Growing up in rural Idaho I have found many different perspectives that have sparked my interest for a well rounded career. The most prevalent, however, is Veterinary Medicine. This field fulfills many of my long term goals as an individual and it will allow me to work with animals. Veterinary Medicine will not only help me obtain my personal goals academically, but it will also allow me to commit to my own personal interests. Over the past several years I have worked hard to attain this goal. I am a Certified Veterinary Assistant and I plan to major in Animal Sciences at WSU next year. In the past year, I have had the opportunity to work at a veterinary clinic in order to gain practical experience. This has helped me see what a veterinarian does on a daily basis and it has given me a better understanding of the field as a whole. During this time, I was also able to earn my veterinary assisting certification which will be very beneficial to my career. Overall, I have gained a great amount of knowledge from this position and it has only reinforced my motivation to become a veterinarian. In terms of education, I plan to obtain my undergraduate degree from Washington State University in Animal Sciences. Once I complete my undergrad, I will apply to Veterinary School. After I graduate Veterinary School I plan to continue my education and specialize in Equine Medicine. I want to specialize in this field because it directly correlates with my interests, and it would be an additional step to strengthen my knowledge as a professional. A goal that I would like to accomplish as a veterinarian is giving back to the community that I work for. I want to create a system in order to provide assistance to owners that cannot financially afford healthcare for their patients. This goal is important to me because it will allow me to use my resources to promote the overall health of pets in the place I live. In total, I am very excited to complete the next steps in order to achieve my professional goals. I know that there will be a great number of obstacles that I face, however, I know that each will teach me something that will be beneficial to my career. I want to be known in the veterinary industry for the quality of service that I provide and I wish to establish a connection with each client and patient I treat.
