Joanne Pransky Celebration of Women in Robotics
In the not-so-distant future, where towering skyscrapers touched the heavens and advanced technology was the norm, Andriodia found herself at a crossroads. A talented trans woman with a fresh Mechanical Engineering degree, she was fueled by a passion for innovation, but fear had kept her away from the world of artificial intelligence and robotics. However, fate had other plans for her.
Andriodia's apprehensions were not unfounded. The rise of robotics and automation had indeed transformed industries across the globe. From manufacturing to logistics, automation was embraced for its ability to reduce production costs and improve efficiency. Countless jobs had been taken over by machines, leaving many skilled workers like Andriodia feeling uncertain about their future.
As she struggled to find her place in the competitive job market, her best friend, R3D3, a charismatic and intelligent robot, saw her potential and knew what she needed. Over the years, they had formed an unbreakable bond, and R3D3 was always eager to share the wonders of robotics with her. One day, after a particularly disheartening job interview, R3D3 sat her down and spoke from its heart, or whatever the robot equivalent was.
"Andriodia, my dear friend, you have so much potential, and I've seen your love for cooking," R3D3 said with a warm voice synthesized to perfection. "Why not consider the fascinating world of robotics applied to food preparation?"
The idea sparked a glimmer of hope in Andriodia's eyes. Cooking was her true passion, a realm where creativity met science, and she had never considered it could be combined with her engineering background.
"Isn't that field still being automated?" she asked, hesitant.
"Indeed, it is, but there's so much more to it than simple automation," R3D3 explained. "In this niche, robotics isn't just about replacing jobs; it's about enhancing human potential, creativity, and making delightful food experiences more accessible."
Intrigued by R3D3's words, Andriodia decided to give robotics a second chance. She applied for a position at a firm specializing in streamlining food preparation using robotics, and to her delight, she got accepted.
The firm was a marvel of innovation, bustling with brilliant minds and cutting-edge technology. Andriodia's passion reignited as she delved into the world of culinary robotics. As days turned into weeks, Andriodia witnessed the benefits of robotics in culinary applications firsthand. The robots brought consistency to recipes, ensuring that each dish was prepared to perfection, eliminating human errors and waste. This newfound efficiency also allowed restaurants to cater to a larger customer base, making gourmet experiences more accessible to all.
Moreover, culinary robotics unlocked a realm of creativity previously unattainable. Chefs collaborated with robots to experiment with avant-garde dishes, blending unexpected flavors and textures. The robots acted as the perfect sous-chefs, carrying out repetitive tasks, which freed up the chefs' time to explore their imaginative culinary prowess.
Andriodia's journey took her from Michelin-starred restaurants to food stalls in bustling streets, each place benefiting from the wonders of culinary robotics. And in every corner, she met talented chefs whose passion for cooking remained undiminished by the presence of robots. Instead, they embraced the technological assistance and viewed it as an artistic tool, not a replacement.
With the rise of culinary robotics, the food industry underwent a renaissance of sorts. As Andriodia stood amidst the whirring machines and sizzling stovetops, she knew she had found her calling. The fears that once held her back were replaced with excitement for a future where humans and robots worked in harmony, co-creating a world of boundless culinary delights.
In the end, Andriodia's journey became more than just a tale of adapting to the opportunities presented by robotics. It became a story of self-discovery, overcoming fears, and embracing the limitless potential of technology as a catalyst for human creativity and progress. And as she continued to grow in her chosen field, she realized that the path she had taken was not just a means to survive the changing times but a way to thrive and inspire others to do the same.

High school is often a tumultuous time, a crucible that tests one's character and resilience. My journey through those formative years was particularly challenging, as I faced discrimination from my peers due to the way I chose to carry myself as a trans woman. Despite the adversity, I demonstrated tenacity by navigating through this storm with unwavering determination and strength.
As a young trans woman, I was met with misunderstanding, prejudice, and outright discrimination from some of my classmates. My peers were quick to pass judgment on my identity, deeming it as "different" and "unconventional." Their insensitive remarks and exclusionary behavior wounded me deeply, making me question my authenticity and self-worth.
Rather than retaliating or seeking validation from others, I decided to embark on a journey of self-discovery. I turned to meditation and introspection as my guiding tools. Through these practices, I found solace in examining my feelings, thoughts, and aspirations. I realized that embracing my identity was not about seeking approval from others but about finding acceptance and love within myself.
It became clear to me that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't please everybody. I grasped the profound truth that not everyone would understand or support my choices, and that was perfectly fine. The path to self-fulfillment is never smooth, especially when challenging societal norms. Embracing this reality was liberating, allowing me to shed the weight of others' expectations and opinions.
Living authentically as a trans woman became my mission, and I refused to let discrimination deter me from my purpose. As I continued to persevere, I discovered an unyielding strength that came from living my truth. It was as if I had unearthed a hidden reservoir of resilience within myself.

Book Lovers Scholarship
I have always been deeply captivated by anything related to the mechanics of the human body, which is why for the longest time I actually wanted to be a doctor, however, that passion lead me to pick up the book Immune by Philipp Dettmer. I was going to Nigeria with my father one winter and I always use these trips as an opportunity to relax, meditate, and, most importantly, read. In order to support the youtube channel Kurzgesagt, whose content I ritualistically enjoyed, I picked up the book and brought it with me.
Nobody likes to read long, boring technical books, however, I do believe that everybody loves to learn and Immune makes learning about the vast world of our immune systems an absolute joy. It is chalked full of creative illustrations that keep you engaged with every flip of the page, insightful and humorous commentary that keeps you intrigued and relaxed, and succinct language that gets to the point instead of dancing in infinite technical circles like the textbooks I was accustomed to.
Immune feels personal; it isn't some impersonal scholar writing information for zombie-like college students to force-feed on until they finally graduated from college, but a person spilling out decades of their passion for common people who have a fledgling intellectual curiosity. The author had previously come down with cancer(he fully recovered don't worry); this hit me particularly hard because the trip we were taking to Nigeria was specifically to bury my late grandmother whom I loved greatly after Gallbladder cancer had taken her from us. Along with providing the medium with which to enrich my knowledge of my immune system it also provided me with the solace I desperately needed at that time.
I personally believe that Immune is a masterpiece and its best-seller status makes me that many others do as well. And to let you in on a small secret, in order to not finish the whole book in 5 days, I actively rationed pages like some family rationing canned goods in a fallout shelter.
