Throughout my journey, resilience has been the cornerstone of my character, a trait that has been both tested and strengthened by my commitment to marine conservation. My passion for the ocean and its inhabitants has led me to host various beach cleanups and dedicate countless hours to keeping Pinellas beautiful and Tampa Bay pristine. By conducting research to indicate concerning levels of overfishing and coral reef deterioration, I have engaged deeply with the challenges facing our marine ecosystems. More than 150 hours of my summer and school breaks have been spent volunteering and counseling at the Florida Aquarium, where I have educated others of the impact of human activities on marine life. This experience has not only enriched my understanding of marine biology but has also solidified my resolve to make a difference. The decline of grouper and snapper species in the South Florida reef system, which have fallen below their sustainable numbers, underscores the urgency of my mission. The potential commercial extinction of these species is a dire warning that fuels my desire to educate and mobilize my community and others to take action. This small example of an endangered species is sadly one of many. My resilience manifests in my ability to confront these challenges head-on. Whenever I encounter a setback, such as a particularly polluted beach or a disheartening study about fish populations, I channel my disappointment into determination. I organize more cleanups, I dive deeper into research, and I reach out to educate more people. Each obstacle becomes an opportunity to learn, to innovate, and to advocate for the marine life that cannot speak for itself. In the future, as I pursue a career in marine biology and veterinary medicine, the resilience I've honed will be invaluable. The path to becoming a marine veterinarian is fraught with challenges, from the rigors of academic study to the emotional toll of working with injured or endangered species. However, the same perseverance that drove me to volunteer, to study, and to lead conservation efforts will drive me to succeed in my career. I will carry the lessons learned from every beach cleanup, every hour at the aquarium, and every community outreach effort with me as I work to safeguard our ocean's future. I will use my knowledge and concern to pursue internships and research programs, in pursuit of my career as a Marine veterinary assistant, continuing to spread awareness and knowledge of our oceans and wildlife.

I am Amaya Campbell, a high school senior at Gaither High School, and I feel a deep sense of purpose and determination to pursue a bachelor's degree in zoology, oceanography, and biology. Being the first member of my family to attend college, I am driven by a desire to expand my knowledge of marine life and contribute to the preservation of our oceans. My passion for our ecosystem has led me to actively engage in beach cleanups and advocate for wildlife preservation. I firmly believe that without a healthy oceanic climate, our planet would be uninhabitable. Consequently, I am committed to informing others about the importance of ocean conservation and the need to give back to our community and oceans. However, I am aware that my journey towards my goals will not be without obstacles. Financial burdens loom ahead, as the cost of college can be overwhelming. As I navigate this challenge, I have taken on the responsibility of working 30 hours a week as a shift lead at Panera Bread. Additionally, during school breaks, I dedicate my time to working at the Florida Aquarium, where I have the opportunity to educate younger peers about marine life. These endeavors not only serve as a means to overcome the financial obstacle but also provide valuable experiences that further fuel my passion for conservation. Furthermore, I anticipate educational hardships as I embark on my college journey. The rigorous academic demands of pursuing a degree in zoology, oceanography, and biology require unwavering dedication and perseverance. To prepare myself, I am committed to studying rigorously in my free time, ensuring that I am equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in my chosen field. My dedication for ocean conservation stems from the understanding that the protection and preservation of ecosystems within the world's oceans and seas are vital for the survival of various species, including fish, mammals, reptiles, and plants. Coral reefs, mangroves, the open ocean, sandy shores, and the deep sea all play integral roles in supporting these diverse ecosystems. As I embark on this journey, I am excited yet mindful of the challenges that lie ahead. However, I am confident that my resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to ocean conservation will guide me through any obstacle I may face during my college years. With each challenge, I will continue to grow, learn, and contribute to a better future for our oceans and the extraordinary life they sustain.

