      Alcázar Legacy Scholarship
I am currently filling out this scholarship on my phone so I apologize if this is not professional. However, when I read “lost a parent due to cancer” I immediately was saying yes. My mother when she was young met her best friend and they grew up together and my mother had me. My mom made her best friend my Godmother and her and my mom both raised me until two months later my best friend was born. I grew up with both family’s my entire life until my freshman year of high school. My best friends mom (my Godmother) passed away from cancer. It went by very slowly but also quickly. Me and my best friend both sat there and watched her heart rate flatten. It was an experience I don’t wish on anyone. It tore my heart out but 5 years later I am doing okay. I choose to celebrate her instead of grieve her. She was an amazing woman and I let that be known every time she is mentioned. There are times I break down which is normal but for the most part I like to remember her greatly. I know she wasn’t my direct parent but she helped raise me and I loved her with my whole heart.
