Hello! My name is Alejandra. I am currently a sophomore nursing major at Southern Adventist University.
I grew up in a small town in Colombia and lived there until the age of 13. This has helped me appreciate the small things of life since some times my family’s financial situation was not so good. However my parents worked hard to give me and my sister a better future. Now I would like to also do my best and give my best to get the best education possible and give back to them all they have done for me.
Thank you for checking my Bold profile! I am passionate about helping others. I want to become a nurse so I can travel the world and go on mission trips. My main goal is to help the little ones in Africa have a better future.
I hope to go to school debt free and work very hard to achieve my dreams!

I came to the US when I was 14 years old without knowing any English. I still remember my first day of freshman year and how scared I was. I did not understand anything the teacher said during class. For the first 6 months, this was my everyday life. I went to class, sat in the last seat and try to catch any words I knew and make sense of the lecture. Every time we had a test I would memorize word by word without understanding them. Eventually, I was able to learn English and even though my accent was still bad and people would make fun of me when I made mistakes, I did not give up on my studies. I gave my best to keep my grades up and I was still able to graduate as class president with a 4.0 GPA.
One of my biggest worries now is not being able to afford college. It has always been really hard for my parents to give me the financial support I need. Since we are not legal citizens of the US we are not allowed to work in jobs that provide us with the necessary resources. It has also been hard for me to attend school since I do not receive any help from the government. I believe that God has a plan and He will make a way for me to attend school and be able to graduate as a nurse.
Every time I feel like giving up, I look back to my freshman year of high school and how much I have grown since then. I never gave up on my studies even when it seemed impossible for me. When I started college, I made the decision to stay in school no matter the circumstances, which is why I have worked the limit of hours I am allowed to in school while I also babysit and clean houses. I am currently in the nursing program which will be starting this fall. It has always been my dream to be a nurse and help those in need. I one day want to become a missionary nurse and travel to those places that need help.
It is my wish to one day help students that struggle like I do. If I get this scholarship I will do my best to give back what has been given to me. Thank you for considering me for this scholarship.
Taylor Swift ‘1989’ Fan Scholarship
My name is Alejandra and I and currently a freshman in college. I grew up in a small town in Colombia, South America. Taylor Swift was not as popular and known as she is here in the US. The only songs that I had heard was “Shake it off” and “You Belong With Me”. At the moment I did not know English so I was not able to understand what the songs where talking about. It was all about the her rhythm, which I really liked in both songs. When I got to America, I was introduced to a whole new world of Taylor Swift. I met a girl in high school that was obsessed with Taylor Swift and she could listen to her songs all day long. One day, as we were driving home after a rough day in school. She played the same song I heard back in Colombia, “Shake it off”, and I was surprised of how I could understand every word she is saying. I started crying because it felt like a big accomplishment for me. I went from not understanding a word she was saying to being able to sing along with it. The song soon became my daily inspiration. Every time life hit me I would just sing “players gonna play play play and haters gonna hate hate hate but I’m just going to shake shake shake”. Taylor has amazing song with amazing meanings (she basically has a song for every relationship situation). But Shake it off will always be my favorite song, not only from her “1989” album, but from al the albums. I know most people find it stupid or too repetitive, but I will never get tired of it. I am happy to call myself a “swiftly”. I now know almost every single one of her songs. I was so happy to be able to go to her concert this past month. Even though it was probably one of the farthest spots in the whole concert, seeing her perform all of the most popular songs (including shake it off) was like a dream for me. I went with my friend from high school. And we sang out heart out. I was very surprised when I saw this scholarship online. I was finally able to identify with a scholarship and write an essay about something I am passionate about. Thank you so much for taking me into consideration for this scholarship.

My name is Alejandra Camacho and I am a graduating senior and an international student.
I was born in a small town in Colombia (not Columbia). My parents were not financially stable which caused us to move around many times looking for a better place where my parents could get a good job to sustain me and my sister. They always gave everything to provide for us. When I was 11 my dad found a job in Medellin, Colombia so later that year we ended up moving there.
One summer a group of people came from the US for a missionary trip and my dad’s job was to drive them to the places they needed to go. However, my dad did not know English at all which made it difficult for them to communicate. But me and my sister had taken some English classes before so he took us sometimes to help them translate. We got to meet the people there and got very close to them. As result they started talking to us about the opportunity to go study in the US. For me and my sister, that had always been a dream we never thought we could achieve but with a lot of help from them we were able to come to high school in the US. They took my sister first, since I was not old enough to start high school yet. And 3 years later I came to the US to start my high school years. It was very difficult not seeing my parents anymore but I worked hard and focused on my studies. I always gave the best I could which allowed me to have a 4.0 GPA, be class valedictorian and be a leader at my school. I am very thankful for everything the missionary group has done for us but now I want to take it to the next level.
