    Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
They say the youth are the hope of the future, but what happens to those with great potential and promise whose lives end too short like Kalia D. Davis? Unfortunately, that is the reality for far too many. Reading about the passion and ambition Kaila exhibited made me contemplate how she could've made a beautiful difference in the world, then I realized, her story shouldn't end there. The light and drive that Kaila had, along with so many others, will forever be carried on in the new generation to make the world a better place. Like Kaila, I also ran Track, and every jump and stride correlated to the focus and resilience that drives my ambitions for success in academic, career, and personal endeavors. Kaila's seemingly constant determination in both physical and mental improvement is utterly inspirational, and something I relate to and strive to reach. To see a goal so tangible and truly believe in oneself the way she did is something every individual on this beautiful yet harsh planet should follow as she did. Similar in age to Kaila, my life is about to change drastically, and in front of me are countless paths I could take to make a difference in the world as well as in myself. Though the future is unforeseeable, I am profoundly driven by the desire to unlock the mysteries of the human mind and to make a lasting impact on mental health. The brain’s complexity is both awe-inspiring and humbling, and I am motivated to delve into its depths to uncover how we think, feel, and heal. By combining cutting-edge neuroscience with compassionate clinical practice, I hope to illuminate new paths to understanding and recovery, empowering individuals to lead fuller, healthier lives. Just as Kaila was dedicated to her studies and to her way of making a difference in the world, I believe my ambition too could do justice to the efforts and difference she made and would've made. I was also moved by Kaila's story not only of her drive in academics but also in social justice and activism. Being a minority in a predominantly white town created my passion for voicing out injustices that were the norm and my attempts to make a difference for the upcoming generation of POCs that could be affected by casual racism. I joined Zoom calls for local women of color to come together and discuss issues that were occurring and how to resolve them. Regardless of what the future has in store for me, I will never cease the activism wherever I go in honor of everyone who feels as though they are not heard or seen the way Kaila would've wanted. Receiving this scholarship would be a tremendous honor and a powerful testament to Kalia D. Davis’s enduring legacy. Her dedication, excellence, and kindness are qualities I deeply admire and strive to embody in my own life. This scholarship would provide essential support for my educational pursuits, allowing me to fully immerse myself in my studies and extracurricular activities without the weight of financial stress. It would enable me to pursue my dreams with the same relentless drive and enthusiasm that Kalia exemplified. To honor her life, I am committed to reflecting her values in my own journey—pursuing academic and personal excellence, supporting others with compassion, and approaching every challenge with resilience and joy. By carrying forward her legacy through my actions and achievements, I hope to make a meaningful impact, just as Kalia did, and to celebrate her memory by living with the same passion and purpose she showed every day.
    Ken Landry Memorial Scholarship
My four years in track and field have been more than just a journey of physical endurance and skill; they've had a profound influence on my personal growth and how I engage with the world as a person of color. Through the challenges and triumphs on the track, I’ve gained insights that extend well beyond athletic performance, shaping my identity and my commitment to making a positive impact. Track and field taught me the importance of hard work, perseverance, and self-belief. As an athlete of color, I often faced the dual challenge of navigating the demanding physical aspects of the sport while also addressing the cultural and societal expectations placed on me. This experience deepened my resilience and equipped me with a strong sense of self that I carry into every facet of my life. It has reinforced the idea that success is not just about individual achievement but also about breaking barriers and setting an example for others who might face similar challenges. Although my experience in Track and Field brought about introspection and progression, the sport was rigorous and demanding. Being a minority in a predominantly white town and a predominantly white high school, I experienced heavy casual racism from teammates and my coaches. I spoke out against disrespect and I grew stronger physically and mentally. Track and field