement of discovering new biomes, caves, and structures in Minecraft. His infectious enthusiasm for exploration has inspired many players to venture out into the unknown and uncover the secrets of the game. For me, the thrill of exploration in Minecraft lies in the sense of wonder and discovery that comes with exploring new landscapes and uncovering hidden treasures. The game's procedurally generated world ensures that no two experiences are ever the same, making each exploration journey unique and unpredictable. Whether I'm trekking through dense forests, crossing vast oceans, or delving into dark caves, there is always a sense of excitement in discovering what lies beyond the next hill or around the next corner. In addition to the joy of exploration, Minecraft's emphasis on creativity and building also plays a significant role in why the game resonates with me so deeply. The ability to shape and mold the world around me, whether it's through constructing elaborate structures, designing intricate redstone contraptions, or landscaping beautiful gardens, allows me to express my creativity in ways that I never thought possible. The satisfaction of seeing my creations come to life in the game is immensely rewarding and keeps me coming back for more. Despite the many positive aspects of Minecraft, there are also some negative aspects to consider. One of the criticisms of the game is the potential for addiction, as some players may find themselves spending excessive amounts of time playing and neglecting other aspects of their lives. Additionally, the nature of online multiplayer in Minecraft can sometimes lead to toxic behavior and conflicts among players. It is important for players to maintain a healthy balance and to be mindful of their interactions with others in the game. Looking towards the future, the possibilities for Minecraft seem limitless. With ongoing updates and expansions, the game continues to evolve and grow, offering new experiences and challenges for players to enjoy. Whether it's exploring new biomes, mastering new gameplay mechanics, or participating in community events, there is always something exciting on the horizon for Minecraft players to look forward to. The game's enduring popularity ensures that Minecraft will continue to hold a special place in the hearts of players for years to come.

    “The Office” Obsessed! Fan Scholarship
The Office" is a mockumentary-style sitcom that aired on NBC from 2005 to 2013. The show is based on the British series of the same name created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. It follows the daily lives of employees at the Dunder Mifflin paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and is known for its quirky characters, awkward humor, and satirical take on workplace dynamics. One of the standout aspects of "The Office" is its diverse cast of characters, each bringing their unique personalities and quirks to the show. From the bumbling but well-meaning boss Michael Scott to the sarcastic and deadpan Jim Halpert, viewers have a variety of characters to resonate with. For me, the character I resonate most with is Pam Beesly, the receptionist turned saleswoman who is known for her quiet and artistic nature. Pam's character arc throughout the series is one of the most compelling. She starts as a meek and unassuming receptionist, stuck in a dead-end job and engaged to a man who does not appreciate her. However, as the series progresses, we see Pam finding her voice, pursuing her passion for art, and eventually standing up for herself in both her personal and professional life. I resonate with Pam's journey of self-discovery and empowerment, as well as her quiet strength and resilience in the face of adversity. "The Office" has also played a significant role in shaping my sense of humor and perspective on workplace dynamics. The show uses humor to highlight the absurdities of office culture, from mundane tasks like birthday parties and team-building exercises to more serious issues like office politics and conflicts. Through its portrayal of dysfunctional relationships and awkward interactions, "The Office" has taught me to find humor in everyday situations and not take myself too seriously. Furthermore, the show has shed light on the complexities of workplace dynamics, showing the importance of communication, teamwork, and empathy in a professional setting. While the exaggerated and outrageous events that unfold at Dunder Mifflin may seem far-fetched, they serve as a mirror to real-life office politics and the challenges of working in a corporate environment. Watching the characters navigate through these challenges has given me a deeper understanding of the inner workings of organizations and the importance of building positive relationships with colleagues. In terms of influential individuals who have contributed to the field of workplace comedy and storytelling, the creators of "The Office," Greg Daniels and Michael Schur, stand out. Their unique vision and creative direction have helped shape the mockumentary genre and set a new standard for workplace comedies. The ensemble cast of "The Office," including actors like Steve Carell, John Krasinski, and Jenna Fischer, have also made significant contributions to the show's success through their impeccable performances and comedic timing. In conclusion, "The Office" has had a profound impact on my sense of humor and perspective on workplace dynamics. Through characters like Pam Beesly, the show has taught me the importance of self-discovery and empowerment, as well as the value of humor and empathy in professional settings. GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
