Loxy Burckhard Love is Kind Memorial Scholarship
Love is kind is doing things for others not for an object as a reward, but rather the feeling of seeing someone smile and improve and knowing you made someone's day or possibly life better. Being kind means to help others the best you can without thinking asking for anything in return. Instead the only thing to think of is the goal of benefiting them and only them, not yourself. Being involved in numerous activities means I am around many different people who have different interests. It is preached especially in sports to be a leader and at an older age that is what expected of you. There are different types of leaders also, they are people who are big talkers, those who lead by example and many others. However despite this, I am not a stand out leader. I still do my best to help "behind the scenes." In sports if someone needs help with a skill, someone to speak with, or is bored and wants to go out and do something I am there to help them. There was one instance in volleyball where a teammate was struggling to understand what our coach meant by hitting the ball in different directions and struggled with actually trying to do it. So she came to me and I stepped to the side with her and explained to the best of my ability what the coach was trying to say and showed how to do it. Then after she attempted it I would help critique without overstepping the coach. She was able to better understand and her face lit up when she had a very good hitting attempt and our coach congratulated her. Her face alone was enough for me to be happy because it meant that she improved as a player and could continue to get better. Another example is when I used to assist my elderly neighbor pick up apples from her yard so she was able to mow. I was over there constantly to help her whenever she needed it. Her smile was so contagious and she was always a delightful person to be around and it was a good feeling to help someone so positive and be the reason she was able to smile. However I help others not only see their appreciative smile. I help others with the intention that they are able to improve in life and as a person. That is the greatest benefit anyone could ask for. The more a person is able to learn and the more you can teach someone, the more they could possibly help someone else in the future and then the kindness you started could spread. Another goal to being kind is that it spreads from someone you helped, to someone else and continues and spreads positivity in this world. My kindness goal is always the same, help them learn and improve. I want to go into physical therapy or athletic training. Both require compassion and caring for the patient, whomever they may be. I didn't always know what specific job I wanted, I just knew I wanted something where I could help people, and allow them to improve. Physical therapy, I think, is the best opportunity for me to help a lot of people. Being able to have people see their improvement and seeing their excitement will be my top goal.