taught me a valuable lesson about the realities of disrespect yet about the power that comes with being a person of color in the reality that not everyone will have the same respect. The lessons I received from being an athlete not only guided me to navigate our world, but also to navigate internally and how to carry myself the same way I carry myself when I beat a personal record and complete a hard workout, or speak up against injustice. Reading about the fantastic coach, Ken Landry, makes me hopeful that his dedication has inspired a new generation for student-athletes in the future having coaches who bring diverse perspectives, foster representation, and provide a wealth of knowledge and mentorship that can guide athletes through both their athletic and personal development. As well as help them navigate challenges with insight and support rooted in shared experiences and deep understanding as Ken once did. In my role as an experienced athlete, I see the impact of my athletic journey in the way I inspire and support others. By demonstrating that dedication and hard work can overcome obstacles, I aim to motivate those who may feel marginalized or doubted. I’m passionate about creating spaces where everyone feels valued and empowered, particularly in environments where diversity is not always the norm. I hope to use my experiences to advocate for inclusivity and to mentor young athletes and peers, helping them to see their own potential and to push through their own challenges. The discipline and teamwork learned through track and field have also enhanced my ability to collaborate and lead effectively. I understand firsthand the importance of lifting others up and celebrating their successes, and I strive to embody these principles in my interactions. My goal is to foster a supportive environment where diverse voices are heard and where everyone has the opportunity to shine. Ultimately, my athletic journey has shaped me into a person who is not only resilient and driven but also deeply committed to making a meaningful impact. I am dedicated to using my experiences to inspire others, advocate for inclusivity, and create positive change, both within and beyond the realm of athletics

Living in various countries and witnessing social class structure vary throughout cultures, I have become fascinated with how the human mind works with cultural influence. As a Mexican woman forming my identity with the impact of the five countries that I was raised in, has had me questioning how cultural adjustment, social support systems, exposure to diversity, economic factors, and identity and belonging have influenced my upcoming and future and thus how an individuals development affects the world as a whole and what to do to create a world where the future is safe and equal to all from the inside to out. I have become passionate about psychology, neuroscience, and cultural management. I want to understand the complexities of the human mind help others overcome mental health challenges and extend my cultural awareness. By pursuing a career in clinical psychology or neuroscience, I hope to make a positive impact by providing support, and guidance, and contributing to the advancement of mental health research and treatment worldwide. Though the future is unforeseeable, I wish to lead to groundbreaking discoveries that expand the boundaries of human knowledge and pave the way for innovative therapies, assistive technologies, or even a deeper understanding of consciousness. The possibilities in this beautiful and limitless world are endless, but with my passion, empathy, and experiences, I feel as though I am poised to make the world a better place. The support of this scholarship would allow me to focus on my studies and research, relieve stress from tuition and expenses, and permit me to excel academically and dive deep into my passions. This scholarship not only alleviates the financial burden on my parents but also recognizes their unwavering dedication and the impact they've had on my academic journey. Awarding me this scholarship would not only be an investment in my future but also a way to honor my parents' hard work and sacrifices. I am deserving of a scholarship due to the consistent effort and determination I have demonstrated throughout my academic journey. From countless hours spent studying and completing assignments to actively participating in extracurricular activities. I have consistently strived to excel in all aspects of my education. This scholarship would not only recognize my hard work but also provide me with the opportunity to continue pursuing my goals and making a positive impact in my academic and future career endeavors. The opportunity this scholarship provides could be transformative for my future as a clinical psychologist or neurologist globally, with this kind of boost, I have no doubts I'd come closer to making an incredible impact on the world.

