Bio

I am a Junior at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiological Sciences. I currently work as a Certified Nursing Assistant and have dreams to attend Touro University Nevada’s Physician Assistant program to one day become a Physician Assistant. In my free time I enjoy volunteering with The Cupcake Girls, a non-profit organization that aids those in the adult industry both consensual or not, with respect and confidentiality. I also enjoy attending my university’s Taekwondo Club doing light movements due to a past sports injury. In addition, I go to the gym 3-4 times a week and practice weight training.

I am an aspiring Pre-Physician Assistant student in my Junior Year of a Kinesiology Bachelor’s degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I want to become a Physician Assistant due to my prior experience with orthopedic surgery in my adolescence. When I was 5, I began practicing Taekwondo and fell in love with the martial art. So much so, that by 13, my body ended up worn and tired from all of the constant competing and 24 hour a week training I did. Due to excruciating pain I had in my ankle that I tried to ignore for a year, I ended up in the doctor’s office with a prescription of rest for 4-6 weeks because I now had Osteochondritis Dissecans- a condition of my left talus bone in which there was a lack of blood flow causing the bone to flake and cause a great deal of pain. As a competitor and martial artist who had never taken even a weeklong break from the sport, being told this shook up my entire world. As soon as the rest did not work, my family and I resorted to surgery. That would be the first surgery that I ended up having out of four in the summers of 2014-2017. Thankfully the last of them was effective enough to make it so I do not walk with pain 90% of the time, but I have not been able to train in Taekwondo since, nor will I ever be able to without recurrence of the injury. I now pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology because of how intriguing the human body is as well as all of it’s beautiful movements. I found a new love- the science behind it all. This experience has shaped my view on sports medicine and how I want to play a part in helping others like myself- who had great aspirations, but a body that did not necessarily agree with them. I hope to become a Physician Assistant working alongside an orthopedic surgeon to perform surgeries to help those with these kinds of ailments, especially since the rate of sports injuries in adolescence is rising in recent times. I also plan to make a positive impact on the world through my career as a Physician Assistant by being a healthcare professional that can represent other women of color. Throughout my own experience in the hospitals and medical offices, I have seen primarily White men, especially when it comes to the primary provider, therefore I want to be someone that the child version of myself can look up to and provide care for to make them feel more comfortable and seen. I also feel that more representation in medicine is very important considering the occurrences of medical racism. I want to be someone that my patients will be able to trust in understanding and being compassionate towards their ailments, without fear of being dismissed because of their skin color, accent, or name. I believe with all of my heart that I will become a Physician Assistant that will be sympathetic, knowledgeable, and full of care for my patients.