As a young adult, navigating through the tumultuous waters of adolescence can be a daunting and overwhelming task. Olivia Rodrigo's song "GUTS" encapsulates the raw emotions and challenges that come with growing up, making it a poignant reflection of the teenage experience. One lyric from the song that resonates with my teenage journey is "And I've never been very good at keeping my mouth shut, but there's honestly a million things that I wish I could say". This lyric captures the essence of adolescence in its rawest form - the struggle to find one's voice, express emotions, and assert individuality in a world that often demands conformity. During the teenage years, individuals are often torn between the desire to speak their minds and the fear of judgment or rejection. The pressure to fit in and conform to societal expectations can be suffocating, leading to a constant internal battle between authenticity and self-censorship. Like many teenagers, I have experienced the frustration of holding back my true thoughts and feelings to avoid conflict or maintain a sense of harmony with those around me. The fear of speaking out and being vulnerable can feel paralyzing, leaving a sense of regret and unspoken words lingering within. This inner conflict can lead to feelings of isolation, loneliness, and a sense of not being truly understood by others. Moreover, the lyric also reflects the complexity of adolescence, where emotions run high and the search for identity and self-discovery is at its peak. The teenage years are a time of immense growth and self-exploration, where individuals are navigating through the challenges of peer pressure, academic stress, and personal relationships. The struggle to find one's voice amidst the chaos of adolescence is a universal theme that resonates with individuals from all walks of life. In addition to capturing the essence of adolescence, the lyric also sheds light on the challenges that come with it. The pressure to conform to societal norms and expectations can stifle individuality and creativity, leading to a sense of dissatisfaction and inner conflict. The fear of speaking out and being judged can hinder personal growth and self-expression, impeding one's ability to fully embrace their authentic self. Despite the challenges that come with adolescence, the lyric also highlights the importance of finding the courage to speak up and assert one's thoughts and feelings. By acknowledging the million things that we wish we could say, we are taking the first step towards reclaiming our voice and asserting our truth. Through open communication, self-expression, and vulnerability, we can break free from the constraints of conformity and embrace our authentic selves. In conclusion, Olivia Rodrigo's song "GUTS" resonates with the teenage experience by capturing the raw emotions, challenges, and complexities that come with adolescence. The lyrics discussed reflect the struggle to find one's voice, express emotions, and assert individuality in a world that often demands conformity. By acknowledging the million things we wish we could say, we are taking the first step towards self-discovery, personal growth, and embracing our authentic selves in the journey through adolescence.

    Love Island Fan Scholarship
Love Island is a reality TV show that has gained immense popularity in recent years, captivating audiences with its unique blend of romance, drama, and challenges. One of the key elements that have contributed to the success of Love Island is the challenges that the contestants have to partake in. These challenges not only add an element of fun and excitement to the show but also test the contestants' compatibility, communication skills, and teamwork. In this essay, I will propose a brand new Love Island Challenge and describe every aspect of this new challenge. The proposed challenge is called "Island Adventure Race". This challenge is inspired by adventure races like Tough Mudder and The Amazing Race, where contestants have to navigate through various obstacles and complete tasks to reach the finish line. In the "Island Adventure Race", contestants will be divided into teams of two, with each team consisting of one male and one female contestant. The challenge will take place on a remote island with dense forests, rugged terrains, and crystal-clear waters. The challenge will begin with teams having to swim across a choppy sea to reach the island. Once on the island, teams will have to navigate through a series of obstacles such as climbing walls, crawling through mud pits, and crossing rope bridges. Along the way, teams will have to complete tasks that test their physical abilities, mental acuity, and communication skills. These tasks can include solving puzzles, building shelters, and rescuing stranded "survivors" on the island. To add a romantic twist to the challenge, there will be "couples" tasks where teams have to work together to overcome obstacles. For example, one task could be to carry a giant heart-shaped puzzle piece through an obstacle course without dropping it, symbolizing the importance of communication and trust in a relationship. The team that reaches the finish line first will be declared the winner of the "Island Adventure Race" challenge. They will be rewarded with a romantic dinner under the stars, complete with champagne, candles, and live music. The losing team will have to sleep outside on the beach with only a bonfire to keep them warm. The "Island Adventure Race" challenge will not only test the contestants' physical abilities and teamwork but also their emotions and relationships. The intense nature of the challenge will push contestants to their limits and reveal their true colors. It will create drama, tension, and excitement, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. In conclusion, the "Island Adventure Race" challenge is a brand new and exciting addition to the Love Island series. It brings a fresh and thrilling element to the show, while also emphasizing the importance of communication, trust, and teamwork in relationships. This challenge has the potential to become a fan