WinnerBio
As an introvert at heart, growing up I was always one to observe people. Being the “quiet friend” allowed me to listen to what is explicitly stated and often pick up on the implications, thoughts, and feelings that are not said. I’ve grown increasingly interested in psychology, understanding mental processes and behavior. I really would like to study psychology. It may be because of my quiet personality and my desire to help others. I find myself motivated to help people struggling with mental health because not only does my family struggle with mental health, I do as well.
Additionally, being a Girl Scout isn’t just an activity I participate in, but it represents who I am as a person. I am actively involved in volunteer work in Darien. I am also an older sister in a single-parent household. Although some may view this as a setback, I have learned to be resilient, responsible, and a positive role model for my younger sister. In my community, I have participated in the Darien Cheerleading program for 8 consecutive years. I received the role of captain, and from there I was chosen to join the National Honor Society program. I am a very family-oriented person and I love giving back to my community. My goal for attending college is not just to pass my classes, I want to create a positive impact. The psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung once said "I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become," Through my hardship, I choose to persevere and prepare for what is to come.

Trever David Clark Memorial Scholarship
Amidst the chaos of my family's mental battles and my journey, one thing has become abundantly clear - the indelible impact of mental illness on my life. In a home where my father grappled with undiagnosed mental challenges, I found myself entangled in a whirlwind of emotional turbulence, yearning for stability and safety that seemed ever elusive. His erratic behavior, rapid mood shifts, and threats of self-harm left indelible imprints on my psyche, shaping my perception of self and the world around me. Within the turmoil of my family's mental struggles, I encountered my inner tempests, wrestling with anticipatory anxiety, major depression, inattentive ADHD, and OCD manifestations. Although my childhood seemed bright on the surface, I silently grappled with unseen struggles, desperately seeking control and harmony in a world riddled with unpredictability. Witnessing my father's attempts at suicide left profound emotional scars, serving as a perpetual reminder of the challenges I faced. Nevertheless, these experiences have forged a fortitude within me, guiding me to find strength even in the darkest of moments.
As I share my experience, I strive to shatter the silence surrounding mental illness and instill hope in those who suffer similarly. The scholarship in honor of Trever, not only offers financial support but also provides a platform for me to become a catalyst for change in the realm of psychology. My encounters have propelled me to passionately champion mental health awareness, provide compassionate care to abuse survivors, and serve as a guiding light for those in need. As I prepare for my education at Quinnipiac University, I remain determined to surmount the obstacles posed by my mental illnesses. My passion for psychology, particularly in the domain of emotional well-being, has compelled me to seek diverse resources to manage my mental health and continue to pursue my dream of becoming a psychologist.
Through my engagement in internships at Family Centers through active participation in group therapy with bereaved children, I have deepened my understanding of the significance of communal support. In advocating for mental health awareness, my mission is to dismantle the walls of stigma and cultivate a more empathetic and inclusive society that wholeheartedly treasures the strength and resilience of individuals confronting mental health challenges. My encounters with mental health have both shaped and my relationships, and professional aspirations. I regard these trials as gateways to personal growth and enlightenment, and I remain committed to self-advocacy and diligent management of my mental well-being through therapy and medication.
As a survivor of mental abuse and my engagement with mental health challenges has inspired me to pursue a future in psychology. I aim to create a positive impact on the lives of others, obliterate the stifling silence of mental abuse, and extend compassionate care to those in need. A scholarship represents far more than a financial opportunity; it symbolizes a pathway to manifest my dreams and gives me a responsibility to leave a mark of change on the world as a mental health advocate. I yearn to break down the barriers that prevent survivors from seeking help, By sharing my story, I hope to inspire others to break free from the shadows of mental illness and embrace their inner strength and weave their tapestry of resilience and hope. With this scholarship, I envision crafting a brighter future for myself and for all those whose lives have been touched by the complexities of mental health challenges. Together, let us create a world of empowerment, where mental health is no longer a source of stigma but an illuminating beacon of compassion and understanding.
Will Johnson Scholarship
During my journey to overcome the obstacles posed by my disabilities, I discovered the resilience that resides within me. As I prepare to embark on my educational journey at Quinnipiac University, I am determined to continue surmounting the challenges presented by my anticipatory anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, inattentive ADHD, and the symptoms of OCD. Despite these hurdles, I have found solace and purpose in my passion for psychology, particularly in the realm of emotional wellness. Throughout middle and high school, navigating academic life with these mental disabilities has been a daunting task. Thankfully, with the support of my Individualized Education Plan, I have been granted accommodation for my anxiety and depressive episodes. Although the journey has been arduous, I have sought numerous resources to aid me in managing my anxiety and pursuing my dream of becoming a psychologist. My desire to help others and my internship at family centers have provided valuable insight into the struggles individuals face in their mental well-being.