    1. In my Junior year of high school, the garden in my mind was plagued by darkness making the whole world feel as if it were fast-paced and I was stuck in slow motion, I had fallen into a mindset that craved self-isolation and self-hatred. Yet because of the comfort I found in the desolate places in my mind, I experienced everything with such empathy and gratitude that I had never felt before. As flowers began to bloom, forests painted with green, and gentle and quiet deer would stare at me attentively, I realized that just like the forest and the moon we must go through phases of emptiness to feel full again. I realized that if I could feel such intense anguish, I could feel intensity in love and peace. It has been officially a year since I found my way to the light and my journey with mental health has been like navigating a vast, uncharted ocean, where each wave and current has deeply shaped my aspirations, connections, and perceptions. In the quiet depth of my struggles, I've found a profound empathy, a desire to reach out and uplift others who face similar storms. I can apply this sensibility as it has become the cornerstone of my goals, steering me toward paths where I can contribute to advancing mental health treatments, advocate for mental health, foster understanding, and create spaces of healing and support. It is through these goals that I hope to turn my experiences into a beacon for others, guiding them to shores of hope and resilience. Once fragile vessels adrift in turbulent waters, relationships have transformed into anchors of strength and solace. My vulnerabilities have deepened my connections, allowing me to cherish the authentic, raw beauty of human bonds. Understanding the world through the lens of my mental health journey has been both a blessing and a revelation. It has unveiled the unseen battles that countless souls fight daily, which I can apply when approaching life with greater kindness, patience, and gratitude. The world, in its infinite complexity, now appears as a tapestry of intertwined stories, each colored by joy and sorrow, triumph and defeat. This awareness has instilled in me a profound respect for the resilience of the human spirit and a commitment to nurturing compassion wherever I go. In essence, my experience with mental health has not only shaped my journey but has also sculpted the very essence of who I am and who I aspire to be. It has taught me that within the depth of our struggles lie the seeds of our greatest strength, and it is through these trials that we discover the true depth of our humanity.

Right before I graduated high school, I received a letter that I wrote when I was twelve and I haven't stopped thinking about this one sentence I wrote to myself, " I hope you've become the person I know you are capable of becoming". I can proudly say that I am that woman today, yet, now entering a new beginning, I know that self-discovery is a never-ending nonlinear journey, and now I must set the stepping stones for me in the future to reach it. Personal development is not just a journey; it's the essence of living a fulfilling and purposeful life. For me, it represents the relentless pursuit of growth, wisdom, and self-discovery—a journey that transcends mere achievements to encompass profound transformation and mastery of oneself. At the heart of why personal development is crucial lies the belief that we are all capable of incredible evolution. It's about expanding the boundaries of our potential, pushing past limitations, and embracing the challenges that pave the way to greatness. Each step forward in personal development brings us closer to the best version of ourselves—a version characterized by resilience, wisdom, and a deep sense of purpose. I am committed to this journey because I believe in the power of continuous improvement. It's not just about acquiring knowledge or skills, but about refining our character, cultivating virtues like patience, compassion, and determination. These qualities not only enrich our lives but also positively impact those around us, creating a ripple effect of inspiration and empowerment. To become the best version of myself, I approach personal development with dedication and intentionality. I set ambitious goals that stretch my capabilities and foster growth in areas that matter most to me—whether it's professional achievement, personal relationships, or spiritual fulfillment. I embrace challenges as opportunities for learning and refinement, viewing setbacks as stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks. Self-reflection is a cornerstone of my journey. I carve out moments to introspect, to understand my motivations, strengths, and areas needing improvement. This introspection fuels my evolution, guiding me towards aligned actions and meaningful decisions. Moreover, I prioritize self-care as an integral part of personal development. Nurturing my physical, mental, and emotional well-being ensures that I have the energy and resilience to pursue my goals with vigor and enthusiasm. I cultivate habits that support my growth, from regular exercise and healthy eating to mindfulness practices and continuous learning. Furthermore, I seek wisdom from mentors and peers, drawing inspiration from their experiences and insights. Their guidance enriches my perspective and accelerates my growth, reminding me that personal development is also about fostering meaningful connections and community. Personal development is my compass, guiding me towards a life of purpose and fulfillment. It's a commitment to becoming the best version of myself—an ongoing journey fueled by passion, perseverance, and a deep-seated belief in the limitless potential within each of us. As I continue on this path, I am not only transforming myself but also contributing positively to the world around me, one step at a time.

