My educational goals include getting into college, majoring in equine science, earning good grades, and graduating with my bachelor’s degree. During my college experience, I will work to establish strong relationships with my instructors, enabling me to build my skills through opportunities in my program like training green horses, learning how to diagnose and treat common conditions, learning about equine therapeutic riding opportunities to help those with disabilities, and understanding how to run a successful equine based business. I feel that establishing relationships with my peers in the pre-veterinary program will also be invaluable as we learn and grow together, and eventually act as a support network for each other after graduation. These experiences would lay a strong foundation for vet school, and I aim to be accepted into a graduate program allowing me to accomplish my goals of becoming an equine vet and eventually having my own veterinary practice.
I know this seems like a lot of work, but in my eyes, becoming an equine vet would be incredibly fulfilling. Ever since I started riding when I was 8 years old, I knew working with horses was going to be something that stuck with me the rest of my life. Given my own experiences with horses, and that learning how to ride and take care of horses has helped me build my confidence and bring joy to my life, I knew I wanted to work towards a career that would allow me to also help others.