Despite its profound impact on individuals' lives, mental illness is often overlooked or misunderstood by society. Instead of being recognized as a legitimate disability, it is sometimes unjustly labeled as a weakness or inability to cope with the challenges of the world. This stigma can create additional hurdles for those already navigating mental health issues. However, it is essential to acknowledge that mental illness is a genuine illness and disability that affects people tremendously. Like any physical ailment, it requires compassion, understanding, and support from people around us. By shedding light on this aspect, I hope to break the barriers to stigma and foster a more inclusive and empathetic society that values the resilience and strength of individuals confronting mental health challenges. Through my journey as a future psychologist or psychiatrist, I aspire to play a vital role in advocating mental health awareness and providing compassionate care to those in need. Let us come together to build a world that embraces the courage of those with mental illness, recognizing their remarkable determination to overcome and thrive despite the obstacles they face.
Participation in group therapy at Family Centers with bereaved children has been enlightening and fostered camaraderie. It deepened my understanding of community importance during hardship. Despite having family and friends' support, I often isolated myself, which adversely impacted my grades. Transitioning to Fitch Academy in high school was pivotal. In this community of 20, I thrived in a nurturing environment. I now understand the importance of a robust support system, including family, friends, and mentors, for my future psychology career. Self-advocacy has been vital for my growth. Despite managing my mental illness with therapy and medication, I won't let it obstruct my ambitions. Instead, I view these hurdles as chances for growth and education.
My aspiration to contribute to the field of psychology drives me to become either a psychologist or psychiatrist with a medical degree. My goal is to offer genuine empathy, understanding, and professional support to those navigating their mental health journeys. I am deeply passionate about creating a positive impact on others’ lives and empowering them to thrive despite their struggles. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship, as it represents a pathway to pursue my dreams despite the adversities that I face. Through my journey, I hope to prove that, with dedication, resilience, and a strong support system, individuals with disabilities can achieve their aspirations and make meaningful contributions to society. Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to embarking on this transformative educational journey at Quinnipiac University and elsewhere.

As a passionate and driven young student, I wholeheartedly believe that our world thrives when we uplift and empower young individuals who are committed to working hard and who have a positive impact on their communities. Across the nation, a tapestry of exceptional students like myself, driven by a genuine desire to excel academically and make a difference, weaves a thread of hope for a better future. However, for many, the dream of pursuing higher education is marred by the formidable obstacle of financial constraints.
As an incoming freshman, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for accepting the Quinnipiac University's five-year psychology program. However, with my family facing financial hardships, the path to realizing this dream appears clouded. Nevertheless, my unwavering commitment to my community and my passion for giving back shine as guiding stars propelled me forward despite the challenges.
This summer, immediately before college, brought about an unexpected trial that shook the foundation of my dreams. A devastating house fire consumed everything we built and cherished, leaving us without a place to call home. Amid this tragedy, the road to college became an even steeper uphill battle. Despite emotional turmoil and uncertainty, I clung onto a flicker of hope, determined not to let this setback extinguish my aspirations. As the ashes settled, I found the strength to rise above despair and face the future with unwavering resilience.
In my life’s tapestry, leadership is woven through threads of responsibility, empathy, and perseverance. My journey as a Girl Scout and leader in various initiatives has bestowed upon me the gift of understanding and compassion. Witnessing the struggles of others has illuminated my path, leading me to dedicate myself to supporting those grappling with mental health challenges, a cause deeply personal for me and my family.
Eight consecutive years of cheerleading have taught me that true leadership is not just about giving orders, but inspiring through action and lifting others higher. Despite facing daunting setbacks, including injuries, my love for the sport and desire to inspire others have pushed me beyond my limits, allowing me to rise and shine as a beacon of encouragement for my teammates. At the heart of a single-parent household, I have found strength in being an older sister and a role model for my younger sibling. This experience has etched in me a profound sense of responsibility, instilling a burning determination to lead with integrity and have a positive impact on the lives of those around me.
In the intricate tapestry of life, this scholarship represents not just a financial opportunity but also a testament of belief—an acknowledgment of the strength and dedication within me. With profound gratitude and humility, I embrace this opportunity to grow, learn, and become an agent of positive change in the world. Quinnipiac University holds the promise of a new chapter on my journey—a chapter where I can study psychology and extend my impact beyond the borders of my community. By immersing myself in this field, I hope to become a heartfelt source of comfort and support for individuals struggling with mental health issues and their battles, resonating deeply with their own experiences. As I stand at the crossroads of opportunity, I am immensely grateful for your consideration and the opportunity to weave my dreams into a reality that will ripple with impact far beyond my own journey. Thank you for this gift of hope for believing in the power of young hearts dedicated to making the world a better place.
