Hi, my name is Angie I'm a Digital Artist and I'm attending FIT as a transfer student. FIT has a small major for Animation students. They only accept 24 students per year I am so blessed to be a part of their community. I enjoy doing what I love and I'm glad to be where I'm at in my life today. Being a woman in this field is hard because there are more men than women. But I keep striving because I want to represent us, women!
My goal in life is to pursue my dream which is to produce animation films. I would love to create something that is dearly personal to me. Being creative is my way of expressing myself also it's my way of escaping reality. What determines me from other candidates is that I’m determined driven I won’t stop till I get to where I’m supposed to be. I don’t only create art for myself but for others. I would want to help other people by spreading a message in a creative way.

Anne DiSerafino Memorial Arts Scholarship
What drives my passion for art is when I get a tingling feeling on my arm anytime I think about making an artwork piece. Art is like falling in love with someone you put so much time and energy but you won't know the outcome till the end. A lot of artists tend to get frustrated throw away their art and start a new one right away. Sometimes you have to stick with what you got and see the outcome. I remember watching this video it was behind scenes on the animation film Hercules the character design artist said, "You got to destroy it in order to create it". Those words stuck with me to the point I do that with the majority of my artwork today. I enjoy putting everything, I got into my craft. I feel like every piece I've made and making at this moment resembles me and different stages of my life. It takes me back like a portal to a different time and I'm reliving that moment. The mentality I had as a kid and now is very different. Drawings that I thought looked amazing back then compared to the present are shocking. I always go back and look at my old artwork because it tells a story only I can tell. It brings me joy to see how much I have grown as an artist and as a person.
If I win this Scholarship it would be an honor to represent us women who are striven as artists. Since the majority of animators are men I want there to be more females in this competitive field. This gives me the motivation to continue my education and beat the odds. I come from a low-income family and affording school can be hard as you grow up and have to pay for bills. Every since COVID 19 the world has changed and it makes going to school even more difficult than before. Having to wear a mask for 8+ hours in a day of college can be literally breathtaking. I try to push myself every day because I know that what I'm doing is for my future career. My mom is my number one reason why I'm in college because she didn't have it easy growing up. She tells me all the time how much she regrets not going to college. I just want to make her proud and show her anything is possible for us women.

Since I was a kid I always knew my vision would be somewhere in the lines of being an artist. Once I finish college I would want to pursue making my own animation films. I consider myself an entrepreneur I don't like the idea of having to take orders from someone else. Being able to do something I love was my main mission. In school, I was known for, "the girl who knows how to draw" and a lot of my peers would ask me to draw something for them. I loved to see the smile on their faces as I gave them my artwork. I remember one day my English teacher in middle school told me I should have a plan B if being an artist doesn't work out. I felt hurt in a way since I had this feeling she didn't believe I can make it as an artist, but it just pushed me even more to succeed. These life experiences molded me into taking art more seriously.
