Bio

I currently work at a mass tort litigation firm where I assist plaintiffs, most of whom are members of the Hispanic community. The anguish on their faces as they seek justice against powerful corporations is a sight I see often. It is my honor to assist in their quest for justice. During my legal clerkship, I am actively assisting mass torts clients who have developed cancer from using Roundup pesticides manufactured by Monsanto. A client that stood out to me was turned away by another firm due to his language barrier. As the sole Spanish speaker, I am assisting in every step of his litigation. Similarly, a Hispanic family sought our help against a School District for their daughter’s assault. Understanding their desperation for justice, I am assisting in their litigation. These experiences reaffirm my commitment to empowering our community by becoming an attorney capable of navigating complex issues, particularly in Federal courts. I would be deeply honored to be considered for the scholarship because it represents more than just financial support, it fuels my determination to succeed against diversity. This scholarship would not only alleviate some of the financial burdens of my education, but also enable me to make a significant impact in a field where Latina lawyers are underrepresented.

We all have a childhood memory of our favorite games—mine was jumping rope with my classmates. However, at thirteen, my life took a dramatic turn when my family faced extortion and terror from a violent gang. After enduring threats and violence, we fled to seek safety in the United States, only to face further hardship when ICE separated us for six months. These traumatic experiences led to my diagnosis of chronic PTSD. The hardships I experienced have not held me back but rather inspired me to persevere and pursue a legal career. I vividly remember being laughed at for not understanding English. Rather than allowing the humiliation to pull me down, I chose to strive harder. A milestone in my journey was being the first in my family to earn a bachelor’s degree and a paralegal certificate while working and competing for a nationally ranked academic team that placed in the top 25. As an immigrant, I am no stranger to discrimination, injustice, and hate. Although these experiences made me aware of the struggles faced by others like me, they have also taught me the power of advocacy. Understanding their desperation for justice, I am assisting in their litigation and arranging visits with a therapist who specializes in trauma to support their emotional well-being, with all costs being put on a lien.