favorite and a memorable moment in the history of Love Island. Though I deeply improved in cheer this year, as the oldest sibling in my family, it has put more pressure on me to do great things for my younger brother to follow. Although it helped me constantly improve myself, there were always obstacles to face, especially all the added stress, and I always had to be great even when I was hurting. I challenged myself to be athletic by playing many sports like cheerleading and dance. It helped shape my personality and it made me more social and outgoing. I found myself hanging out with my friends more, and trying new things. I will forever be grateful for my hobbies that shaped the way I am today. All little brothers look up to their big sisters, and I was honored and stressed to be in that position. Although, I have always thought I’d be an only child, however, after the day my brother was born everything changed and I couldn’t have been any more grateful. It was September 21st, 2008, which was the very day I became an older sister I was so excited since I tripped over myself running to see my brother on the day he was born. I was so excited and knew from then on I would have to change which was a turning point in my life. So was my inspiration and my dream is to be able to get the opportunity to take nursing at Adelphi, it has been my dream school since I visited it there. I have taken a liking of nursing since I have a younger brother so I always cared for him when my parents were at work. I enjoyed caring for him so he has inspired me to choose this career path. While this might be tedious, we learn for next time to always catch the flyer no matter what. Aside from this aspect, there is another huge part of it:trust. The bases must be stable to create a strong foundation for the stunt to hit, if you do not trust your bases then stunts will not be clean thus leading to falling flyers. This adds trust between my teammates for the creation of bonds and friendships that will last. Though I deeply improved in cheer this year, as the oldest sibling in my family, it has put more pressure on me to do great things for my younger brother to follow. Although it helped me constantly improve myself, there were always obstacles to face, especially all the added stress, and I always had to be great even when I was hurting. I challenged myself to be athletic by playing many sports like cheerleading and dance It helped shape my personality and it made me more socialk and outgoing. I found myself hanging out with my friends more, and trying new things. I will forever be grateful for my hobbies that shaped the way I am today.

I am pursuing a degree in the mental health field because I have always been passionate about helping others improve their well-being and navigate life's challenges. Mental health is a crucial aspect of overall health and significantly affects a person's quality of life. By gaining knowledge and skills in this field, I hope to make a positive impact on individuals struggling with mental health issues and contribute to creating a society that is more understanding and supportive of mental health concerns. The importance of mental health has been recognized throughout history, although the field of mental health has evolved significantly over time. In the past, mental health was often stigmatized, and individuals with mental illnesses were frequently misunderstood and mistreated. However, with advancements in psychology, psychiatry, and other related disciplines, there has been a greater understanding of mental health issues and a shift towards providing more holistic and person-centered care. Key figures in the history of mental health include Sigmund Freud, who is considered the father of psychoanalysis. Freud's work revolutionized the way we understand the human mind and behavior, and his theories have had a profound impact on the field of mental health. Other influential individuals include Carl Rogers, who developed the person-centered approach to therapy, and Aaron Beck, who pioneered cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). In addition to these key figures, many other professionals have made significant contributions to the field of mental health. Researchers, clinicians, and advocates have all played a role in advancing our understanding of mental health and developing effective treatments and interventions. By studying the work of these individuals and learning from their experiences, I hope to be able to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. As I pursue a degree in the mental health field, I plan to focus on working with underserved populations and marginalized communities. These groups often face unique challenges when it comes to accessing mental health care, and I believe that everyone deserves to have access to quality mental health services. By advocating for increased resources and support for these populations, I hope to help reduce disparities in mental health outcomes and promote overall well-being. I also plan to incorporate a holistic approach to mental health care, focusing not only on individual symptoms and diagnoses but also on factors such as social support, environment, and lifestyle. By taking a comprehensive view of mental health, I hope to be able to address the underlying causes of mental health issues and provide more effective and sustainable solutions for my clients. In conclusion, pursuing a degree in the mental health field is a deeply personal and meaningful decision for me. I am driven by a passion for helping others and a commitment to making a positive impact on individuals struggling with mental health issues. By learning from the history of the field, studying the work of influential figures, and focusing on underserved populations, I hope to be able to contribute to a more compassionate and inclusive society that values mental health and well-being.