Derk Golden Memorial Scholarship
From the moment I first stepped onto the mat and felt the rush of adrenaline, I knew that cheerleading was more than just a sport - it was a lifeline. Cheerleading is not just a sport to me. It's a passion that has ignited a fire within my soul, and it has become an integral part of my life. As the captain of my team, I feel a great sense of responsibility and pride in leading my teammates to success. Cheerleading has taught me the importance of hard work, perseverance, and teamwork. It's not just about perfecting routines and executing stunts flawlessly, but it's also about supporting and encouraging each other through the ups and downs of the season. We are a family, and we work together to achieve our goals.
Furthermore, cheerleading has helped me to develop a growth mindset. There will always be someone better than you, and there will always be room for improvement. This mindset has motivated me to push myself beyond my limits, to practice harder, and to strive for excellence. The feeling of accomplishment after overcoming a difficult stunt or nailing a routine is indescribable.
But cheerleading has also taught me humility and grace. It's not just about winning or being the best. It's about showing sportsmanship and respect to our competitors, judges, and coaches. It's about accepting constructive criticism and using it to improve.
Cheerleading has given me confidence, strength, and a sense of belonging. It has allowed me to push past my limits, to achieve things I never thought possible, and to be a part of something bigger than myself. I am grateful for the lessons and experiences that cheerleading has given me, and I will carry them with me for the rest of my life.
Growing up, my family faced numerous challenges, including my mother's struggle with alcohol and my parents' eventual divorce. The weight of these struggles was suffocating, and I often found myself feeling lost, alone, and overwhelmed. As a result, I struggled with anxiety and depression, and it seemed as though there was no escape from the darkness. However, one day, I stumbled upon cheerleading, and it completely changed my life. Cheerleading has been an outlet for me, a place where I can leave behind the struggles of my home life and focus on something positive. It's a place where I can be a part of a team and feel a sense of belonging.
Cheerleading has helped me to gain confidence, strength, and resilience. It has taught me that with hard work, dedication, and a positive attitude, anything is possible. Every time I step onto the mat, I am reminded of this quote by Mary Lou Retton: "Optimism is a happiness magnet. If you stay positive, good things and good people will be drawn to you." Cheerleading has brought so much positivity and light into my life, and I am grateful for it every day.

Lauren Czebatul Scholarship
Volunteering has had a tremendous impact on my mindset. As a Girl Scout, I was able to learn the importance of giving back to my community, and that motivated me to continue volunteering in various ways. One of the ways I have been volunteering is by creating a positivity page where I share inspiring messages and quotes to help people look at life in a different perspective. Seeing how my words can positively impact someone's day has been incredibly rewarding and has taught me the power of positivity.
Recently, I have also had encounters with suicide that have further reinforced the importance of spreading positivity and advocating for mental health awareness. Witnessing the impact of mental health struggles on individuals and their families has made me realize how crucial it is to support those who are struggling.
In addition to my involvement with Girl Scouts and creating the positivity page, I have also volunteered at local organizations focused on mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Through these experiences, I have seen the impact that these issues have on individuals and their families.
Volunteering has changed my mindset in many ways. It has taught me the importance of giving back to the community, and has shown me the power of kindness and empathy. Through my work with these organizations, I have developed a deeper understanding of mental health and its complexities, and have learned valuable skills in communication and active listening.
However, as a student who comes from a lower-income family, I face significant financial barriers when it comes to pursuing my higher education goals. While I am determined to continue my education and eventually open my own practice to help those struggling with mental health issues, the cost of tuition, textbooks, and living expenses can be overwhelming.
Receiving this scholarship would help me continue to pursue my passion for psychology and mental health advocacy without having to worry as much about the financial burden. With this support, I can focus more on my studies and volunteer work, and ultimately achieve my dreams of making a positive impact on the lives of those around me.
Furthermore, during my time as a volunteer, I witnessed the devastating impact of suicide on individuals and families. It is heartbreaking to see the aftermath of someone taking their own life and the pain it causes those left behind. This experience has further emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and support, and it has strengthened my resolve to pursue a career in psychology.
Despite my passion and determination to pursue higher education, financial constraints have made it difficult for me to achieve my goals. My family has faced financial struggles, and as the eldest child, I feel a responsibility to help support them. One of the problems that I have noticed in my community is the lack of mental health resources available, especially for individuals who may not have access to transportation or who live in rural areas. I have personally experienced the frustration of trying to find affordable and accessible mental health services, which inspired me to create a solution to this problem.
My plan would be to create a mobile mental health clinic that would travel to different neighborhoods and rural areas to provide mental health services to those in need. The clinic would be equipped with private consultation rooms, a waiting area, and a team of licensed mental health professionals, including therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists.
To make the clinic accessible to everyone, regardless of income, the services would be provided on a sliding scale fee basis. The clinic would also accept insurance and offer free services to individuals who cannot afford to pay. The goal would be to provide quality mental health care to underserved communities and reduce the stigma associated with seeking help for mental health issues.