    Zendaya Superfan Scholarship
I truly admire Zendaya's multifaceted career, but the aspect that stands out to me the most is her activism. As a young woman growing up, I was inspired by her journey and the progress she made in the entertainment industry. Seeing her on the show "Shake It Up" was a delight, as she showcased her talent and charisma. It was empowering to witness a fellow African American woman making her mark as an individual and breaking barriers in the industry. However, it was her role in the show "Euphoria" that truly captivated me. Zendaya's portrayal of Rue, a troubled teenager battling addiction, was nothing short of remarkable. Her raw and authentic performance shed light on important issues faced by young people today. Through her acting, she brought attention to the struggles of mental health and substance abuse, sparking conversations and raising awareness. Beyond her on-screen talent, Zendaya's efforts in activism have been commendable. She uses her platform to advocate for social justice, equality, and inclusivity. Her involvement in various causes, such as the fight against racial discrimination and the promotion of body positivity, highlights her commitment to making a positive impact in society. She consistently uses her voice to amplify marginalized communities and push for change. Zendaya's dedication to activism and her willingness to tackle challenging roles make her a role model for many. She proves that being a successful artist goes beyond entertainment; it involves using your influence to create meaningful change. Her commitment to making a difference is truly inspiring, and I look forward to seeing how she continues to evolve and contribute to the world.

Depending on where you fall, anime can be considered a widely watched aspect of tv or something o niche it feels as though you have struck gold. During covid, after every online class I would take, I would open my Crunchyroll app, and turn on Kakeguri. The show takes place in a private academy, where gambling reigns supreme and the tension is up. What makes the show so alluring, is its unique blend of psychological mind games, and complex character dynamics. The show's protagonist, Yumeko jabami, is an enchanting yet unhinged character whose unwavering confidence and love for the thrill of gambling inspire and intimidate those around her. Each gambling match is a carefully orchestrated battle of wits, where the characters use their cunning prowess to outsmart their opponents. The anticipation builds as the bets escalate, the tension in each scene palpable. The precise, vibrant animation keeps its audience on the edge of their seats, eager to see the next play. Moreover, Kakeguri explores themes of power, greed, and the dark side of human nature. It delves into the depths of the human psyche, exposing the lengths people will go to achieve their desires and prove themselves. What truly sets apart this anime from the rest is its ability to make its viewers question their own moral compass. It challenges us as the audience to examine our own limits, and what we would be willing to risk in pursuit of victory. If you're looking for an anime that will keep you at the edge of your seat and make you question everything, Kakeguri is definitely a must watch.

One of my favorite games to play in co-op mode is Mario Kart. The thrill of racing against friends and family in a light-hearted and competitive environment always creates unforgettable memories. One particular moment that solidified Mario Kart as my top choice for co-op gaming occurred during a multiplayer session with my cousin. Despite our parents' dislike towards each other, my cousin and I found common ground and bonded over our shared love for Mario Kart. We spent countless hours honing our racing skills, engaging in friendly banter, and strategizing to outmaneuver each other on the colorful tracks. One memorable session stands out vividly in my mind. It was a close race on Rainbow Road, the most challenging track in the game. As we approached the final stretch, neck and neck, the tension was palpable. In a split-second decision, I executed a daring maneuver that propelled me into the lead, leaving my cousin in disbelief. We both erupted into laughter, celebrating the intense competition and the exhilarating rush of gameplay. That moment encapsulated the magic of co-op gaming - transcending differences and bringing us closer together through shared experiences. Mario Kart not only provided thrilling entertainment but also fostered a strong bond between my cousin and me, despite the discord between our parents. It remains a cherished memory that reinforces Mario Kart as my favorite co-op game, and a testament to the power of gaming to unite people.
