Security is the first word that comes to mind when I think of my major, protecting what is important and valued by others. Cybercrime is an invisible threat that affects countless people daily. Two thousand two hundred twenty cyber-attacks occur every day, which is often unnoticed by the average person. While the average person may overlook the importance of cybersecurity, specialists like me are dedicated to protecting sensitive information and ensuring digital safety. I am inspired by the challenge of identifying and solving problems, and I find fulfillment in knowing my work can safeguard others. My fascination with how attacks and infiltrations occur, as well as the technologies used to prevent them, sparked my desire to pursue cybersecurity. Growing up, my mother emphasized the value of education and hard work. I did not fully appreciate the importance of my mother’s advice, but as I matured, her story became my inspiration. She immigrated from the Dominican Republic to a country she had never been to, navigating a language she didn’t understand. Despite these challenges and language barriers, she was determined to provide me with opportunities she never had. My mother stayed up late helping me with homework, even when she didn’t understand the material herself. Through her tireless support, she taught me that it doesn't matter what country or corner of the world we are in, education is a privilege and we should take full advantage of it, and with effort, anything is possible. Reflecting on all her sacrifices, I realized I was fortunate to have access to opportunities she fought to provide. Her resilience and insistence on the importance of education motivated me to pursue a career where I could make a meaningful impact. This led me to explore fields that combined my love of problem-solving, investigation, and protecting others. My research eventually brought me to cybersecurity, a perfect match for my interests and values. After earning my degree, I plan to join the United States Air Force as a Cybersecurity Specialist. The Air Force will provide me with the discipline, integrity, and real-world experience necessary to be an honest and honorable member of society. I look forward to working in high-stakes environments where my skills will directly contribute to protecting critical systems and national security. Beyond my military service, I plan to pursue advanced education to stay ahead of emerging threats. The cyber world is growing daily, and there is always something new to learn. My ultimate goal is to protect what is valued by others and contribute to the safety of our fast-growing digital world. Cybersecurity offers the perfect intersection of my skills, values, and passions. It is my opportunity to protect what matters most while honoring the sacrifices of those who supported me. Through my education, service in the Air Force, and commitment to lifelong learning, I am determined to make a lasting impact on the security of our interconnected world. With discipline, dedication, and knowledge, I will help create a safer digital future for generations to come.