To fund the mobile mental health clinic, I would seek grants and donations from local businesses, foundations, and government agencies. I would also work with community leaders to raise awareness and support for the project. Additionally, I would partner with local schools, community centers, and other organizations to reach as many individuals as possible.
To ensure the success of the mobile mental health clinic, I would hire a team of experienced mental health professionals who share the same vision and passion for helping others. I would also develop a comprehensive marketing and outreach plan to promote the services and increase awareness of mental health resources in the community.
In conclusion, the creation of a mobile mental health clinic would help to address the critical need for accessible and affordable mental health services in underserved communities. With the necessary funding and resources, this plan could make a significant impact on the mental health and well-being of individuals in need.
Pursuing higher education is an expensive endeavor that requires significant financial investment. Despite this, I remain determined to continue my education and pursue my dreams of becoming a licensed psychologist. While the financial burden of higher education is certainly daunting, I believe that the benefits of education far outweigh the costs. Education has the power to open doors to opportunities and to transform lives, not just for individuals, but for entire communities. Therefore, even though the cost of continuing my education is high, I am willing to make the necessary sacrifices to achieve my goals. I am eager to learn and grow, and I am confident that my education will enable me to make a meaningful impact in the world.
I am aware that starting and running a private practice can be a significant financial investment, and it requires careful planning and a solid understanding of the business side of psychology. That's why I am committed to continuing my education and gaining the necessary skills and knowledge to be successful in my future endeavors.
Through my studies and research, I hope to learn more about how to effectively manage a practice, from marketing and financial management to ethical considerations and providing quality patient care. I am eager to put this knowledge into practice and help those in need of mental health support, regardless of their financial situation or background.
Overcoming Adversity - Jack Terry Memorial Scholarship
Life is full of challenges, and we all face them at some point in our lives. However, the way we approach and overcome these challenges is what shapes us into the person we are today. My life has been full of challenges, but I believe that each one has given me the strength and resilience to succeed.
Growing up, my family faced financial struggles, and my mother, a single parent, had to work hard to provide for my sister and me. Despite the difficulties, she always emphasized the importance of education and encouraged us to pursue our dreams. Her unwavering support has inspired me to work hard and never give up on my goals.
In addition to financial struggles, I also struggled with mental health issues, which were exacerbated by the alcohol addiction of both of my parents. The constant stress and chaos at home led to anxiety, depression, and OCD, which affected my academic performance and social life. However, instead of letting these challenges defeat me, I sought help and found ways to cope.
Through therapy, self-care, and a supportive network of friends and family, I was able to overcome these challenges and learn valuable lessons about resilience and perseverance. These experiences have shaped me into a compassionate and empathetic individual who understands the struggles of those dealing with mental health issues and addiction.
Despite the challenges, I have always had a passion for helping others, particularly those who are struggling with mental health issues. My experiences have led me toward the career path of becoming a psychologist. I want to use my education and training to help others overcome the obstacles they face and lead fulfilling lives.
My dream for the future is to create a more understanding and accepting society, where people can seek help without feeling ashamed or stigmatized. I believe that mental health issues should be treated with the same importance as physical health issues, and I want to contribute to that change.
Receiving a scholarship would be a significant step towards achieving my dreams. It would alleviate the financial burden of my education and allow me to fully focus on my studies and future career goals. With the support of the scholarship, I can make a meaningful impact in society and give back to those who have faced similar challenges.
In conclusion, life is full of challenges, but it does not close the door to success. Adversity can be an opportunity for growth and development, and my experiences have taught me the importance of resilience and perseverance. My struggles have inspired me to pursue a career in psychology, and with the help of a scholarship, I can work toward making a positive impact on society. I am excited about the future and eager to see where my dreams and aspirations take me.
JADED Recovery Scholarship
Having parents who struggle with addiction has greatly impacted my life in many ways. It has affected my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations in ways I never could have imagined.
Growing up in a household where addiction was a prevalent issue was difficult. My parents would often drink excessively which made it hard for my sister and me to concentrate on our schoolwork. In some cases, their addiction resulted in them being unable to fulfill their parental duties. This caused us to take on more responsibility than we should have had as children. We were also constantly worried about their well-being, which led to feelings of anxiety and stress.
The impact of addiction on my family has been far-reaching, and it has caused my parents to divorce. The separation of my family was one of the hardest things I have ever had to go through. It felt like everything was falling apart, and I was left feeling lost and alone. I had to learn how to navigate a new family dynamic, which was challenging, but it has also helped me develop resilience and adaptability.
Regarding my career aspirations, my experiences with addiction have played a significant role in shaping my future goals. I have always been interested in helping people, and my experiences with addiction have made me realize that I want to help those who are struggling with addiction and mental health issues. I have seen firsthand how addiction can impact families and individuals, and I want to use my education to help others who are going through similar experiences.