I would love to go to college in the US and become a nurse so I can help people that need it. It has become my passion to help others but also to do it in the medical field. I still remember learning about the heart and its functions in A & P class and how fascinating it was to see all that the human body is able to do. My dream is to go as a missionary to Africa and help those in need, especially the little humans. If I get this scholarship I would do my best and give my best to return what has been given to me. Not only with money but also with time, energy, and hard work.
I want to make this world a better place. I know I can’t change everything but I want to be able to do my part and make an impact on as many people as I can. I want to be able to do for others what many people have done for me.
Working on a place where diversity is taken in consideration gives the workplace a diversity of thinking. It is easier to solve problems, make decisions and have creativity if everyone has a different way of thinking and respects each other.
Thank you for giving me this opportunity and taking me into consideration!

Rho Brooks Women in STEM Scholarship
Hello, my name is Alejandra Camacho. I am from Colombia but I came to the US 4 years ago as an international student. My plan is to continue my studies in the US next fall to become a nurse. However, the only way I can do that is with the help of scholarships and grants since it is impossible for my parents to afford having me here. Throughout my high school years I have worked very hard and currently have a 4.0 GPA.
Every day when I wake up I tell myself, “today I’m going to be my best and give my best”. I started this a couple of years ago. It started mainly for school and grades, but later on I added 2 words at the end, “for others”. And ever since then it has become my quote of the day, what keeps me going every morning.
I am very passionate about helping others with all their needs, and I could say my dad was the one who inspired me to do this. When I was little we never had much to share with others. But every chance my dad got, he gave his best to help those in need, even with something so small as a meal. He taught me that there is always someone who is going through something worse than you are, and that we should always be thankful for all the small things life has given us. He made me the person I am today. My dad also played a big part on my career choice. One day, as I was thinking about what I wanted to be in life, he asked me one question that I will never forget, “who do you want to help the most?” And I think this is a question everyone should ask themselves before choosing their career. That question made me realize the passion I had for helping sick people, specially little kids. Every time someone got sick in my school I always tried to make them feel better. Sometimes I even tried giving them some of my mom’s remedies.
My dream for the future is to become a nurse so I can go to Africa as a missionary and help everyone who needs it, specially the little humans.
If I get this scholarship I would make sure to give what has been given to me. And I talk not only about money but also time, energy and dedication to make this world a better place.
Robert F. Lawson Fund for Careers that Care
My name is Alejandra Camacho and I’m currently a senior in high school. I was born in Colombia but moved to the US 4 years ago. This has helped me appreciate more the small things of life and specially all the work my parents have done so that I can be successful.
I plan to start college next year to become a nurse. However, this was not always my plan. For a very long time I wanted to become a preschool teacher, so I decided to volunteer at a elementary school. The first day I did it I realized that it was not the job for me. The next day one of the little girls got sick, since this school was very small they didn’t have a nurse or someone to take care of her. With my little knowledge about kids sicknesses I stayed with her the rest of the day, doing my best to make her feel better. That was the day I realized that I had a passion not only for kids but also to help them feel better. And ever since then I’ve known that my call is to be a nurse.
Many people tell me I’m doing it because of the money or because is what everyone else is doing, but for me helping others is what I enjoy, and having the knowledge to do it in a bigger way it’s just an amazing job to do.
I want to become a nurse so I can help the tiny humans. My main goal is to go to Africa as a missionary to help those in need, specially the kids. Every morning when I wake up I tell myself, “Today I’ll give my best and do my best” and I apply this to everything in my life, but specially in helping others, I know I can’t change the world but I believe that by doing my best I can change at least one person’s life. I want to make a great impact on every person I cross paths with, no matter who they are.
If I get this scholarship I will do everything I can do give back what has been given to me. Not only with money but also with my time and love.
Thank you for taking the time to read my essay and for your donation for education, you are making this world a better place.
Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship
For many of us is hard to look at our qualities. Instead we focus on our failures. For many years this is how I felt, like I had nothing good to give to this world. Later on I realized that maybe I didn’t have A LOT of qualities or things to offer but that should not stop me from doing and giving my best to help others— and that became what I think is my biggest quality.
