My current goals in life are to be a great mother and role model to my son, to advance my career in Communications and Marketing within my current company, while working with CASA to help advocate for children in need. Having grown up in the foster care system myself, it’s a passion that speaks clear and true to my heart.

Hello, and thank you for considering my application. My name is Angela Woodtke and I am a 38-year-old single mother determined to create a better life for my son and myself. I'm currently pursuing degrees in Psychology as well as Communications so that I can work with CASA of the Pikes Peak Region, and become a guardian ad litem and advocate for children in the foster care system—an area where I can make a significant impact, given my own experiences growing up in foster care.
Losing both parents at a young age was devastating, and I entered foster care, where I learned to navigate life on my own. By 17, I had no family to rely on, and was left to face adulthood alone. This taught me self-reliance and resilience, but also the deep need for compassionate individuals to advocate for children who find themselves in similar situations. I'm now a mother to a teenage boy with Asperger's Syndrome, and raising him has added both challenges and clarity to my life’s purpose. His diagnosis made it difficult for me to maintain a traditional 9-to-5 job, but it's also fueled my passion to build a career where I can help others like him and the children I once was—those who are vulnerable, often without a voice, and in desperate need of support.
Throughout my adult life, I have worked as a bartender, a job that has helped support my family but doesn’t offer the stability or long-term fulfillment I desire. I am currently enrolled in school to pursue a career that combines my personal experience with my passion for helping children in need. Becoming a guardian ad litem will allow me to be that voice of advocacy for children in the foster system, ensuring that their best interests are represented and that they don’t face the challenges I faced alone.
However, the financial strain of balancing school, work, and parenting has made it difficult to continue my education without assistance. This scholarship would ease the burden of tuition costs, allowing me to focus on my studies and finish my degree. With your support, I will not only change my own life but also the lives of countless children in the foster care system.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Your investment in my education will be an investment in the future of many children who desperately need strong, compassionate advocates.