Despite the challenges that addiction has presented in my life, I remain hopeful for the future. My experiences have made me a stronger, empathetic, and compassionate person. I am committed to making a positive impact in the world. I believe that through education, advocacy, and support, we can create a more understanding and compassionate society that supports those struggling with addiction and mental health issues.
In conclusion, my experiences with addiction have greatly impacted my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. It has been a difficult journey, but it has also taught me valuable lessons about resilience, compassion, and the importance of seeking help when needed. I am committed to using my experiences to help others. I believe that with the right resources and support, we can overcome addiction and create a brighter future for ourselves and our families.
Receiving a scholarship would be life-changing for me as it would help me achieve my dream of becoming a licensed psychologist. I believe that my personal experiences with addiction and mental health struggles can help me to connect with and provide support to individuals who are going through similar experiences. By pursuing a Ph.D. in psychology, I'll have the knowledge necessary to help others overcome their addiction and mental health challenges. A scholarship would give me the financial stability I need to focus on my studies and help me to achieve my goals.
It's important to note that addiction to drugs and alcohol is not a character flaw, but rather a coping mechanism for underlying mental health issues. My dad has been diagnosed with multiple personality disorders, while my mom struggles with anxiety and major depressive disorder. Addiction is often a result of untreated mental health conditions, and it's important to address the root causes of addiction to overcome it. By destigmatizing addiction and mental health issues, we can create a society that encourages individuals to seek help and support for their struggles. Greater awareness and access to resources can help individuals overcome addiction and create healthier and happier lives.
Elijah's Helping Hand Scholarship Award
Mental health has always been a prevalent topic in my life. My anxiety, OCD, and depression have impacted my daily life in ways I never imagined. These challenges have been daunting, but I've learned that by being open and honest about my struggles, I can help others going through similar experiences. Last year, my town was struck by a tragedy that shook the entire community. Three young kids passed away, some taking their own lives, leaving behind their families, friends, and classmates. The news of their deaths devastated me, and it felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders. It was a stark reminder of how mental health struggles can take a toll on anyone, regardless of age or background. In the aftermath of this tragedy, I felt a deep sense of sorrow, but also a renewed sense of determination. I wanted to do something to help, to prevent anyone else from experiencing the same pain and heartache. In my search for mental health internships, I found a local mental health institute to learn about mental health, suicide prevention, and how to support those with mental illnesses. I've come to realize the importance of mental health advocacy and education. It's crucial that we break down the stigma surrounding mental illness and create a more supportive and understanding society. No one should ever feel ashamed or alone in their struggles. My personal experiences have shown me the power of seeking help, and the impact it can have on someone's life. I know that no matter how hard I try, I cannot always manage my mental health issues alone. As a result of this realization, I've been able to reach out to others. I have found that talking to a therapist, participating in support groups, and practicing self-care has been helpful in my journey toward healing. Additionally, the recent loss of three young people in my community has had a profound impact on me. I gained a greater appreciation for life and its fragility. The tragic events have also highlighted the importance of mental health awareness and the need for support and resources for those struggling with mental illness. Through my experiences with mental health challenges and the loss of young lives in my community, I have become more passionate about advocating for mental health awareness and support. I believe that we need to create a culture where seeking help is encouraged and normalized. I have made it my mission to spread awareness about mental health and promote self-care and support within my community and beyond. My personal experience with mental health challenges has given me a unique perspective on the importance of mental wellness. I believe that everyone deserves access to quality mental health care, and I'm passionate about using my education to help make a positive impact in people's lives. In addition to my passion for psychology, Heavy Metal music is a significant source of inspiration for me. The genre's raw energy and powerful lyrics convey a sense of rebellion, empowerment, and resilience that resonates with me deeply. Heavy Metal music has been a great stress reliever for me, and it has helped me find a sense of belonging and self-expression. The community it creates is diverse, supportive, and empowering, and I believe that Heavy Metal music can bring people together in meaningful ways.
For instance, when I was struggling with the pressures of college and life, listening to the heavy metal band Metallica helped me feel empowered and capable of overcoming any obstacle. The lyrics of their song "Enter Sandman" speak to the fear and anxiety that can consume us, but also to the power we have within ourselves to face those fears head-on and emerge victorious. Heavy Metal music has given me strength and resilience; I believe it can do the same for others.

Freddie L Brown Sr. Scholarship
Once upon a time in the city,
Lived a girl with hair so pretty,
But not in the traditional sense,
It was wild, unruly, and immense.
She tried every product, every potion,
To tame it down with lotion,
But no matter what she did,
Her hair just refused to budge.
She tried gel, mousse, and spray,
But her hair just wouldn’t play,
She even cut it short,
But it just grew back with a snort.
She tried straightening irons, and curling wands,
But her hair just wouldn’t comply with demands,
She even dyed it blonde,
But it just came out looking like a fronde.
