A defining aspect of who I am is my love for serving others, specifically children. Every Sunday at church, I serve in the elementary children’s ministry area. During this time, I teach children and gifted children about God and His love, show them valuable life skills, and build bonds with them. I have served in this area for three years, and this opportunity has grown me and demonstrated to me the value of working with and investing in the next generation. This service can be challenging, and its challenge has inspired me to become a pediatric nurse; I want to show children the compassion and love they may not receive in their own lives.
Children come from many different backgrounds, some from broken households. The explanation that they may be in the hospital or the nurse’s office on a specific day could be due to their family situation; their hospitalization may be from an eating disorder, a suicide attempt, or physical abuse. Regardless of the reason, I want to be there for that child. I want to be the love and compassion they do not receive at home, and the first thing they encounter in a place of true hurt: a place that feels like inescapable hopelessness. I hope that I can be the reminder that although their life at home is imperfect, loving people remain existent in the world. Nevertheless, my passion does not end with children who live in broken homes. I want to work with children from all backgrounds. A reminder of love is important to any child, even if they do receive it in their family lives.
I desire to serve these children while also pursuing my love for science and health. These subjects come naturally to me and I have found each fascinating since elementary school. I love chemistry, anatomy, and biology; the way in which the human body functions and takes care of itself intrigues me greatly. Pursuing these studies in college and utilizing what I learn about bodily autonomy will allow me to alleviate the sensations of pain and discomfort in others. This is an attribute that I find very valuable.
After receiving my degree, I plan on working at a hospital or office in Indiana. These places could include Peyton Manning or Riley’s Children's Hospital. My choices are very intricate and specific; each will have the opportunity to provide me with a foundation for my future. Both hospitals are dedicated to children who are consistently in and out of the infirmary. Since some children may be in the infirmary for months or even years, these places will give me the perfect opportunity to build relationships with children from diverse backgrounds. It will allow me to show each individual compassion.
I hope that I may be a light in a dark world. My ultimate goal is to demonstrate God’s love while simply doing my job. I hope that my future career allows me to have a real influence and impact on young people. Although my effect may be solely for a small area in Indiana, I hope that it inspires others: inspires others to show compassion to all people no matter their circumstances. I desire to invest in the next generation while doing what I love, and I thank you for considering to support me on this journey.

Learner Math Lover Scholarship
Shockingly, my love and passion for math did not begin simply with its importance; it began with competition. In my early days of elementary school, my classes frequently played a game where two students stood at the front of the classroom with a math problem presented on the whiteboard behind them. The first person to finish the problem would be considered the winner, and he/she would stay at the front of the room while the loser would sit down. Eventually, the entire class would rotate through until an ultimate winner was determined. A boy and I were always in the final competition; although the difficulty of the problems did not exceed long division, I remember the nervous excitement that I felt while I was at the front of the classroom. This is what fueled my love for math. It is notable that I usually won this competition; however, when I would lose my passion would only grow. In high school, I have now witnessed what mathematics can do in real life situations. I’ve fallen in love with its logic and the satisfaction that I receive when I solve the problem.
If you provide me this $1,000 scholarship, according to my calculations I will be 0.6% closer to covering my college expenses (and 100% thankful).

Humanity’s greatest weakness is procrastination. This habit causes high school students to conform to laziness; they wait as long as possible to complete an assignment. To combat procrastination next time school is in session, venture to the store and purchase a planner. Planners provide students an opportunity to write down each piece of homework assigned to them, and any extracurricular activities scheduled. The satisfaction of crossing items off of their planner will give any student motivation to do what needs to be done; procrastination will no longer appear as fulfilling as it once was.