In the tapestry of life, adversity weaves its intricate threads, shaping us into resilient beings of strength and courage. I, too, have encountered the formidable embrace of adversity, a moment where the shadows seemed to stretch endlessly. There was a time when uncertainty clouded my path when challenges loomed large and doubts whispered relentlessly. Immigrating from South America to a prominently white town, I experienced challenges of fitting in and ignorant comments from students who lacked respect. I had tried to mold myself in a way where I hid who I was, eventually losing sight of myself. With forced quarantine and isolation during COVID-19, I invested in deep introspection. I picked the pieces that I had cut to rediscover myself and in that crucible of adversity, I discovered the depths of my resilience. I learned to draw strength from within, to forge ahead with unwavering determination despite the tempest raging around me. Adversity, though daunting, became my silent teacher. It taught me patience in the face of setbacks, resilience in moments of despair, and the profound truth that growth often sprouts from adversity's fertile ground. It sculpted my character, chiseling away the superfluous to reveal the core of my fortitude and perseverance. In the face of adversity, I discovered depths of courage I didn’t know existed within me. It pushed me beyond comfort zones, unveiling hidden reservoirs of determination and grit. Each trial became a stepping stone, propelling me closer to understanding my own capabilities and inner fortitude. Moreover, adversity humbled me, fostering empathy and compassion for others facing their own battles. It taught me to appreciate the silver linings amidst the clouds, to find hope in the darkest of moments, and to embrace resilience as a guiding light through life’s unpredictable journey. Adversity has shaped me into a person who embraces challenges as opportunities for growth. It taught me to value perseverance over perfection, and to see setbacks as lessons in disguise. Through its refining fire, I’ve emerged stronger, more compassionate, and deeply grateful for the resilience that adversity has cultivated within me. To those now navigating their own labyrinth of adversity, I would offer a beacon of wisdom: embrace the challenge before you as a catalyst for transformation. Know that within you lies an indomitable spirit, capable of weathering even the fiercest storms. Lean on your inner resilience, cultivate patience amidst uncertainty, and trust in the journey unfolding. Seek solace in the support of loved ones and allies who stand steadfast by your side. Remember, adversity is not a sign of weakness but a testament to your strength. Let it shape you into a beacon of hope, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. As the sun rises anew after the darkest of nights, so too shall you emerge from adversity's embrace, stronger, wiser, and more compassionate. It is our scars that illuminate the beauty of our journey, each thread a testament to the triumph of the human spirit over adversity's fleeting shadows.

The social justice issues that resonate deeply with me are not just matters of policy or statistics; they are about human dignity, fairness, and the pursuit of a better world for all. Racial justice stands at the forefront, where the fight against systemic racism is a moral imperative. No one should face discrimination or injustice based on the color of their skin, and as an immigrant minority living in a predominantly white town, I understand the struggles that arise from being judged on who I am. It is crucial to get involved because every voice, every action, contributes to dismantling centuries-old barriers and paving the way for true equality and inclusion. Gender equality is another cornerstone of my advocacy. I believe in a world where individuals are judged by their abilities and character, not by their gender. Everyone should have the opportunity to pursue their dreams without limitations imposed by stereotypes or discrimination. By getting involved, we challenge outdated norms and empower individuals to live authentically and freely. Environmental justice is inseparable from social justice. We have a responsibility to protect our planet and ensure that the burdens of environmental degradation do not fall disproportionately on marginalized communities. Getting involved means advocating for sustainable practices and policies that