She felt like her hair was a curse,
But then she had an epiphany, something that burst
She realized, why fight nature, when it's so grand,
She embraced her hair, and took a stand.
Now she walks with her head held high,
With a wild mane, reaching the sky,
People stare, some with surprise,
But she just winks, and says with a sigh.
"This is me, wild and free,
I may not fit in society,
But I'm happy and that's all that's right,
With my wild hair, I shine so bright."
She started to see the beauty in her hair,
It was like a wildflower, so rare,
It made her stand out in a sea of roses,
It made her feel like a queen among poses.
So, if you ever see her on the street,
With hair as wild as can be,
Don't be startled, don't be scared,
Just smile and give her a friendly stare.
She felt like an outsider, with hair so wild,
Different from the rest, it made her feel exiled.
But then she found a community so true,
Of individuals who embraced what made them unique too.
They supported each other, celebrated their differences,
Realized that true beauty comes in all types of appearances.
She learned to love herself, just the way she is,
And her wild hair became a symbol of her strength and fizz.
It reminded her to never conform, to society's standards,
To always be true to herself, to take a stand.
She uses her hair as a platform, to inspire and guide,
To show others, it's okay to stand out, to be different and abide.
Proud of who she is, her wild hair is a constant reminder,
Of her strength, her individuality, and her inner glimmer.
So, if you ever see her on the street, with hair so wild and free,
Don't be startled, don't be scared, just smile and let her be.

A child of divorce, with a broken heart
Feels torn apart, pulled far apart
Once a family, now just a start
Of a life, filled with pain and scars
Memories of laughter, now a blur
Replaced with tears, and feeling insecure
Wondering why, this had to occur
Wanting to go back, to the way it was before
The love and warmth, now gone astray
Leaves this child, feeling lost and gray
Wishing for a love, that's here to stay
But all that's left, is hurt and dismay
The future seems uncertain and bleak
But the child holds on, to what they seek
To heal the wounds, and learn to speak
Of a love that's true, and not unique
Though the road ahead, may be long
This child will find, where they belong
With the hope and strength, to carry on
And turn the pain, into a beautiful song
This child of divorce, may be broken
But their spirit, will never be spoken
For they will rise, from the ashes of heartache
And in their love, they will find a new wake

My educational goals include obtaining a degree in psychology and becoming a licensed therapist. I have always been passionate about helping others and have always been drawn to the field of psychology. I believe that this field will give me the opportunity to make a positive impact in people's lives, especially for those who have been through difficult experiences like myself.
One of the obstacles I have experienced on my educational journey is my dad's incarceration. This was a difficult time for me and my family, and it had a significant impact on my emotional well-being. However, despite the distance and circumstances, my dad would write me letters, encouraging me to keep going and never give up on my dreams. His words of encouragement and belief in me helped me to keep going and motivated me to work even harder towards my goals.
Another obstacle I have faced is the financial constraints that come with my mom being a single parent raising two daughters while dealing with the divorce. Growing up in a low-income household has been challenging, but it has taught me the importance of hard work and perseverance. My mom's sacrifices and determination to provide for us have been a constant source of inspiration for me.
Furthermore, during this period of time my father was also dealing with cancer and it was hard for me to see him fighting for his life and it was a very stressful time for me and my family, but my father never gave up and he fought until the end, and that helped me to learn that no matter what life throws at you, you should never give up on your dreams.
While these obstacles have been challenging, I believe that they have made me a stronger and more resilient person. I have learned to persevere through difficult times and to never give up on my dreams. I am determined to use my experiences to help others who have been through similar situations and to be a support to them. These obstacles may affect my progress but I am determined to overcome them and achieve my educational goals.
Looking back at my experiences now, as I am older, I realize that going through these obstacles at a young age has only made me stronger. The emotional and financial struggles that I faced during my childhood have taught me valuable life lessons. I have learned to be resilient and to never give up, even when things get tough. I have also learned the importance of perseverance and hard work. These lessons have helped me to become a more determined and ambitious person. I believe that my experiences have helped me to develop a unique perspective and understanding that will be beneficial in my future career as a therapist. Additionally, I also realized that these experiences have allowed me to empathize with others who have been through similar struggles, making me a more compassionate and understanding person. Overall, although these obstacles were difficult to overcome at the time, I now see them as opportunities for growth and development, which will help me to achieve my educational goals and make a positive impact in the lives of others.
Future Is Female Inc. Scholarship
Feminism can be compared to the metamorphosis of a butterfly. Just as the butterfly starts off as a caterpillar, confined to a small, restricted existence, women too have been confined to a limited role in society. Feminism is the process of breaking out of that cocoon and spreading our wings to reach our full potential and live life on equal terms as men.
Feminism is important because it is the necessary catalyst for women's transformation into their true selves. Without it, we would remain stuck in the cocoon, unable to reach our full potential and soar to new heights. It brings attention to the ways in which society's norms, biases and discrimination have held women back and works towards creating a more inclusive society.
