Hello!
My name is Angelina! I am a college freshman! I will be attending the University of Texas at San Antonio this fall and majoring in management with competency in international business. Traveling and learning about all the different cultures and ways of life is something that really piques my interest!
I am an advocate for tobacco prevention and have worked with a state-wide organization, SayWhat, for 4 years. I love being educated on the harmful effects of this epidemic and going back to my community and educating them as well. Through all of my hard work with this organization, I have had many opportunities such as presenting in front of the deans of my city's local community college as well as being a guest speaker for the SayWhat! 2021 Conference in front of 200+ people! I even helped my school's tobacco prevention group win many awards.
Growing up, it was always just my mom, my sister, and my twin brother. My mom has been a single mother for over 20 years and has numerous struggles, especially financially. I am continuously working hard to be able to receive an education that will allow me to be financially stable in the future, but due to our already occurring financial struggles, it has brought a lot of anxiety to us because we are not sure if we will be able to afford my tuition. I want to be able to support not just myself in the future, but my mom as well. I want to repay my mom for everything she has ever done for me and my siblings.

My school's tobacco prevention group has been my pride and joy. This club was the main thing that made me realize I loved being an advocate as well as having a positive impact on my community. I would help organize activities called "Butt Hunts" where we would go to a selected location and clean up all of the cigarette butts. Knowing that cigarette butts make up about 38% of all litter and cleaning it up always gives me great satisfaction knowing I've contributed to cleaning the environment. Not only have I just participated in my school's tobacco prevention club, but I have worked with a state-wide organization called SayWhat! I had the amazing opportunities to speak in front of the deans of my local community college about their policies on the use of tobacco products on campus, I attended many fun annual conferences where I have been able to add to my knowledge about tobacco prevention and tobaccos harmful effects, and I was even a guest speaker last year for the 2021 SayWhat Conference in front of about 250 people! I really love educating others and never forcing them to necessarily quit their bad habit of smoking, but mainly just informing them in hopes they can one day try if they choose to!
I am still so young, but knowing that I have accomplished quite a bit in my short time so far, excited me for the future and all my future endeavors to make a difference in my community and the world. Knowing that my advocacy has had an impact on my community and even people throughout the state of Texas is mindblowing and I want to continue my journey of advocacy in the future.
