I am a freshmen Latino American studying aviation at The Ohio State University. I have had dreams of pursuing aviation since I was only 7 years old! I grew up in an Air Force family, and those experiences and opportunities have shaped my career aspirations from a young age. I was fortunate enough to receive my private pilot's certificate the day I turned 17 through an AFJROTC Flight Academy scholarship and continue to fly at The Ohio State University. I was also fortunate enough to be one of 100 students worldwide to receive a prestigious J100, Character in Leadership, AFROTC scholarship. As I pursue a commission into United States Air Force I hope to make myself the most desirable candidate to become an Air Force pilot. I intend to do this by enveloping myself in all things aviation and career preparation through AFROTC and the many clubs on campus. I hone my leadership skills and get involved in many community service events through AFROTC. I have my Part 107 commercial drone license and am also a member of the Civil Air Patrol. I didn't join any clubs to get my bearing during my first semester of college, but during the spring I intend to join Ohio State's Flight Team, a VR Flight Simulator Club, an RC Plane Design Club, and an Investment Group. I highly value my academics and see my grades as a testament to dedication and hard work. These core values also bleed into my hobbies outside of academics. I am an avid runner and run 4 to 6 miles a day. LinkdIn: www.linkedin.com/in/anthony-gonzalez-448a99328

--- I currently have my private pilot's certificate and part 107 drone license. I haven't flown much since getting my certificate at 44 hours, but right now I have 53 hours TT. This semester I will pick back up flight training and fulfill the cross-country requirements for my commercial pilot's license.
--- At only 7 years old I traveled across the country numerous times a year between my parents’ houses. I always flew with Southwest Airlines and was an unaccompanied minor (UM). Because I was a UM the flight attendants let me board the plane first. I always sat in the window behind the emergency exit lane. Why? Because that row gave me the best view of the wings and let me hear the harmony of the engines. I still remember my first flight—the bustling and chaotic ambiance of LAX—the grandeur of architecture and modern technology that filled the airport. Endless rows of airliners lined the gates as I walked through the terminal to my gate. As I walked to pick out my seat for the first time I glanced to my left and saw the wall of buttons and instruments that lined the cockpit of our 737. I was instantly hooked. Finally, there was a point halfway down the runway, engines roaring and vapor trails bleeding from the wings, that I decided that I wanted to learn everything I could about being a pilot. My intrinsic love for pilotage morphed into a passion for aviation and everything it represented. I spent the rest of my childhood setting myself up for an aviation career, and that philosophy heavily influenced my goals within aviation.
--- In summary, I want to get as close to aviation mastery as an aviator can come. This starts by actively striving to be the best pilot I can be through constant learning. I aim to excel in the training of my remaining certificates. I also intend to never stop learning as an Air Force aviator and at whatever airline I end up flying for afterward. I would love to get an A&P certificate to get a truly comprehensive understanding of these amazing machines. While a large part of my goals relates to flying, I also find immense interest in RC drones, RC planes, ATC, aviation business, airline logistics, and so much more. I hope to explore these interests within the courses of my degree, with my part 107 drone license, a flight dispatching license through Ohio State, and hopefully an MBA. I hope to achieve all these milestones to give me several different perspectives on aviation. If I am successful, I will truly feel that I dedicated my life to the thing I love.
--- Finally, aviation is important to me because of its public perception and incredibly demanding intricacies. The world runs on aviation day in and day out 365 days a year. It serves such a pivotal role on an international scale, but the public has many fears about it. I hope to be an educator with the knowledge I gain and dispel the many misconceptions and fears that surround aviation, starting with my dad. The world must have responsible and knowledgeable professionals representing the industry, and I certainly plan to do my part. Thank you.

As my bio says, I have been interested in pursuing aviation ever since I was very young. I still remember the first time I stepped on a Southwest B737 and sat in my seat in awe; immediately realizing that this would be the love of my life. Even now I still act in the same way every time I fly between my parents' houses. It may sound cliche, but I truly can not imagine pursuing anything else. I have pivoted my life to setting myself up for success in this field. The driving factor in all of my success in my academic studies has been the idea that I can continue pursuing aviation after high school. additionally, my love for aviation extends beyond the cockpit. I build FPV RC planes and self-studied to get my part 107 commercial drone license. I also self-studied for my private pilot written exam and received a 95 to make myself a better applicant for the AFJROTC Flight Academy. My experiences pursuing my private pilot certificate at the Flight Academy reassured my belief that the cockpit would be the best office for me. I am thrilled to get a broader understanding of aviation through a flight training college degree as opposed to just learning what is necessary through a normal flight school.
I have two options regarding what I want to do with my aviation degree and all of my advanced flight certificates. The first would be to follow in the footsteps of my parents and pursue a commission in the United States Air Force through the ROTC scholarship I was fortunate enough to receive. I would aim to certainly become a military aviator. A degree in aviation and the training I will receive in college would give me an immense edge in the Air Force's Undergraduate Pilot Training. If I do not receive a pilot slot through AFROTC, I would first serve my commitment to the Air Force and then use my ratings to flight instruct until I could soar the skies in an airliner. As you can see, one way or another, I will ensure that aviation and flight will be a part of my life no matter what happens.
A large part of my involvement in the community comes from my experience in AFJROTC. I have 40+ service hours doing numerous events to help our district and those in need. As a member of the AFJROTC senior staff, I have been in charge of running both a food and clothing donation drive. I also have participated in flag retirement ceremonies and color guards for local baseball games like the Dayton Dragons. Additionally, I participate in corps-wide service events like volunteering for the annual Air Force marathon right here in Dayton, Ohio. Apart from AFJROTC, I also participate in the community through the National Honor Society. Every week I tutor first graders at our district's elementary school in core subjects like math, reading, and writing. During the summers, whenever I am at my mom's house in California, I also like to make sure I am out in the community. Every year since I was a sophomore I have been a volunteer assistant coach for the Vacaville U10 Fast Pitch Softball team.