prioritize the health and well-being of all people, present and future. Income inequality underscores the need for economic justice. It is unacceptable that basic necessities like healthcare, education, and housing are out of reach for so many. By advocating for fair wages, social safety nets, and policies that lift people out of poverty, we can create a society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Lastly, LGBTQ+ rights are fundamental human rights. Love is love, and everyone deserves to live with dignity and respect, free from discrimination and violence. By standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, we create communities where diversity is celebrated and everyone can live openly and authentically. Getting involved in social justice issues is crucial because it's about standing up for what's right and ensuring that every individual is treated with dignity and fairness. It's about recognizing that we all have a role to play in creating a world where justice and equality are not just ideals, but realities. When we get involved in social justice, we become agents of change. We have the power to challenge injustices, dismantle systemic barriers, and advocate for policies that promote inclusivity and opportunity for all. Our actions ripple outward, inspiring others to join in the fight for a more just society. Getting involved in social justice issues is a way to amplify voices that are often marginalized or silenced. It's about listening to those who are directly affected by inequality and discrimination, and standing in solidarity with them. By doing so, we create spaces where everyone's experiences and perspectives are valued and respected. Moreover, getting involved in social justice issues is a commitment to the future. It's about leaving a legacy of progress and equity for generations to come. It's about ensuring that our children and grandchildren inherit a world where they can thrive regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background. Ultimately, getting involved in social justice issues is a moral imperative. It's about upholding human rights, promoting compassion and empathy, and building bridges across divides. It's about making our communities and our world more just, more equitable, and more compassionate places for all people.

What always manages to silence internal turmoil and bring light to the darkest corners of my mind is art. Art is the heartbeat of humanity, a sacred dance of creativity that transcends time and space. It captures the essence of our dreams, our fears, and our joys, weaving them into a tapestry that tells the story of our shared existence. In myriad forms, art invites us to see the world through new eyes, to connect on a profound emotional level, and most importantly to delve deeper into the unknown of our minds. Through my art, I plan to weave a tapestry of inspiration and connection that resonates deeply within the hearts of those who encounter it. Each brushstroke and each color chosen is a deliberate act of expression, a dialogue between my inner world and the shared human experience. I aim to create works that tell stories of resilience, hope, and the beauty found in diversity. My art will celebrate the strength found in vulnerability, depicting the quiet triumphs and everyday struggles that define our existence. Moreover, I intend to use my art as a platform for advocacy and awareness. As an illustration of raising awareness through my art, my AP portfolio focused on the addiction and consumption of technology yet our disconnect from nature and the healing properties humans can gain from it. Through thoughtful and impactful pieces, I intend to highlight social and environmental issues that demand our attention. My goal is to spark conversations and inspire action, using the universal language of art to break down barriers and unite people in the pursuit of positive change. Ultimately, my vision is for my art to catalyze reflection, dialogue, and transformation. In a world where words often fail, art speaks with an eloquence that can soothe, heal, and empower which has created a potential interest in my pursuit of a degree in Art Therapy. By sharing my creative journey, I hope to touch lives, uplift spirits, and contribute to a world where beauty, compassion, and understanding prevail. Through each piece, I strive to leave a lasting impact, one that echoes the promise of a more connected and empathetic world.