I was so excited and knew from then on I would have to change which was a turning point in my life. Receiving Barnaby-Murphy Scholarship will help the cost of Adelphi since it is a private school and is expensive compared to others. I hope to make an impact in saving lives when I complete my 4 years there. But I quite enjoy the campus and how fairly small the classes are so I will would be able to get more attention from my professors. I will be deeply grateful if I ever get a chance to attend my dream school. This would greatly help me get one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a nurse one day.

The healthcare system is a crucial aspect of any society as it determines the health and well-being of its citizens. The United States, in particular, has a complex healthcare system that has been the subject of much debate and controversy. If I could change one thing about our current healthcare system, I would focus on ensuring universal access to healthcare for all individuals. Historically, the United States has seen various attempts to reform its healthcare system. One of the most significant changes was the introduction of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965, which provided healthcare coverage to the elderly, low-income individuals, and people with disabilities. However, despite these efforts, millions of Americans still lack access to affordable healthcare. One of the key figures in the push for universal healthcare coverage is former President Barack Obama. His administration passed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010, which aimed to expand access to healthcare for millions of Americans. While the ACA made significant strides in reducing the number of uninsured individuals, it still fell short of providing universal coverage. The impact of ensuring universal access to healthcare would be immense. By guaranteeing healthcare coverage for all individuals, we would see a significant improvement in public health outcomes. People would be able to seek preventive care, manage chronic conditions, and receive timely treatment for illnesses. This, in turn, would lead to a healthier population and lower healthcare costs in the long run. One influential individual who has contributed to the field of universal healthcare coverage is Senator Bernie Sanders. He has been a vocal advocate for a single-payer healthcare system, where the government would provide healthcare coverage to all citizens. Sanders has proposed a Medicare for All plan, which would eliminate private insurance and establish a universal healthcare system funded by the government. Proponents of universal healthcare argue that it is a fundamental human right and that no one should be denied access to medical care due to financial constraints. They believe that a single-payer system would streamline administrative costs, negotiate lower prices with providers, and ensure that everyone has equal access to healthcare services. However, opponents of universal healthcare raise concerns about the cost of such a system and the potential for government inefficiency and bureaucracy. They argue that a government-run healthcare system would lead to long wait times, limited choice of providers, and reduced quality of care. They also fear that higher taxes would be necessary to fund such a system, placing a burden on taxpayers. Despite the challenges and opposition, the movement towards universal healthcare coverage continues to gain momentum. With the growing awareness of healthcare disparities and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the healthcare system, more people are calling for transformative changes to ensure that everyone has access to quality healthcare. In conclusion, ensuring universal access to healthcare is a necessary change that would benefit society as a whole. By guaranteeing healthcare coverage for all individuals, we can improve public health outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, and create a more equitable healthcare system. While there are challenges and concerns associated with implementing universal healthcare, the potential benefits far outweigh the drawbacks. It is time for our healthcare system to prioritize the health and well-being of all individuals, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