Janean D. Watkins Overcoming Adversity Scholarship
In this essay, I wanted to convey the determination and resilience that has shaped my character. I come from a low-income family, and growing up, I had to take on the role of a second parent to my younger siblings due to my sister's father frequently coming and going. Despite these challenges, my mother made a brave decision to move from Jersey City, New Jersey, to Tampa, Florida, in search of a better life and job opportunities. During this transition, my grandmother and I took care of my siblings while my mother started working in an entry-level medical position. My grandmother, being an immigrant, understood and supported my mother's desire for a better life and education. She stayed with my aunt while saving up to eventually buy a home. After a few months, my mother returned to New Jersey, had me pack my belongings, and started a new chapter in Florida. My aunt helped me tirelessly with the process of enrolling in school, including doctor's appointments, open houses, and gathering school supplies and clothing. I was determined to express my gratitude by focusing on my studies. I made it a point to call my sisters every night, offering support and assistance with homework, to bridge the distance between us. After months of hard work and numerous business trips, my mother finally bought a beautiful home. She then brought my siblings and grandmother to Florida, where they were enrolled in school. Following my fifth-grade year, my mother made the decision to send me to a high-end middle school that would provide a better education. My daily routine became quite demanding, involving two bus routes, taking care of our family dog, completing my own homework, helping my siblings with theirs, making dinner, and preparing for the next school day. Despite the challenges, I understood that this routine was not just for me but also to set an example for my younger siblings. I wanted to show them the importance of education and the determination required to overcome obstacles. The adversity I faced has become an integral part of my identity. I am grateful for the resources that were made available to me, as they have allowed me to improve my life, as well as the lives of my mother and siblings. These experiences have sparked a passion for marine science and a desire to give back to my community. I hope to use my studies to protect and preserve ocean ecosystems through research and planned management, ultimately becoming a marine veterinarian. Overall, this essay showcases my journey of resilience, determination, and the transformative power of overcoming adversity.
Overcoming Adversity - Jack Terry Memorial Scholarship
Determination is one of the many words I would use to characterize myself. Growing up in a low-income family and my sister's father coming and leaving, it was within a general understanding that I would be a second parent to my two siblings. After my tenth birthday, my mother, using all her resources, took a leap of faith and moved several states south by herself from Jersey City, New jersey to Tampa, Florida. A job was offered to her, and she started at an entry level medical position, while my grandmother and I took care of my two little sisters. My grandmother, an immigrant, was deeply understanding to my mother's wants for a better life and education. She stayed with my aunt, while determined to save up for a home. After about four months, my mother took a flight back north to New jersey, had me pack all my belongings, and had me start school in Florida, while my grandmother would continue to raise my siblings. After moving into her home, while my mom went on a business trip, my aunt would spend the next two weeks tirelessly registering me for school. Following the doctor's appointments, open houses, school supplies, clothing, and paperwork, I was enrolled. To express my gratitude, I was determined to put my efforts into my studies. Every night since the plane landed in Tampa, I would call my sisters to talk to them, console them, homework issues, and anything else to help them feel as though I was a little closer. Four months later, after countless business trips and house showings, my mother had bought a beautiful home. Soon after my mom had my siblings fly down with my grandmother and get them enrolled. After my 5th grade year of school was over, my mom had me travel on two different bus routes to go to a high-end middle school, that would improve my education. Following each school day, my afternoon was already planned for me. I would take two buses home, walk my dog, complete my homework, help my siblings complete their homework, make dinner, then prepare for the next school day. Despite my hardships, I knew that this uniformity was not only for me, but to present me as a role model for my younger siblings as well. Every morning, I wanted to sleep in, I had to remind myself how my little sisters saw how much pride I took in my education. The resilience and courage my mom used to work for a home for my sisters and I, I persevered and passed that same resilience down to my little sisters. Overcoming adversity is a core part of who I am, and I am highly grateful to have to the resources available to me to better myself as an individual. The financial and social hardships that came from moving 900 miles down south, have led to an improved quality of life for not only me but also for my mother and siblings. Adversity has taught me that it has to get worse before it gets better. Adversity has led to me finding an interest in Marine science, volunteering, and giving back to my community. I will use my studies to protect and preserve various ecosystems in oceans through planned management through research and give back to my community by becoming a marine veterinarian.
