Ward Green Scholarship for the Arts & Sciences
As I embark on my academic journey, I am committed to pursuing my studies with dedication, diligence, and a thirst for knowledge, particularly in the field of nursing. With a strong passion for healthcare and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others, I have set my sights on becoming a nurse. My study plan is centered around acquiring the knowledge, skills, and expertise necessary to excel in the nursing profession and address pressing healthcare issues within my community and beyond. Through a combination of structured learning, active engagement, and hands-on experience, I am confident that I can achieve my goal of becoming a nurse and using my education to benefit my community at large.
One component of my study plan entails developing an organized timetable that helps me manage my academic responsibilities with other obligations and activities. By scheduling allocated blocks of time each day for studying, attending courses, and completing projects, I can stay organized and on track with my studies. Furthermore, I want to use a variety of tools and resources, including textbooks, online tutorials, and study groups, to improve my grasp of course topics and reinforce essential ideas. Furthermore, I feel that active learning and hands-on experience may help me better comprehend complicated subjects. Whether it's performing research, participating in laboratory experiments, or engaging in practical applications of theoretical knowledge, I'm excited to immerse myself in experiential learning experiences that allow me to apply what I've learned in real-world situations. In addition to academic brilliance, I plan to apply what I've learned to improve my community as a whole. As a nursing student, I am enthusiastic about making a difference in the lives of people and improving the well-being of my community. Through my studies, I hope to develop the information, skills, and expertise required to solve major healthcare concerns and enhance access to excellent treatment for underprivileged communities. One way I want to give back to my community is to donate my time and skills to providing healthcare services to people in need. Whether it's through medical missions, volunteering at local clinics, or providing health education seminars, I'm dedicated to using my nursing expertise to promote health and wellbeing and address healthcare inequities in our community. Furthermore, I see myself pushing for legislative reforms and initiatives that advance health equity and social justice. By using my healthcare knowledge and skills, I intend to influence politicians, raise awareness about critical healthcare challenges, and fight for policies that prioritize the needs of underrepresented and vulnerable people.
To summarize, my study plan combines organized learning, active involvement, and hands-on experience to maximize my academic ability and attain my objectives. Furthermore, I intend to apply what I've learned to help my community as a whole by providing healthcare services, lobbying for legislative reforms, and promoting health equality and social justice. As I continue my academic path, I am enthused about the opportunity to positively affect and contribute to the well-being of those in my community.
“The Office” Obsessed! Fan Scholarship
As a fan of "The Office," I have found myself emotionally connecting with the character of Erin Hannon, played by the wonderful actress Ellie Kemper. Erin's character has attributes that I love and can connect to, making her my favorite character on the program.
One of the key reasons I connect with Erin is her positive and happy nature. Despite encountering countless hardships and failures, Erin maintains a good attitude about life and confronts each circumstance with excitement and hope. Her upbeat manner and contagious grin often lift the spirits, and her ability to find joy in even the most routine duties is appealing and relatable. I love Erin's generosity and care for others. She sincerely cares about her coworkers' well-being and goes out of her way to help and encourage them whenever she can. Erin frequently exhibits empathy and compassion in her relationships with others, whether by consoling a worried coworker or providing a helpful hand. Erin's journey of self-discovery and personal growth throughout the series speaks to me on a profound level. Like Erin, I have had periods of uncertainty and self-doubt in my life, but I have also had times of development and self-discovery. Watching Erin go through life's ups and downs and eventually emerge stronger and more confident has been both motivating and uplifting for me. "The Office" has had a huge influence on both my sense of humor and my outlook on workplace interactions. The show's mockumentary structure, paired with its unique characters and sharp comedy, has had an impact on my sense of humor and humorous sensibility. I'm drawn to the show's dry wit and subtle gags, and I frequently quote lines and recall notable events from the series. Furthermore, "The Office" has given me excellent insights into office dynamics and culture. While the program may exaggerate certain parts of office life for humorous effect, it also provides a surprisingly accurate depiction of the difficulties and absurdities that might occur in a daily job. From coping with tough coworkers to managing office politics, "The Office" has taught me important lessons in communication, cooperation, and professionalism.
