Bio

I am a dancer from North Carolina who has lived and danced with Erbs Palsy my whole life. I have yet to let that stop me and continue to persevere so I can achieve my goals of working professionally in this field. Taking the next steps takes a lot of money, coming from a single parent household restricts that a bit, so scholarships are very essential for me.

My passion for dance is deeply rooted in my love for storytelling and self-expression. Growing up, I found that dance was a way for me to communicate and connect with others without using words. It is a universal language that transcends barriers, and I have always been drawn to its power. As a Black woman, I see dance as a way to honor my experiences and celebrate overcoming of my community. Dance allows me to express my identity and share my story with the world in a way that is both personal and powerful. At Pace University, where I am currently a sophomore majoring in Commercial Dance, I have had the opportunity to explore different styles of dance and learn from talented instructors and peers. This experience has only deepened my passion and commitment to dance. I am constantly inspired by the creativity and dedication of those around me, and it motivates me to push myself further. Dance is not just a hobby for me; it is a vital part of who I am and who I aspire to be. Every class, rehearsal, and performance is a chance to grow and discover new facets of myself. I hope that my passion for dance will lead me to a career where I can continue to express myself and inspire others. I dream of performing on stage, where I can bring stories to life and connect with audiences on an emotional level. I also hope to use my platform to advocate for diversity and representation in the arts, ensuring that voices like mine are heard and celebrated. Additionally, I am interested in exploring choreography and teaching, as I want to share my love for dance with the next generation and help them find their own voices through movement. I believe that teaching is a way to give back and nurture the talents of young dancers who may be searching for their own paths. Ultimately, I want my journey in dance to be one of growth, learning, and giving back. I believe that dance has the power to bring people together and create positive change, and I am committed to using my passion to make a difference in the world. This Scholarship Award would be an incredible opportunity for me to further my education and continue pursuing my dreams in dance. It would allow me to focus on my studies and training, helping me to reach my full potential as a dancer and artist. Thank you for considering my application. I am excited about the possibility of contributing to the vibrant and diverse world of dance and sharing my passion with others. I am eager to see where this journey will take me and how I can inspire others along the way.

Travel is something I believe everyone should make an effort to incorporate into their lives. It is imperative to be exposed to many different cultures. In America, we are lucky to have a huge melting pot of people from all over who we can learn from, but the best way to learn is through direct exposure. The way we learned to speak English and communicate was through exposure to the language, so it would work just the same with any other language. Being able to indulge in another culture with a completely different language is so eye-opening and really enhances the way you think. My goal in life is to be able to communicate in as many languages as possible and be able to fully indulge in every experience I have. Travel has the power to transform individuals by exposing them to different cultures, perspectives, and environments. As a Theatre/Performing Arts major at Pace University, I have come to understand the importance of diverse experiences. Immersing oneself in different cultures can broaden one's understanding of the world and foster empathy. It allows individuals to see life from various viewpoints, which is crucial in my field of study. For example, as a dance teacher, I know that dance styles and expressions vary greatly across the globe. By traveling and learning about these different styles, I can bring a richer, more diverse experience to my students. This exposure not only enhances my teaching but also my personal growth. It encourages me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new challenges. It saddens me to see how difficult getting a passport is now. You have to go through so many steps, papers, and money to be able to simply cross over the border. I believe passports should be something that is just given, just as an ID is to citizens. This would encourage people to go out and explore the world and open up their minds. I believe it could help bring the world together in general if people really took the time to go and understand how others live around the world. Helping out and volunteering domestically is one thing, going international with it is a whole other ball game that I think everyone should try. In conclusion, travel is not just about seeing new places; it is about experiencing new ways of life. It is about understanding that there is more than one way to live and think. This understanding can lead to personal growth and development, making us more empathetic and well-rounded individuals. As a rising college sophomore, I am eager to continue my journey of personal and professional growth through travel.
