Ethan Estess is an amazing artist who also makes great contributions to the marine science conservation community. A Stanford graduate, Estess studied both environmental/marine science and studio art. He now works as both a field biologist and an artist. Much of his artwork is dedicated to showing the public both the beauty of the ocean and the crisis that the ocean is facing, such as his pieces made from discarded fishing lines.

"One more lap," were the words running through my head at this moment. Originally, I was the alternate for the 800-meter run and I had accepted that my running career was over. Then one of our runners got hurt causing me to run in this meet and the important meets throughout the rest of the season. This was a lot of pressure and was also the last meet on our home track so I knew I needed to push more than ever before. I hit a major personal record and consider this my biggest achievement in my running career.

When it comes to climate change, it seems like so many people are uneducated about the topic. Even just scrolling through social media each day, I see tons of people misunderstanding what climate change is or straight up not believing that it is happening. Seeing all of the misinformation out there is so fascinating and scary at the same time.
I believe that climate change is one of the most important issues facing the world today and that we have to do something about it fast. However, to make a change, more people need to be educated about what climate change is and what they can do to help. They also need to understand how large-scale efforts, such as pollutant regulations put in place by the government, will have positive consequences and why these laws and regulations are necessary.
This is why I chose to pursue the two degrees that I am currently working for. I am double majoring in communication studies with a concentration in journalism and marine science with a concentration in marine biology. I believe that by combining science with writing and media, we can help the public to understand what is happening to our beautiful planet and how it will affect the human race. If people are not exposed to proper facts and information about the issue at hand, how will they want to help or learn more?
There are a ton of studies and possible solutions that are exciting! Seeing political figures talk about moving towards renewable energy is a specific progression that I am thrilled about.
When it comes to my personal goals, whether it be through writing, documentaries, the news, or any other form of media, my career goal is to educate as many people as possible about the topic and to try and bring people together in hopes of a healthier planet.