Finally, Erin Hannon is a character from "The Office" with whom I identify and admire. Her positive attitude, generosity, and path of self-discovery have had an indelible effect on me, and I am thankful for the influence she has had on my sense of humor and perspective on workplace interactions. As I continue on my own path, I will take with me the lessons and insights I've received from watching "The Office" and following Erin's remarkable character development.

Zendaya's ranged career is an inspiration to many, including myself. While there are many parts of her work that I appreciate, one stands out above the rest: her unrelenting dedication to using her platform for social action and fighting for constructive change.
Zendaya's commitment to social justice and activism is obvious in her public statements on critical subjects such as racial inequity, gender equality, and LGBTQ+ rights. She has continually utilized her activism to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and advocate for underrepresented populations. Zendaya's activism, whether it's speaking out against racial discrimination, supporting LGBTQ+ rights, or pushing for women's empowerment, goes well beyond entertainment and into the world of social change. What I respect most about Zendaya's advocacy is her honesty and sincerity. She does not avoid difficult talks or contentious issues but rather tackles them with candor, empathy, and a real desire to make a difference. Zendaya's dedication to social justice is constant and inspirational, whether she's amplifying key voices on social media, attending protests and rallies, or utilizing her power to assist humanitarian organizations. Zendaya's advocacy is a poignant reminder of the value of leveraging our platforms and privileges for good. As a celebrity, she might easily stay apolitical or focus entirely on her job, but she has decided to utilize her platform to speak out against injustice and push for good change. Her desire to use her platform for social action exemplifies the power of individuals using their voices for good.
In conclusion, while Zendaya's diversified career is outstanding in many ways, I am most impressed by her consistent dedication to social activism and fighting for good change. Her candor, sincerity, and passion for making a difference inspire me and countless others, and I appreciate the example she provides as a role model and activist.
Christina Taylese Singh Memorial Scholarship
Choosing a profession in nursing is a profoundly personal decision for me, motivated by a desire to positively touch the lives of others. From an early age, I was drawn to the area of healthcare, inspired by the caring care I experienced in my own family.
One of the primary reasons I like the idea of pursuing a career in nursing is the opportunity to work with patients who have a particular place in my heart. My aunt, who had Down syndrome, was a vital part of my life until she died at the age of 12. Despite the difficulties she experienced, she provided much joy and love to our family. Her determination and bravery left an everlasting effect on me, fueling my passion to fight for children with special needs. I am particularly interested in working with Down syndrome patients in a healthcare environment. These individuals frequently require specific care and assistance to succeed, and I am ready to provide them with the love and understanding they deserve. By drawing on my own connections and experiences, I intend to make a significant impact on the lives of people with Down syndrome and their families.
Furthermore, I am enthusiastic about working at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where I can care for preterm and severely sick babies. These small patients require round-the-clock attention and specialized care, and I am dedicated to giving them the best possible support and comfort throughout their first days of existence. My aunt's death taught me the value of cherishing every minute, and I am committed to ensuring that all NICU patients receive the care and compassion they require to grow.
Finally, my path to a nursing career is inextricably linked to my personal experiences and sincerely held beliefs. My aunt's memory, which brought so much love and joy into my life despite her struggles, is a continuing source of inspiration and drive. Her death at such a young age left an everlasting impact on my heart, instilling in me a strong desire to fight for people with special needs and give them the loving care they need. Furthermore, my enthusiasm for dealing with Down syndrome patients originates from a strong conviction in the inherent dignity and value of every human. I am motivated to create an inclusive and accepting atmosphere in which people with Down syndrome can have productive and meaningful lives. Through my nursing career, I wish to combat preconceptions and misunderstandings about Down syndrome, pushing for more knowledge and understanding within the healthcare system and society as a whole. A scholarship would help me on my path to becoming a pediatric nurse specializing in Down syndrome and neonatal intensive care units. It would relieve the financial burden of tuition and educational expenditures, allowing me to fully concentrate on my academics and clinical experiences. Furthermore, it would offer me tremendous possibilities for professional growth and development, allowing me to improve my abilities and knowledge of pediatric nursing. I am thankful for the chance to pursue my love for nursing, and I am dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of the people I serve.

