Hello, my name is Anyah Clayton and I'm pursuing a major in chemical engineering at Arizona State University. It's a challenging and exciting journey for me, especially as a female student in a field traditionally dominated by men. My academic path, marked by a 3.5 GPA, reflects my dedication and hard work. Alongside my studies, I find joy and balance through my favorite hobbies: conducting experiments, dancing, creating art, and making pottery. These activities not only make my life more enjoyable but also help me grow in my engineering studies. Chemical engineering combines chemistry and engineering to solve problems and create new solutions. Since I was young, I've been fascinated by how different substances interact with each other. This curiosity led me to choose chemical engineering as my major. At ASU, I’m learning how to apply these principles in practical ways, from designing chemical processes to solving complex problems. Maintaining a 3.5 GPA shows that I am committed to my studies and willing to put in the effort to understand and excel in this challenging field. I love the hands-on aspect of science, where I can mix chemicals and observe their reactions. This hobby helps me understand the theories I learn in class more deeply and apply them in real-life situations. Every experiment I conduct teaches me something new and fuels my passion for chemical engineering. Dance is another important part of my life. When I dance, I focus on the rhythm, coordination, and expression. Dance requires precision and practice. Through dance, I’ve learned work hard, stay focused, and be creative. Art and pottery are also significant to me. Creating art allows me to express myself in ways that are different not just by words but visually. Whether I’m drawing, painting, or sculpting pottery, I explore creativity and imagination. Pottery, in particular, involves shaping clay and paying attention to details. This hobby gives me a break from the world making me stress free and allows me to have a more open and creative mind. Balancing these hobbies with my engineering studies also teaches me valuable life skills. Time management is crucial when juggling academic responsibilities with personal interests. By making time for experiments, dance, art, and pottery, I’ve learned to prioritize tasks and manage my schedule effectively. This balance helps me stay organized and prevents burnout, ensuring that I remain focused and productive both in and out of the classroom. As a female majoring in chemical engineering at ASU, I am aware of the challenges and opportunities that come with this choice. My 3.5 GPA is a testament to my commitment and determination to succeed in a field that requires both technical skills and creative thinking. My hobbies play a crucial role in shaping who I am and how I approach my studies. They not only provide joy and relaxation but also complement my academic work by fostering creativity, precision, and problem-solving abilities.
