    Jim Maxwell Memorial Scholarship
The Jim Maxwell Memorial Scholarship holds profound significance for me as it presents an opportunity to alleviate the financial strain on my parents. Originating from Mexico, my parents made immense sacrifices to send me to America, envisioning a brighter future for our family. Now, I am driven by a deep sense of responsibility to support them in any way possible. When I first moved here, my faith was weak. In this foreign country, I found myself isolated by the new culture and customs, but to counter my loneliness, I found company in temporary friendships to ease my inner pain. Then, I met my best friend, Sofia, who truly introduced me to God by giving me my first Bible. Since then, my life has shifted dramatically. Accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior instilled in me a newfound sense of purpose and direction. One of the most profound revelations I experienced was a deep desire to embrace motherhood and to become a wife. I also found purpose in things greater than me that impacted me to change career plans God revealed to me that my purpose was in helping others through computer science. After learning about the harrowing reality of child sex trafficking, I was deeply moved and compelled to take action. Witnessing the suffering of innocent children and the tireless efforts of individuals fighting to rescue them ignited a fire within me. It was then that I realized what God wanted me to do. He wanted me to serve as an instrument in the fight against child sex trafficking, using my skills in computer science to help make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected. I thought to myself, how can I possibly help? Am I even good enough? Then, I thought about Mary Magdalene, how she, herself, went through extremely difficult trials. Through these tribulations, her faith, commitment, and discipline helped her become an instrument of help in the life of Christ. This proved to me that no matter who you are, where you come from, or what you have done, each of us possesses a unique role to fulfill in God's divine plan. Throughout the journey with my faith, God has transformed not only my calling but also the essence of who I am. Before, I used to only be motivated by ego and selfishness; all I wanted was external validation. I wanted people to recognize me, so I would seek attention in toxic friendships, drinking and smoking, all for validation. However, I came to the realization that I was not being true to myself. In the beginning, it was very painful to let go of these friendships, but the truth had set me free. Even though I had to let go, I did still love them. “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”- Hebrews 12:11 I now understand that the only approval I need is from God. My obedience to His Will has deepened, and turning to God has given me more inner peace than anything ever could. He has changed my deepest desires so that I may have the opportunity to help others and to support my family. The Lord has morphed me into someone I am proud of. I have seen the results of His work in my life, and I trust Him completely. Through this scholarship, I will be able to reach my purpose. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in My hand”. - Jeremiah 18:6