As I continue my personal and academic path, I am sincerely devoted to solving a critical societal issue that is extremely important to me. Drawing on my volunteer and community service experiences, I am actively striving to eliminate the stigma and misunderstandings associated with people who have Down syndrome.
My work with children with Down syndrome has given me important insights into the issues and hurdles they experience in society. Through my experiences with these people, I've learned the value of fostering acceptance, inclusion, and advocacy for persons with special needs. I am extremely committed to promoting awareness and creating a more inclusive and friendly environment for people with Down syndrome, where they are appreciated and respected for their distinctive strengths and accomplishments. One way I'm addressing this societal issue is by actively interacting with my community to raise awareness and understanding of Down syndrome. Whether it's via awareness campaigns, educational seminars, or community events, I'm committed to breaking preconceptions and creating a more positive and inclusive story about Down syndrome. By sharing personal stories, giving tools, and promoting open discourse, I seek to remove myths and preconceptions while also encouraging more empathy and inclusion in my community. In addition, I am dedicated to campaigning for laws and programs that advance the rights and well-being of people with Down syndrome. Through grassroots activity, lobbying, and partnerships with advocacy organizations, I am striving to guarantee that people with Down syndrome have equal access to school, healthcare, employment, and social opportunities. By raising their voices and campaigning for their rights, I hope to build a more fair and equal society in which all people, regardless of ability, may grow and prosper. I'm using my studies in nursing to help people with Down syndrome receive comprehensive treatment and support. Through my education, I am obtaining the information and abilities required to offer compassionate and culturally competent care to people with a variety of needs. By pushing for patient-centered treatment and supporting a strengths-based approach, I wish to help people with Down syndrome have satisfying and meaningful lives.
To summarize, addressing the social issue of stigma and misinformation about people with Down syndrome is highly personal and meaningful work for me. Through volunteer work, community participation, advocacy activities, and academic interests, I strive diligently to promote acceptance, inclusion, and empowerment for people with Down syndrome. By raising awareness, fighting for their rights, and providing compassionate treatment, I hope to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society in which all people are appreciated and respected for who they are. While I am committed to tackling the societal issue of stigma around people with Down syndrome, pursuing a profession in nursing and expanding my advocacy work will need significant money. A scholarship would be extremely beneficial in supporting my academic career and allowing me to attain my goals. With financial aid, I could concentrate on my education and community work without worrying about tuition. This would allow me to devote more time and effort to learning the skills required to offer compassionate care and advocate for the rights of people with various needs. Ultimately, a scholarship would allow me to have a significant effect on healthcare and social justice.

This would allow me to devote more time and energy to making a good difference in my community, whether by volunteering at local clinics, organizing health education programs, or advocating for marginalized groups. GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
As the first chords of Olivia Rodrigo's "Guts" wash over me, I'm immediately drawn to the genuine anguish in her voice. Her words contain a vulnerability that strikes a chord deep inside my soul, luring me in with each heartbreaking song. The way she expresses her loss and anguish is both painful and therapeutic, like a salve to my wounded spirit. And when she sings, "And then, you kissed some girl from high school," it's as if she's speaking straight to me, aware of the depths of my own sadness. Despite the tears that build up in my eyes, I can't help but be grateful for this song, for guiding me over the turbulent waters of love and sorrow.
I remember when my boyfriend, who is now my ex, went away to college while I stayed at a local university. During his first month away, all he seemed to do was drink, smoke, and hang out with his new friends, which included a particular group of girls from our high school. It felt like he was drifting away from me, leaving me feeling lost and abandoned.
He admitted to kissing one of those females, which crushed me. I spent days in bed, unable to eat or sleep, obsessed with pain and betrayal. The words "And I stayed in bed for, like, a week" powerfully capture the sense of being unable to work and immobilized by agony.