An inspirational person to me in the feminist movement is Malala Yousafzai. She fought for the rights of girls to education in her native Pakistan, and her bravery and resilience in the face of oppression is truly inspiring. Her story has shown me that one person can make a significant impact and be a powerful force for change, even in the face of adversity.
Furthermore, I also strive to be a good example and lead by example, in the way I treat and interact with others, especially with women. I try to promote gender equality in my daily interactions and to challenge any form of discrimination or bias that I encounter. I believe that small steps and actions can lead to a big impact in the long term and bring about positive changes in the community and society.
In summary, feminism can be compared to the metamorphosis of a butterfly, it is the necessary catalyst for women's transformation into their true selves. Malala Yousafzai is an inspirational figure in the feminist movement, who has shown me that one person can make a significant impact. In my community and school, I am contributing to the feminist movement by being an advocate for women's rights and equality, volunteering, educating myself and others about the importance of intersectionality, and leading by example in my interactions with others.
It is important to note that the feminist movement is not just about women's rights, but also about creating a more equal and just society for everyone. As a member of the feminist movement, it is crucial for me to understand and acknowledge the intersectionality of different identities and the ways in which different forms of oppression intersect. By working to dismantle systems of oppression and creating a more equitable society, we are not only helping women, but also marginalized groups such as people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with disabilities.
In addition, I also believe that the feminist movement is a continuous process and it is important to keep learning, growing, and evolving. This means that I am constantly seeking out new information and perspectives and being open to feedback and critique to ensure that my own actions align with the values of intersectional feminism. Therefore, I am committed to continuing my education and being an active participant in the feminist movement for the long-term.
Lieba’s Legacy Scholarship
As a future psychologist, my career goal is to support the development and well-being of gifted children. Gifted children possess exceptional abilities and talents, however, they also have unique needs that require specialized attention and support in order to reach their full potential.
One of the main ways in which I plan to foster the social-emotional well-being of gifted children is by providing a safe and nurturing environment where they feel accepted and valued for their unique abilities. This can be achieved by providing individual and group therapy sessions, where children can learn coping mechanisms for dealing with their giftedness and the pressures that come with it. Additionally, I plan to create opportunities for social interaction and peer support, where gifted children can connect and collaborate with others who share similar experiences and challenges. Furthermore, I will work closely with parents and teachers to help them understand and support the social-emotional needs of gifted children, so that they can provide a more inclusive and supportive environment at home and at school.
Another important aspect of my career goals is to meet the intellectual needs of gifted children. This can include providing advanced educational opportunities, such as enrichment programs or specialized classes, that challenge and engage gifted children and help them reach their full potential. Additionally, I plan to work with teachers to help them understand the unique learning needs of gifted children, and provide them with the support and resources they need to effectively teach and differentiate instruction for them. Furthermore, I will work with school administrators to advocate for the identification and support of gifted students in the school system.
In addition, I also plan to conduct research on the developmental and educational needs of gifted children to better understand their unique characteristics and to develop new strategies to support their growth and development. This research will provide insights into the best practices to support the diverse needs of gifted students, including those from underrepresented groups.
Another important aspect of my career goals as a psychologist is to provide support for the development of self-awareness and self-advocacy skills among gifted children. Gifted children are often highly self-motivated, but they may struggle with understanding and communicating their own needs and abilities. By providing guidance and support in this area, I aim to empower gifted children to take an active role in their own development and learning.
I plan to accomplish this by providing individual and group counseling sessions that focus on self-reflection and self-expression. Through these sessions, children will have the opportunity to explore their strengths, interests, and learning styles, and to learn how to communicate their needs and wants to others. Additionally, I will provide guidance on setting goals and developing plans for achieving them, which will help children to become more self-directed learners. Furthermore, I will work closely with parents and teachers to help them understand how to support the development of self-awareness and self-advocacy skills in gifted children.
Developing self-awareness and self-advocacy skills will enable gifted children to become more responsible and self-reliant, which will help them to take ownership of their own learning and development. It will also help them to understand and communicate their own needs and abilities, which will be beneficial in their future academic and professional careers.
In summary, my career goal as a psychologist is to support the development and well-being of gifted children by providing specialized attention and support to meet their social-emotional and intellectual needs. By working closely with parents, teachers, school administrators and researchers, I aim to help gifted children reach their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.

The universe is a vast and mysterious place, filled with wonder and beauty. It is a place that has captured the imaginations of humans for centuries, and continues to inspire us to this day. Understanding the nature of our universe is not just a scientific pursuit, but a human one as well. It is a quest for knowledge, for meaning, and for understanding our place in the world.
The stars above us, the galaxies beyond, and the infinite expanse of space all hold secrets that we are yet to uncover. We are driven to explore, to discover, and to unravel the mysteries of the universe. We want to understand how it all began, how it all works, and what our place is in it all.
