Hi, I'm Alexi! I may be from a small town, but I have big dreams! As a Health Studies major at Fairleigh Dickinson University, I would like to showcase my academic and social talents in healthcare by becoming a Registered Nurse. Throughout high school, I engaged in numerous volunteering opportunities and I found that through helping others, I enjoyed exercising my communication and problem-solving skills. I have a passion for science and hope to strengthen trust in the healthcare community and work alongside other healthcare professionals in community and public health.
Thank you for taking the time to view my scholarship profile!

Cliff T. Wofford STEM Scholarship
STEM enables us to envision the great successes of tomorrow through the innovations we create today. To see how far, we as humans have come from Newton's Laws of Motions to flying to the Moon, it seems as though the possibilities are endless and the generation to follow expands with even greater ideas.
My passion for STEM was present before I could even hold a pencil. As a child, I had a fascination with the world around me looking for the answers to how or why things worked the way they did. My parents would say that I was the kid that "talked too much and asked too many questions". I've come to blame that on my analytical nature of thinking.
At 6 years old, I was collecting rocks and analyzing the differences between them. At 10 years old, I was fascinated by the microscopic entities that make up all living things, cells. At 16 years old, I was studying gas laws in AP Chemistry. Science in particular was the most fascinating subject to me across all the STEM fields. Why you may ask? Science originates from a variety of various sources, all the great thinkers had various theories and skepticism before we ever found answers to pressing questions. Imagine how cool it would be to take the information you learned and utilize that to solve a baffling mystery. Everyone may look at you with such great concern and dismay, but once you obtain the facts to defend your argument you feel untouchable and all-knowing.
Through my uttermost appreciation for STEM, I consider myself to be in preparation for my career path and advancement in college. In my sophomore year of high school, I found myself completed absorbed with the studies of Chemistry whether it be calculations, measuring substances on the scale, or learning various laws; chemistry became my favorite high school course thus far. I decided to challenge myself in the upcoming year and enroll in AP Chemistry which I hoped to enhance my academic experience and better prepare me for college courses I would take in the future.
On the first day of school, I entered the class to my surprise to find the top 20 students taking the seats beside me in AP Chemistry. As you could probably tell, this horrified me considering that I do not fit into the 10th percentile of my graduating class. At this moment, I felt myself degrading my abilities and considered dropping out when I failed my first quiz. I was exceptional in Chemistry Honors the year before and seeing myself fail in AP Chemistry ruined my self-esteem.
However, the second week arrived, and just when I was ready to schedule a meeting with my guidance counselor to remove AP Chemistry from my schedule, I found myself engaging with other students in my class. One of my classmates made a group chat so we could get to know each other better and we spent our free periods studying together. On that note, if I had dropped out I would have never experienced our first lab using a Bunsen burner and crucible.
Though this time of my life held to be difficult, it inspired me to major in Chemistry and begin to collaborate with my Chemistry professor for future research projects. I visualize gaining experience in my given field and posing as a better choice as a potential applicant in my search for a career. AP Chemistry was an expansion of my lifelong love for science, now I hope to expand upon my knowledge and comprehension to become a successful Pharmacist.
