I am a rising senior at Northern Nash high school in Rocky Mount, NC. Along with maintaining a 3.60 GPA I also have worked at a pet boarding business (Paws Inn), participated in Girl Scouts for the last 11 years, danced ballet, jazz, tap, pointe, and technique since I was three, and I am a current member of the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS), the National Honor Society (NHS)program and the National Art Honor Society (NAHS). During my freshmen year, I also participated in the Air Force JROTC program and completed additional volunteer hours at a fire station, during a food drive, and assisted in doing sidewalk chalk murals for cancer patients. Even after completing the required volunteer hours, I continued to visit weekly the local food bank (Touch of My Father’s Love). As a girl scout, I assisted with mentoring the younger members (brownies/daisies/juniors) with projects and of course with setting up and selling our famous girl scout cookies.

I have always enjoyed drawing and all of my family, friends, and teachers have praised my ability throughout my educational journey. I recently completed a wall mural at my high school of a dragon. Several staff and students have complimented me on this project. I hope that this mural will be my legacy to promote my artistic ability and to show my school pride. I have participated in dual enrollment for the past 2 years as a student at Northern Nash High School as well as Nash Community College. The courses that I have completed can go towards my bachelor's degree and shorten my time at a college or university. My goal is to have my bachelor's degree at the age of 20 and a master's degree by the time I am 22. I hope to work with my brother and eventually partner with him to open our own company in a metropolitan area ( Rhode Island or New York). People are naturally drawn to beautiful things, and I hope that I can bring beauty to the world and make it a better place to work, live and love one another.

Graduating Senior 2023
I plan to attend a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor of art degree
in Graphics Design with a minor in Visual Arts or Art History. After completing my
bachelor's degree, I plan to continue my education and acquire a master's degree in
graphics design and business. My mother and I traveled for the past two summers to
college campuses. Last summer we visited Western Carolina, the University of North
Carolina in Charlotte, and Montreat College. This year we went to the University of North
Carolina in Chapel Hill (Project Uplift), Brown University (Providence, RI), Rhode Island
School of Design (RISD), and Furman University (Columbia, SC). We completed a campus
tour, had a meet-and-greet with alumni, and had a question-and-answer session with
current students. After visiting all of these colleges and universities, I have three colleges
and universities that I feel are best suited for my bachelor of art degree.
My first choice would be the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). This school
allows me to pursue my degree at a school that specializes in what I want to do in the
future. As a graphics design major at RISD, I can also have dual enrollment at Brown
University. Courses that I may want to take at Brown university that are not offered at
RISD are available to me for no additional cost. I will have access to an internship and
possibly be commissioned for murals on the buildings in the downtown Providence area.
Both schools have an active study abroad program that allows students a semester to travel
out of the country to receive hands-on experience in their specific degree area. Most
programs I’ve researched have at least one semester where the students study abroad
(Korea, Japan, Australia, etc…) to have hands-on experience in their field of study. This
sounds great in theory but can cost a minimum of $5,000. I know that having this
experience on my resume could really increase my chances of getting an excellent position
at a prestigious design firm.

Bold Science Matters Scholarship
Have you ever traveled to a large city like NY or LA? Well if you have, then I know that you've seen my favorite scientific discovery . Yes, its the traffic light invented by Garrett Morgan. This scientific discovery became my favorite when I visited by half brother in New York during Spring Break. This is truly the city that never sleeps, but I want to sometimes.
While visiting we went to several shows, did lots of shopping, visited his auto club and dined at several of his favorite local restaurants. The trip was great minus the unbelievable traffic throughout the day and night. We were going to see Wicked on Broadway and it was literally 3 blocks away and it took our Uber 35 minutes to travel about a mile and half. This caused us to plan strategically around the time of the day and where we were going. The traffic lights were long and several people intentionally zoomed right through. I was a very nervous traveling at first, but eventually I could almost tell which traffic pattern was the best.
I can't imagine traveling to such a high populated area without traffic lights. These light save people from trying to make their own decision about who has the right of way. This traffic light saves lives and keeps so many people safe Of course this is just my opinion and I/m sure that someone else would disagree completely, Without this scientific discovery, trains could our primary mode of transportation.