As I iron my cap and gown to proudly strut my way onto the stage at my high school graduation that I've been working to achieve for twelve years, I realize how my life will change in just a couple of months. Going to college is the dawn of a new horizon, a canvas of endless possibilities waiting to be painted with the colors of knowledge. It symbolizes a journey of self-discovery and transformation, a place where dreams are nurtured and futures are forged. Though life's path isn't straight, I'm ready to begin the spiral of new beginnings. College is the first step of this spiral: continually returning to things I thought I understood and seeking deeper truths. In the hallowed halls of academia, I seek not only to expand my knowledge but to immerse myself in a community of diverse minds and perspectives. I aspire to challenge my preconceptions and cultivate a deeper understanding of the world and my place within it. College means discovering my path in life even if it is unforeseeable. As I advance in my education and develop into a more mature and wise person, my parents' unending labor, having overcome a difficult upbringing, will have been worthwhile and they can be proud of who I will become. Somewhere out there in this beautiful and cruel world, there's a brown girl just like me, with the same abilities and the same ambitions, the same diligence, and the same love for her family, only she doesn't get the same opportunity as I do. I don't know why this is my life and that's hers, but what I do understand is that this rare opportunity of receiving higher education and the commencement of my adult life will mean nothing if I don't live a life of use to others. What I aim to accomplish is to become a beacon of hope, a bridge between suffering and solace. I strive to unravel the complexities of the human mind and understand the intricate tapestry of mental illness, to discover the roots of anguish and the pathways to healing. Through empathy and knowledge, I wish to transform pain into understanding, to replace stigma with acceptance. In this endeavor, I aspire to be both a scientist and a healer, merging the rigor of research with the warmth of human connection. I dream of a world where every mind is understood, every voice heard, and every soul cherished. Ultimately, I aim to illuminate the human spirit, to foster a deeper connection between us all. In understanding the mind, I seek to bright light to the darkest corners, to cultivate a garden of hope where every individual can flourish. Having these aspirations come to light and become possible is what college means to me.

My favorite book-to-film adaptation is 'To Kill a Mockingbird,' and it holds an exceptional place in my heart for its powerful and poignant translation of Harper Lee's classic novel into a visual and emotional experience that resonates deeply. This adaptation bridged the gap between the written word and the screen in a way that honors the profound themes of justice, empathy, and moral integrity. Translating one art form to another in a powerful and moving way. What makes this adaptation so special is its faithful depiction of the novel's setting and characters, bringing the small town of Maycomb to life with an authenticity that felt true to Lee's vivid descriptions. The film’s black-and-white cinematography captured the stark contrast of the era's social divisions, making the visual storytelling as compelling as the prose. Gregory Peck's portrayal of Atticus Finch is nothing short of legendary. His calm, steadfast presence and moral courage breathed life into one of literature’s most revered characters. Watching him deliver Atticus's powerful courtroom speech, I felt the same surge of admiration and emotional impact as when I first read the book. His performance transcended the screen, embodying the spirit of the character in a way that deepened my appreciation and understanding. The film also beautifully captured the innocence and growth of Scout and Jem. Their journey, seen through the lens of childhood curiosity and burgeoning awareness of the world's complexities, was portrayed with heartfelt sincerity. The moments of quiet introspection and the profound lessons learned resonated just as powerfully on screen as they did on the page. 'To Kill a Mockingbird' as a film not only stayed true to the narrative of the book but also amplified its emotional and ethical messages. The adaptation made the themes of racial injustice and moral courage tangible and urgent, enhancing the story's relevance for a broader audience. The courtroom scenes, the depiction of the Finch family, and the haunting presence of Boo Radley were all rendered with such care and precision that they bridged the gap between reading and viewing seamlessly. This adaptation is special to me because it captured the essence of what makes 'To Kill a Mockingbird' a timeless and transformative story. It brought the characters and their struggles to life in a way that allowed me to see and feel the narrative anew, deepening my connection to its timeless message of compassion and justice. The film reaffirmed the power of storytelling to educate, inspire, and provoke thought, making the literary and cinematic experiences beautifully intertwined.

