Bio

Proudly, four years ago my family (husband, 18 years old son, and 7 years old dog) and I moved from Brazil to experience life abroad. Courage is essential when leaving parents, relatives, and friends behind, but in order to accomplish your purpose in life, you need to sacrifice somethings that you love. Someone in the family had to be the “head” of the student visa in order to stay legally in the U.S., after concluding a bachelor’s degree in Tourism and a master’s degree in Marketing in Brazil, I decided to return to school in my mid-forties. Long Beach City College gives me the opportunity to accomplish my purpose through my current education at the Nursing Program. As an international student, I can only work on campus. It would be great to earn money to pay for my studies. Unfortunately, it has been difficult to manage work and studies, so I decided to do what I love the most - volunteering! It brings me great joy and a feeling of deeper purpose, but I cannot wait to serve others as a nurse. I arrived at this point maybe because I did not know that it was almost impossible to accomplish my goals in this foreign country, but my courage, my passion, and my faith guides me throughout all the challenges. The uncertainties about moving, the start of a new career, the lack of enough money, and my big dream made me stronger and confident that I will accomplish my goals.

We were a family of three people until the day my son asked us for a dog and not for a sibling. That is when our lives changed for the better. Bono came into our lives to bring joy and peace of mind. On a typical stressful day, coming back home and looking at him greeting us with so much happiness is priceless. We became better individuals because his example of kindness and love. Love you Bono!

My model is Ophra Winfrey. She indirectly influenced me to move from Brazil in order to experience life abroad. Bold Moments No-Essay Scholarship
In times of pandemic and all the uncertainties involved, it was challenging to face four hours shift in a COVID test site. All the questions came into my mind at the same time. Am I too exposed? Do I really need to volunteer? What if I get infected? Luckily, there are different ways to see the same scenario. The bright side was realizing that fears start in our minds, but we can control and see them as something beneficial to our growth.
