From a very early age, I realized that if I wanted better in life, I had to work hard but smartly for it. The better I wanted in life was to be financially able to care for myself and my loved ones without lacking or needing anything. Wanting something was one thing, but putting in the work to get it was a different ball game. My little 6-year-old self chose the path she thought was the best way to get her to her dreams- Education. For me, education became the vehicle that would take me to places I could have only imagined. It did deliver because I am currently a first-generation international student studying as a Pre-Medical student at a New York university. My dreams were slowly taking shape.
At every level of schooling, I did my best academically. But as I climbed the educational ladder, my father's finances slowly dwindled. It was not that it decreased. Instead, the demand for each level's tuition increased. He was the one who naturally worried about my tuition while I focused solely on my grades. Now at my undergraduate level, I had to start thinking about my finances. I am from a low-income 10-person household. I still have younger siblings. My father did and continues to do his best for me. But I do not want my dreams to end, as the vehicle of education continues to carry me to my end goal- a Physician. That is why I am applying for scholarships. I want these scholarships to be the gas that continues to fuel my journey. My goal is to graduate college debt-free. I know I will make it because I have faith, as faith does not make things easy. It makes them possible.
