Hello, my name is Allan Bellevue. I'm a 19 year old sophomore that currently attends the UMass Amherst. When most people see me on campus they see a tall, quiet, durag-wearing Black male that runs track and field. However, what they don't know is that I am a first generation college student and I take my academics very seriously. Being the son of two Haitian immigrants has taught me the meaning of working hard. My parents have been my biggest supporters throughout all these years both academically and athletically. They both work two jobs to make ends meet for me and my two sisters, but despite all that they fall short sometimes. I want to repay them in the future for all they have done for me. My goal in life are to become of an Athletic Trainer. It is a mix a two of my biggest interests: healthcare and sports. I also want to be an entrepreneur, while also giving back and having a positive impact on my community. I believe in myself and although it won't be easy, I will accomplish these goals.

Healthy Living Scholarship
A healthy lifestyle is important to me because sports are a very important part of my life and I believe that staying healthy and participating in physical activity is a great way to improve quality of life and learn different skills. My love and success with track and field is what inspired me to coach younger generations for a nonprofit organization called Brockton Track Club. I get to interact with the kids and help them become the best track athletes they can be, while also putting a smile on their faces. I will admit that it takes a lot of patience and leadership, but I am doing something that I’ve been interested in since a young boy: helping others. Because of my interest in health in fitness I want to enter the field of sports medicine or sports science and become a physical therapy or a strength and conditioning coach.

When I was younger I wanted to be a Surgeon, then I wanted to be a Physical Therapist, then a Pediatrician, then Anesthesiologist, and then a Physician. It wasn't until I got into highschool that I finally realized that I was meant to be an Athletic Trainer. It was a combination of two things that I loved: sports and healthcare. My interests remained in the healthcare field and I found a way to combine both of my passions.

The same characteristics that pushed me to excel in my athletics was the same traits that pushed me academically. My academic achievements and extracurricular activities are very meaningful things to me. I was honored to be a Peer Tutor at my high school and also be a part of National Honors Society. On top of this, I was able to end high school with a 4.265. These achievements have allowed me to get accepted to some of the best colleges in the nation and carry my determination to succeed academically.
My parents have been my biggest supporters throughout all these years. They both work two jobs to make ends meet, but despite all that they fall short sometimes. Sometimes they have to choose between paying for a bill for the house, cars, credit cards, or my expenses for school. They always choose my academics before anything. They always tell me the reason they do all this is so that I can live a simple life and not have to struggle as much as they do. They are not home a lot, but me and my two sisters know that it is because they want the best for us and they will do whatever it takes to ensure our success. I don’t want to have to see my parents struggle anymore. I don't want to have to see my mom put on a fake smile and have to act like she is okay when in reality I know she has a lot of stress on her hands. I do not want to let all their past, present and future expenses go to waste. My goal is to create generational wealth for my children and live the life that my parents always wanted for me. On top of this I want to have an impact and help others. This is why I am determined to excel in college and would be extremely honored to receive your scholarship.
Impact Scholarship for Black Students
A fire truck, an ambulance, the frantic voices of my mother and aunt. These are the sounds that I heard that day. This was the day when my grandmother had a stroke. I was eight-years-old when this happened. After that day, seeing how my grandmother was ill, and how my mother and aunt were distraught, I made the decision that I wanted to help people in any way that I could. Whether it is helping them feel better or caring for them, I wanted to help. I wanted to be just like the EMTs that came to the house that day. They not only comforted my grandmother who was in the stretcher, they also tried to comfort my aunt and mother. They reassured them that my grandmother would be okay. The events that occurred that day fueled my interest in the public health and medical field while also solidifying my passion for aiding others.
Throughout the years, after this event, I have switched specifically what I want to do in the medical field. When I was younger I wanted to be a Surgeon, then I wanted to be a Physical Therapist, then a Pediatrician, then Anesthesiologist, and then a Physician. It wasn't until I got into highschool that I finally realized that I was meant to be an Athletic Trainer. It was a combination of two things that I loved: sports and health. My interests remained in the healthcare field and I found a way to combine both of my passions.
Sports have always been a consistent part of my life. Basketball was my first love, but track and field became my true love. I played basketball up until my sophomore year of high school. This was also the year that I was introduced to track. At first I wanted to quit, but my coaches believed that I could become one of the best high jumpers in the state. After a lot of hard work I was made an official captain my senior year. I finished 3rd in Division I and finished 6th in the state of Massachusetts. This helped me earn recognition from colleges and earn a spot on the UMass Amherst track team. Being an athlete has helped confirm my interest in athletic training. I go in the training office almost every week and just observe and watch how they treat me or other athletes. I even learn some things while I am in there also. in my junior year I plan on being an intern in the office so that I can get hands on experience.
The same characteristics that pushed me to excel in my athletics was the same traits that pushed me and motivated me to increase my knowledge. My pursuit for excellence in my academics as well as athletics is what makes me a student athlete, but as far as this goes, academics come first. My academic achievements and extracurricular activities are very meaningful things to me. I was honored to be a Peer Tutor at my high school and also be a part of National Honors Society. On top of this, I was able to maintain a GPA of 4.0. These achievements have allowed me to get accepted to some of the best colleges in the nation and I intended to take my determination to succeed academically with me into college. Not only am I still doing track and field in college, but I am also a part of two Student Unions on campus: one for students of color and another one specifically for student athletes of color. I love being a part of these groups because it creates a sense of community and unity especially when our school is a PWI.
My parents have been my biggest supporters throughout all these years. They both work two jobs to make ends meet, but despite all that they fall short sometimes. I try my best to help out with the three jobs that I have worked. Sometimes they have to choose between paying for a bill for the house, cars, credit cards, or my expenses for school. They always choose my academics before anything. They always tell me the reason they do all this is so that I can live a simple life and not have to struggle as much as they do.
