I currently work at a mass tort litigation firm where I assist plaintiffs, most of whom are members of the Hispanic community. The anguish on their faces as they seek justice against powerful corporations is a sight I see often. It is my honor to assist in their quest for justice. During my legal clerkship, I am actively assisting mass tort clients who have developed cancer from using Roundup pesticides manufactured by Monsanto. A client that stood out to me was turned away by another firm due to his language barrier. As the sole Spanish speaker, I am assisting in every step of his litigation. Similarly, a Hispanic family sought our help against a school district for their daughter’s assault. Understanding their desperation for justice, I am assisting in their litigation and arranging visits with a therapist who specializes in trauma to support their emotional well-being, with all costs being put on a lien. Through the legal field, I am not only able to assist people with their legal issues, but I am also enabling their access to mental health support. These experiences reaffirm my commitment to empowering our community by becoming an attorney capable of navigating complex legal issues, particularly in Federal courts.
