For some, life isn’t fair at all. Many are born in poverty, dangerous neighborhoods, or without parental guidance. I was lucky enough to grow up with good means, in a safe neighborhood, and with mother that would do anything to protect me and ensure my wellbeing. It is because of that difference I have made it my goal to assist those who are less fortunate. This world is a dangerous and scary place, and there are people who are in need of a helping hand and guidance to the right path. However, we are sadly in a shortage of individuals who actually want to assist those who are in such of a need.
Currently, I am a Correctional Officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. With this job, I try everyday to help reintigate inmates into society as I promote positive change in inmate behavior. I use my position to guide those who didn’t have people in their life to show them the right path. From giving them structure to using disciplinary measures when needed, I help ready them for being released back into the neighborhoods of you and me. Some people dismiss those imprisoned, however if you fail to rehabilitate them they will be released back into our communities to only reoffend and possibly put others in serious danger. And allowing that cycle to continue in our country should not be allowed nor tolerated. Hopefully, you help me do my part in slowing down this cycle and making our neighborhoods and collectively our country as safer place to live in.
With this scholarship, you will allow me to continue my education at Sam Houston State University to accomplish my Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. And with that degree, I will hire onto the Houston Police Department so I can better assist the public in providing safety and promoting positive change in the community. Now, I will be able to go to the problem spots of public safety and attempt to stop the issue before it even begins. Wether that be talking down a person in crisis or assisting a victim in needed I will be dealing with the issues firsthand. It is my hope that with this scholarship you help promote change in not only my neighborhood, but yours. As we work together as a nation to help a country in dier need of public safety and structure.