If I could change one thing in the world, it would be to ensure equal opportunity for all. Regardless of background or status, everyone should have the ability to succeed and contribute to society through better education, safer living, and better healthcare. This change is crucial because it addresses the root causes of many social issues and paves the way for a more just and prosperous world. As a rising freshman at George Washington University, majoring in Psychology, I have always been passionate about understanding human behavior and helping others. My high school experience, where I maintained a 3.8 GPA, taught me the value of hard work and determination. However, I also saw how many of my peers struggled due to lack of resources and support. This disparity in opportunity was often linked to their socio-economic background, and it deeply affected me. Education is the cornerstone of opportunity. It opens doors to better jobs, higher income, and a more fulfilling life. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to quality education. Many schools in underprivileged areas are underfunded and lack basic resources. By ensuring equal access to high-quality education for all, we can empower individuals to reach their full potential and break the cycle of poverty. Safer living conditions are also essential for equal opportunity. Growing up in a Hispanic community, I have seen firsthand how unsafe neighborhoods can limit one's ability to succeed. Crime, violence, and inadequate housing can create an environment where it is difficult to focus on education or personal growth. By investing in community safety and affordable housing, we can create a stable environment where everyone has the chance to thrive. Healthcare is another critical area where equal opportunity is needed. Good health is fundamental to one's ability to succeed in life. Yet, many people, especially those from marginalized communities, do not have access to adequate healthcare. This can lead to chronic illnesses and a lower quality of life, which in turn affects their ability to work and contribute to society. By ensuring that everyone has access to affordable and comprehensive healthcare, we can support the well-being of all individuals and enable them to pursue their goals. As a woman of Hispanic descent, I understand the challenges that come with being part of a minority group. I have faced obstacles, but I have also been fortunate to have support and opportunities that have helped me succeed. I believe that everyone should have the same opportunities, regardless of their background or status. By focusing on better education, safer living, and better healthcare, we can create a world where everyone has the chance to succeed and make a positive impact. In conclusion, the change I would make to the world is to ensure equal opportunity for all. This is not just about fairness; it is about creating a society where everyone can contribute to their fullest potential. By addressing the root causes of inequality, we can build a better, more inclusive world for future generations.

I don't believe in fate. Was it fate that 13.8 billions of years ago, what started off as a tiny dense ball of fire exploded releasing mega-tons of energy into space? Was it fate, that billions of years in the future I watched my best friend progressively spiral into mania losing him for over a year to mental hospitals that incorrectly diagnosed and medicated him for what was later discovered to be his Bipolar personality disorder? Was it fate, that at 15 I find myself talking to a girl nearly 6 years younger than me, carrying a heartbreaking amount of wisdom and solitude wondering if it was her fate that she would become schizophrenic like her mother? As I kept that young girl company at the place I volunteered at, I was so preoccupied by the deep anguish in her eyes but the glimmer of light that I sensed as hope, and as our day came to end, she hugged me and referred to me as her big sister and asked if we'd meet again. Now at 18, I have not seen her since, but she has never left my mind, and not a day goes by that I don't wonder if she and her mother are safe, if she was reassured with the right education and intervention, and if my best friend's mental health will continue to impede the pursuit of his dreams. However, it has left me pondering about all the other people in the world who struggle with mental health and complicated mental disorders. I deeply feel for all the people in the world who believe it is fate to battle against their own minds and cannot receive the right treatment or it just hasn't been discovered yet. The mystery of the human brain has grasped my interests and passions for a long time. I plan on pursing a field in Neurology and clinical psychology to have the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives and help them understand and overcome mental health challenges. To become a real big sister and allow people to feel valued and seen. It is a field that combines scientific knowledge with empathy and compassion. The reason I don’t believe in fate is because I believe in making our own destiny. And I believe it is my destiny to help others understand their minds and understand themselves while learning to do so myself. To allow people to free themselves from the fear of fate and realize they have the chance to carve a destiny in which they can receive help and find harmony within themselves. We spend more time in our minds then reality, so why not make it a peaceful and safe place to be? Though life on earth began from microscopic organisms, humanity has evolved into a different branch of nature as we grow from the garden within our mind, and I believe we must tend to these gardens to flourish and blossom and understand the life within ourselves to create a better world for not just the future but for the present. As a first-generation immigrant, my parents have worked their whole lives to give me an opportunity of education and a better life than they had. I wish for nothing more than to make my parents proud and fulfill the opportunities to discover the mysteries within us and allow for my parents to take a break from their years of hard work. With this scholarship it could reduce financial burdens and pave the way towards achieving my dreams for what I envision the world can become.