I attempted to give him the distance he claimed he required, but it simply left me sitting by my phone, looking for a sign that he still cared. In the end, it meant nothing. Love may be unpleasant and humiliating when it is not reciprocated or betrayed.
Listening to Olivia Rodrigo's song has felt like healing for me. Her real emotion and honesty remind me that I am not alone in my grief, and that others have felt the same way. So, I would want to thank her for guiding me through this difficult, soul-crushing moment. Her music has been a lifeline, a reminder that I will endure this heartbreak and come out stronger on the other side.
As I listen to Olivia Rodrigo's "Guts," I can't help but admire the timing of it all. It's difficult to think that just a few months ago, on September 8th, 2023, I was dealing with the painful consequences of betrayal and heartache. And yet, here I am, finding peace in the album's words, feeling a sense of healing wash over me with each song. The fact that this record was released on that particular date seems like more than a coincidence; it seems like a sign. A sign that it is time for me to let go of the grief and accept the prospect of moving on. I'm immensely grateful for Olivia Rodrigo's music and how it has helped me get through some of my worst times. There couldn't have been a better or more relevant reminder that it's acceptable to let go and start again.

My understanding of the value of patience and adaptation in healthcare has been greatly influenced by the unpredictable nature of Alzheimer's disease, which robs people of their memories and freedom. My motivation to improve the lives of those dealing with health problems was sparked by the difficulties my grandparents had to endure. I'm moved greatly by the idea of becoming a guiding force for others when they're vulnerable and uncertain. By providing patient-centered treatment that puts not just the patient's physical well-being but also their emotional and psychological needs first, I hope to help the healthcare system get better. Nursing, the one job everyone says that is so fulling, and will change your perspective on the world forever. I wanted to be a nurse since the time I was 10 years old, because I saw what they do for others every day. Becoming a nurse was so important to me because, I wanted to do something in my career that is interesting, challenging, and makes a difference in people's lives on a daily basis. The one person who always told me I can do whatever I wanted in life was my mom. My mom was my number one supporter, and always told everyone how excited she was for me to fulfill my dreams of becoming a nurse. My mom would always tell me “Alexis all your dreams can come true if you just believe in your self”. The days I questioned myself, and thought to myself is nursing really for me, I always thought of those exact words. By just showing that little bit of love and compassion towards someone, shows you are there for them throughout their journey. I personally feel when working with someone, you grow a tight bond that you nor your patient will ever forget. You’re the person who comes in that room every day, administer their medicine, and gives them the comfort they need. Their lives are in your hands, so make every word and action count because you never know when their last breath will be. Being a nurse is very challenging and comes with everyday obstacles. An ordinary day of a nurse is filled with enduring hours of physical, mental, and emotional work. A nurse always has to be on their feet and ready to go. They must be ready face the obstacles placed upon them, and make life and death decisions in the snap of a finger. This is not an easy job by any means, and can leave you run-down at the end of the day. It may feel as though the day is a never-ending cycle, but it is so worth the health and happiness of others. I believe I deserve this scholarship because it will help me achieve my future plans and long-term goals. By furthering my education in nursing, I can work towards my career goals in the medical field. I aim to make a difference in my community just the way my father does each day, and this scholarship will absolutely be the difference-maker when it comes to affording the education I need to do that and give back in the future.
McAllen Emergency Room Student Scholarship
WinnerFor my whole life, my dad has been a police officer. He is not just my hero, but the city's hero as well. I have been taught lessons and been guided down the correct path based on what he has experienced throughout his 15 years at McAllen PD. I believe that I am the student I am today because of him. He has always acknowledged and solved the challenges of the community just the way he does at home, along with maintaining focus with the task at hand. I am so grateful that my dad is who he is because I don't know if I would be taking on the challenge of being a nursing major without him. He has always made me believe that I can do whatever I set my mind to and always said, "Nothing is impossible" whenever he saw me losing hope in things I would do; even if it was little things such as my third grade math homework. I believe I deserve this scholarship because it will help me achieve my future plans and long-term goals.
