As a first-generation student, my parents came to this country as immigrants. Although they have been able to succeed more than others have, their opportunities have always been limited. My mother worked as a housekeeper until she had me and my brother, and my father has worked as truck driver for as long as I can remember. They have both worked as hard as possible and given up many luxuries so that I and my brother could have the best childhood we could ever have. Although I lived unaware of our financial difficulties, they became more evident as I grew up, specifically throughout my senior year. As the economy has been declining, so has my father's work. With fewer and fewer goods to transport across the country, my father has been struggling to make ends meet as he has been underpaid and out of work most of the time. Especially because he knows my college is coming up, he has been working his hardest to try to bring in as much money as possible to save up for college, but it has been impossible for my family to save anything up. With the help of this scholarship, I would not have to take out any loans to pay for college and my family would be able to relax a lot more. Furthermore, my brother will also begin college in a couple of years, and with one sole income, it would be impossible to pay for both colleges. I have always wanted to go to college, and it has always been my mother’s dream to watch me graduate from college. Still, she also doesn’t want me to come out of college with tons of money owed in loans or my overworked father unable to enjoy my graduation because of how hard he has labored to pay for my college. Not only would this scholarship help me achieve my goal of going to college, but it would fulfill my immigrant mothers and fathers as well to be the first in the family to graduate from college. Through an internship, I have discovered a passion for giving back to communities. I hope to improve the way major corporations give back to communities, not just on a broader level, but where people can create close interpersonal relationships with those in need. To do this, a great business education would help me be able to impact the way our society and large businesses look at giving back to communities. At Bryn Mawr where I will be attending starting in the Fall of 2023, I will be able to take my major classes at the University of Pennsylvania, which has the best business program in the United States and in most of the world, if not all. Having the best financial and business background possible is vital to helping me contribute to the communities that gave so much back to me. Not only this but taking my major classes at UPenn would open the door for me to many jobs with the biggest impact. Because of this, I have decided to pursue my future by attending college at a university and learning the skills to help me reach my goals of impacting the way major corporations give back to communities on an interpersonal level.

Ever since I was little, I have always been a participant at Family Point Resources. FPR is a community center that focuses on creating opportunities for children in a lower socio-economic bracket through arts and educational enrichment opportunities. When I was little, I participated in daytime summer camps that focused on math, reading, and creative projects such as paper maché piñatas. During middle school, I began volunteering as a counselor in the same summer camps I participated in as a child. I continued volunteering at the camps throughout high school as a counselor in addition to tutoring and playing with the kids. This year, my senior year of high school, I have attained an internship with Family Point. My main focus has been helping 5th graders with focus time, providing kids with enrichment opportunities through play-learning, and creating new clubs. One of my main responsibilities with Family Point is to create a legacy club to leave behind so a kid can continue the club next year. I have done this through “The beads and Bracelets Club.” Through this club, kids spark creativity while learning to create different kinds of bracelets such as paracord bracelets, keychains, and friendship bracelets. Apart from creating bracelets, BBC also provides kids with somewhere to go after school. After being an intern there for almost a year, I have allowed myself to get a better look at communities and the impact I can create within them. Through this experience, I have discovered a passion for giving back to communities. I hope to improve the way major corporations give back to communities, not just on a broader level, but where people can create close interpersonal relationships with those in need. Being in middle school and in elementary school, I remember making my wallpaper and screensaver these images with inspirational quotes on them. I never really paid them much attention. However, as I grew older, I found that one quote stayed with me and really helped motivate me during tough times. The quote is "If the plan doesn't work, change the plan, but never the goal." I believe I have very specific goals I want to reach in my life. One of them is that I want to attend UT. Because of this, I strive very hard to get really good grades. However, this is more difficult than just speaking it into existence. Especially with CVOID. During this past year, both of my parents have gone to work, while I have had to stay at home taking care of my 80-year-old grandpa and my 13-year-old brother. Because of this, it was difficult to manage everything and still have good grades. Not to mention the fact that I had a very demanding boyfriend of 7 months who required my attention 24/7 or he would throw a fit. Getting good grades while having an overly complicated personal life is hard, and many times I had to change the way I dealt with things and managed my time. I would change my plan so many times to see what worked best. Sometimes I would wake up early to try and see if it helped, or I would go to sleep super late in an effort to get everything done. I had to revise my schedule from before to find time to attend my online classes, do my work, make food, feed my grandpa, clean up a little, and make sure my brother was staying out of trouble and doing his work. I also had trouble finding motivating and reaching hard for my goals.. I would often tell myself "This is good enough" when it wasn't or say "I can't understand what the purpose of doing this is" when the purpose was to help me reach my goals. There were many times I felt like quitting because I couldn't handle it. However, remembering that quote helped me regain my focus and start over. Also, not only did the quote remind me that it was okay to change things up and not always stick with the original plan, but t also reminded me that I had an end goal in mind and that I needed to work hard for it, not just conform to that bare minimum. As a result, this year I manage to pass all my classes with A's and get a 5.0 GPA for this year, but I also was told that I was top 6% of my class. When I realized how great of a job I had done, I felt as if all my hard work had finally paid off, and I was so close to reaching my goals, because of that quote, which kept me motivated when nothing else did.

Growing up in the United States has been a hard experience for a female Hispanic. Even after being born here in the US, it is hard to be taken seriously. I experienced prejudice, hate, racism, and defeat. However, through my parent's example, I was able to overcome all those situations and focus on my future. Growing up, my dad wasn't around much as I hoped he would be. Going to school and seeing the "Father-Daughter Dance" would come up I would beg my dad to stay home and go to the dance with me. He would always end up choosing to work then go to the dance. Being young, I didn't see his efforts to give us a better life than the one he had, I just felt ashamed that my dad wasn't a cool engineer or doctor like the other dads. However, as I grew up I realized the hard life he had lived as a kid, and how he was just trying to prevent us from living that same life, but that feeling of embarrassment that he wasn't like the other dad's still lingered. My mom, on the other hand, stopped working when I and my brother were born. She became focused on raising us and giving us the life she never had. In my younger years, I worshipped my mom. She focused solely on us and making sure we grew up right. She took us on trips to anywhere she could take us. As I grew up more, it became insufficient for me. I saw the luxuries others had and wanted that. What my mom offered me was no longer enough. Entering middle school, the sentiment only increased. Others were able to go out, their parents not caring about anything they did. My mom cared, and I hated her for it. I wanted to be like everyone else and was ashamed of my heritage and parents. However, throughout my freshman year, and throughout COVID, I grew closer to my parents and realized everything they had done for me. Although other parents were always dressed nice or attending fancy dinners, my parents had sacrificed that so that me and my brother could succeed. My parents came without a dollar in their pocket and were able to have enough for anything we needed. They taught me the value of money, school, and my future, My parents inspired me to graduate college, start my own business, and rise up in life. Now, I look to start my own business. I plan to invest in the stock market and have many real estate properties available to rent out and sell. Not only do I want to be successful in my own life, but I also hope to inspire others to embrace their culture. Although I'm unsure about what business I want to open, I know that I want to inspire others through it and make a difference. I plan to be successful and motivate others to do the same