To better understand the nature of our universe, we must employ a variety of ideas and concepts. We must use the tools of science, such as observation, experimentation, and mathematical modeling, to gain a deeper understanding of the physical laws that govern the universe. We must also employ the power of imagination, allowing ourselves to think beyond the boundaries of our current understanding, and to explore the possibilities of what might be.
We must also look to the wisdom of the past, studying the teachings and discoveries of the great scientists and philosophers who have come before us. Their insights and perspectives can provide valuable guidance as we continue to explore the universe.
Ultimately, understanding the nature of our universe is not just about acquiring knowledge, but about discovering the beauty and wonder that exists all around us. It is about connecting with something greater than ourselves, and finding meaning and purpose in the world. It is a journey of discovery, one that will take us to the furthest reaches of space and time, and one that will continue to captivate and inspire us for generations to come.
Becoming a psychologist has been a lifelong dream of mine. The human mind and behavior have always fascinated me, and I have always been drawn to the idea of helping others through understanding their thoughts and emotions. I have spent years studying the field, immersing myself in the research and theories that shape our understanding of the mind and behavior.
I believe that psychology has the power to change lives, and I am passionate about using my knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on the world. I am excited to continue my education and training, and to one day work with patients to help them achieve their full potential and live a fulfilling life. I am confident that my dedication and passion will make me a successful psychologist, and I look forward to the journey ahead.
Cat Zingano Overcoming Loss Scholarship
The loss of a close family member or loved one is never easy, and the pain and grief can be overwhelming. For me, the loss of my grandfather, who was a father figure to me, was a turning point in my life. It taught me to focus on what matters most in life and to fight for the things that are truly important.
My grandfather was an incredibly wise and kind-hearted man. He taught me so many things during the time we spent together, and I will always be grateful for the lessons he imparted to me. One of the most important qualities that I value in myself is my ability to empathize. This is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others, and to see the world from their perspective. For me, empathy is not just a trait, it's a way of being. It's the core of who I am and it's what makes me a better person.
I value empathy because it allows me to connect with others on a deep and meaningful level. It helps me to understand their struggles, their joys, and their hopes. It allows me to be a good listener, to offer support and encouragement, and to be a true friend. It also allows me to be more compassionate and understanding, even in difficult situations.
Empathy is also an essential quality for building strong relationships, both personally and professionally. It allows me to communicate effectively, to collaborate with others, and to build trust. It also helps me to be a better leader, as it allows me to understand and respond to the needs of my team members.
But, perhaps most importantly, empathy helps me to be a better person. It allows me to be kind, to be selfless, and to be generous. It helps me to put myself in other people's shoes and to act with compassion and understanding. It allows me to be the best version of myself.
In my life journey, I see empathy as a guiding principle that will help me to navigate the world with grace and compassion. It will help me to build strong and meaningful relationships, to be a better leader, and to make a positive impact in the world. I feel that empathy is not only a powerful tool, but a moral compass that will guide me to live a life filled with compassion and understanding.
My ability to empathize has also played a significant role in my decision to pursue a career as a psychologist. As a psychologist, I will have the opportunity to help people navigate their emotions and understand their thoughts and behaviors. Walking In Authority International Ministry Scholarship
As a girl scout, I was first inspired to get involved in my community by the organization's mission to empower girls and young women to become leaders and agents of change. I was struck by the idea that I, as a young person, could make a difference in the world and that small acts of kindness can have a big impact. Through participating in community service projects, I learned the importance of giving back and the impact that small acts of kindness can have on those around me.
As an honors student, I also strive to be a positive influence in my community. I believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for creating change, and I work to promote the importance of education in my community through volunteering and mentoring younger students. As a person who is deeply committed to making a positive impact in the community, I have always been drawn to working with both young people and elders. I believe that by understanding and catering to the unique needs of both age groups, we can promote intergenerational understanding and bridge the gap between different generations.
I have also been volunteering at Inspirica, a social service organization in Stamford. I have been deeply moved by the work that they do to help people in need in the community and I felt that I wanted to contribute in my own way. I have been involved in programs such as Toys for Tots, where I have been able to help bring joy to children during the holiday season and make a meaningful difference in their lives. Volunteering at Inspirica has also allowed me to gain insight into the needs of the community and to connect with other compassionate people who share my desire to make a positive impact.
As a cheerleading captain, I also have an opportunity to be a leader in my community. I work to promote school spirit and positivity, and encourage my teammates to also get involved in community service projects and volunteer opportunities. I think that being a cheerleader is a great way to bring people together and to promote a sense of community. I also believe that it is important to give back to the community that supports us, so I also encourage my teammates to volunteer and get involved in community service projects.
Overall, my experiences as a girl scout, honors student, and cheerleading captain have all inspired me to be actively engaged in my community and to use my skills and leadership to make a positive impact.
