I am always asked where I will be in 10 years. To be honest, I don't really know. Nobody really knows, but where do I want myself to be? I want myself to have a happy family and play football for a living, or even be a state trooper. Is that where I'll be? I don't know. Life is about taking time and not rushing through. Growing up as a military child my life consisted mainly of moving, which when others think about it, they think it's such a short time, but it really is a long time. I met tons of people and experienced wonderful new things.
Now why would I want to be a football player? Well, I have loved the sport since I was young. My mother would dress me in cowboy boots and a beanie, in which I grew with it. I would always remember arguing with my poppy saying “oh my cowboys are gonna beat those giants” and in return he would chuckle because of how young I was. Now since I have grown, I have included it in my everyday life. I eat for it, I maintain a certain physic for it, and I realized when I was that little kid arguing with his poppy that this is what I want my life to be.
You might also be wondering about why a state trooper? Along with football I have loved the thought of serving and protecting the people I love. Since I was young, it started when my dad returned from his first deployment. I was a little boy waiting for my ole man to get back home and every time I saw him in his uniform I would always think he is a real life hero. Not the ones in the comic books or in the movies, he was my real life superhero and I want my kids to see me the way I saw my dad. I want to be there for them and I want to be their real life superhero.
From my thoughts on becoming a football star to following in my dad's footsteps, it has all been connected to being raised in a military family. Without me starting in soccer, then slowly progressing to different sports, which led to figuring out that football was my main sport of interest, as well as if I didn’t experience my dad being in the military and sparking that image of a superhero for me, my dreams would not be the same. Being a military child created who I am. I learned my biggest lesson from individuals I interacted with and the experiences I had while being a military child. It created bonds that will last a lifetime and let me see all of the different and unique types of people. Most importantly what it has done for me though, would be helping me determine where I WANT TO BE in 10 years and it never determined where I was going to be.
