I was never really sure what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go careerwise. I knew I was good at math and science, but nothing really sparked my interest. Until last year, I took Honors Chemistry, and honestly, I loved it. It's an interesting area of science that has so many branches I could choose from. Before this, I felt like I would be trapped if I chose a major; however, chemistry offers so many options. Although, I have my eyes set on aroma chemistry. I want to be able to combine my creative side with math and science. Becoming a perfumer/cosmetic chemist is the perfect combination of these skills.
I feel I'm a worthy candidate because of my academic achievement and based on my family situation. My mother is single and is the only one providing income to our family. At times it was hard, especially since my sister and I were both adopted, but my mom was strong. This quality has made me appreciate her more than ever as I near adulthood. I will need to reflect that same quality. I have confidence I will. My mother has provided me with a solid foundation; I will succeed because of it. I am willing to work hard for my education. I deserve this.

Bold Be You Scholarship
I try to stay consistent. I'm not a very spontaneous person so I generally follow a routine. Of course, I deviate sometimes, but I'm pretty consistent. For example, I always drink a smoothie with breakfast and when I come home from school I play with my cat for 15 minutes. When I pass friends in the hallways at school I smile or wave. Small things like this connect to build a picture of who I am.
To be honest, from what I am aware, I don't struggle with my identity anymore. One of my core values is honesty; this is reflected in my day-to-day life because I enjoy being myself. Being genuine is the easiest way to live. Of course, I do get anxious about what others might think of me. Sometimes I wonder if I should act a certain way to appease others; however, I remind myself that I should just be who I am. If I take things slow, I can overcome anything. It is overall less stressful and I'm a happier person when I'm myself.
In the past, I've tried to change myself due to negative remarks. I was only unhappy though. Because I wasn't able to be myself and I wasn't good at being what others wanted me to be, I felt like a failure in both ways. Because of this experience, staying true to myself comes naturally now.
Bold Influence Scholarship
I would stand for the availability of clean water. Water is a basic human need. Even though clean water is necessary for life, it isn't readily available for everyone.
When I think of a "highly influential figure" I think of people like celebrities, famous YouTubers, and famous Twitch streamers. These are the influencers I am most commonly exposed to. If I were any of these, I would hold fundraisers by streaming. I would stream myself doing fun, unique activities. For example, Jaiden Animations, a famous animation YouTuber, recently streamed herself playing Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Any donations received during the stream would be given to Tiltify, a breast cancer research foundation.
After researching different organizations, projects, and charities. I would also want to hold a Q&A on the topic so people could be more informed. Ignorance is a common source of people's suffering. Hopefully, I would be able to help lessen this particular cause and effect with discussions. Of course, donating money isn't the only way to help. Even just being less wasteful with our individual use of water helps, such as taking shorter showers, turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth, etc.
It isn't fair that not everyone has access to clean water and I would try to make that right. For now, I just do my part on an individual level. I believe any effort is significant and that's all I ask of others: to at least try.
Bold Dream Big Scholarship
I want to become a master perfumer working for a cosmetic company in France.
Have you ever noticed that certain scents evoke specific emotions or memories? Sometimes it surfaces both emotions and memory simultaneously. Consider when you smell the scent of roses and think of a past romance or when you smell the aroma of tea and feel relaxed. This is because when your brain processes scents, the odor directly passes through the limbic system, which contains the region of the brain that oversees emotions and memories. Thus, scents are directly related to our memory and can surface emotions that people couldn't remember before the odor.
I want to take advantage of this fact and use it to help people connect my future fragrances with positive emotions. Such as someone wearing one of my perfumes to a first date. I want people to associate my fragrances with the excitement and giddy feeling of that first date. Maybe a person's best friend always wears perfume when you see them, one I created, you begin to associate that scent with your friend. Thus, whenever you smell that perfume you become happy and content because it reminds you of them.
This is how I want to affect people. Even if I am just one individual, I can make an impact. This is my dream.
Bold Love Yourself Scholarship
I love that I can easily laugh and be happy: basically, have a positive mindset. It is hard to look for the silver lining in every situation, but due to past experiences my mentality has become stronger and it has helped to make me a better person. Not only does it make my days easier and more memorable, but it is refreshing to other people. It helps enhance my time with others and laugh with people. I also laugh at my jokes a lot, which might be kind of odd, but I find it amusing: others might find it weird, but it doesn't matter too much.
Of course, I'm not saying I'm happy all the time. I just find life overall more enjoyable because I can see the positives. Having positive experiences with others is how people connect and develop relationships, even if brief. I want to gain knowledge through my own experience and relationships, but I also want to learn about others and their experiences. I contribute my ongoing laughter and happiness to helping me become more open-minded and learning more about the world through others.
Bold Science Matters Scholarship
My favorite scientific discovery is the discovery of the atom. Atoms themselves are fascinating. All matter of the universe consisting of millions upon trillions of tiny particles. The way things work on a molecular level. It's all so different from the world we can see. Sometimes it's hard to believe that what we know is even true.
The primary reason the discovery of the atom is fascinating to me is because of how it has changed through time. More precisely, how our understanding of it has changed. At first, atoms were just a theory. The existence of atoms was confirmed as technology advanced. It's fun to look at old models of the atom to see their stark differences. It is interesting to see how our understanding developed over time: how knowledge builds off itself. I sometimes wonder what the next model will be.
The atom is just my favorite example of science advancing.

My favorite scientist is Marie Curie. She was born in 1867 and was remarkably successful in her career in Physics and Mathematical Sciences despite it being a male-dominated field. She was intelligent and compassionate; her work helped to lessen the suffering of others and her dedication to science earned her two Nobel Prizes. One in Physics and one in Chemistry: chemistry being what I personally wish to pursue.
Bold Great Books Scholarship
A Tale of Apples is one of my favorite books. I remember when I first bought it. People say never judge a book by its cover, but that's the first thing that drew me in. It was unique, beautiful, and had a sketch-like appearance to it. I opened it and within the first two pages, I fell in love. The story follows the life of a girl in a world where gods and magic exist. She was born from an apple tree and raised by priestesses. She wasn't well behaved like other girls and often played in the sun which led to her having very dark skin; this was undesirable in her culture. Things like that didn't bother her though and I admired that. She didn't only have positive traits either. She was overly stubborn and not the brightest, but that made her all the more real. She didn't seem like one of those all-powerful superheroes or something; she felt human. The story was complex too. For example, the main antagonist is an evil witch who enjoys devouring the hearts of good people. She slowly tricks a prince into giving her his heart. However, this took time because he needed to be willing. So they spent many afternoons together enjoying each other's company. When she was finally ready to eat it, she couldn't. No matter how evil she was she couldn't bring herself to destroy the one person who showed her kindness. It's also not a cliche turnaround. She still desires a heart but not his. I love fantasy stories like this because of where they take me. Reality can be exhausting and it's fun imaging myself in worlds created by others and envisioning myself interacting with the characters, especially with ones as unique as the people in this story.