I am passionate about helping others with simple acts. Now I understand that things like a smile or a small talk can change someone’s day or even life. Helping others bring a joy to my heart which is something I have never found somewhere else. And having this quality will make life journey a lot more enjoyable and will give me the energy I need to continue fighting. Now I have decided to expand the kindness and help other people around the world.
I want to become a nurse so I can go to Africa and help those in need, specially the little humans.
There’s so many things in this world that need our help and I wish I could break myself into many pieces and be everywhere where people need me. Since I can’t do this I’ll put my grain of sand wherever I am called to do so. Each day when I wake up I feel the need to do something to make the place where I am a better one. Right now since I am in school I try my best for all of my classmates to feel like they matter, I tutor at night, I volunteer at church community service, I listen to other peoples problems between others. I know this is probably not going to change the world but as long as it impacts somebody’s life, my work will be well paid off.
If I get this scholarship I will do my best to give back what has been given to me. It could be in money, time, kindness, etc. But somehow I would make sure to do something to make this world a better one. I would learn so I can teach others. I would fight so I can protect others. I would work so I can help others. And I would pray so God can bless others.
Thank you for taking the time to read my essay and for your generous contribution to education. May God bless you.
Bold Selfless Acts Scholarship
Every morning when I wake up I tell myself, “Today I’ll do my best and give my best”. I started doing this about 2 years ago when I got a Resident Assistant job, at first that’s all it was for, helping my residents. However the more I said it the more I applied it to other parts of my life. Giving my best for others became everything in my life. I am probably not the most selfless person there’s is on the world. But there’s one think I do know— when I help others I am happy.
When I think about my future I see myself traveling to Africa on missionary trips as a nurse and helping those around me. I want do and give my best to help the little ones who probably don’t have a voice. If I get this scholarship I will do everything I can to give back what has been given to me, selflessly.
Bold Legacy Scholarship
I want people to remind me as a selfless kind and loving person. I am very passionate about helping others. A couple of years ago I chose my motto to be “Do my best and give my best—always” and ever since then I have always done everything that is in my hands to help others. I don’t want world recognition, I just want to make an impact in someone’s life. I want to show at least one person love.
Kids are the future of the world, which is why they are the ones I want to impact the most. A lot of people have made an impact in my life by just showing me they care and I want to do that for others. If I get this scholarship I’ll do everything I can to give back what has been given to me— a chance. A chance for other people to enjoy life as much as I do
Bold Goals Scholarship
I want to become a Nurse so I can go on missionary trips to Africa and help kids who are in need. Ever since I was a little kids I always told my parents that one day, I was going to go to Africa. However I always thought I would do it as a teacher but my plans have changed a little lately but my goal is still the same. I want to help those in need/pain. If I get this scholarship I will do my best and give my best to give back what has been given to me— a chance. A chance of a better life, and I would do that by helping those little ones that might not have a voice or someone to be there for them. At some point I would also like to adopt one of them and give them a second chance of a better future.
Dashanna K. McNeil Memorial Scholarship
Being a Nurse requieres a lot of patience, kindness and strength, but i could say that the most important one is passion. Nurses are always the first person a patients sees in the morning when they are in a lot of pain. They need someone to smile at them, care about them, ask them how they feel, etc. And only a passionate person can deal with the grumpiness, dislike, and bad attitudes of some patients.
For many years I was certain that I was going to be a elementary school teacher. I loved kids and being around them brought me joy. My parents suggested that I tried it first to see if it was what I really wanted, so I decided to volunteer as an assistant teacher to see what the job was really about. After a couples of weeks I realized that it was not a match for me I still loved kids but being in a classroom and teaching them was not what I saw myself doing in the future. However, I also realized that whenever a kid got sick I always wanted to help them feel better. I had learned some tricks from my mom for some of the common sickness like stomach or head aches and always tried my best for them to get a little better while their parents came to pick them up from school.
So I started doing some research and some personality test to decide if it was a good fit for me.
Working with kids is my passion and I also have discovered that medicine is my passion as well. The fact that I can combine those 2 together and make something great out of it is just amazing. I want to work helping little kids and become a pediatric nurse. I also think that many other countries are in need for people to work with sick kids. My dream has always been to go to Africa as a missionary and I believe that being a pediatric nurse would be very helpful in a place like that. I understand that being a nurse is hard because you see people died everyday but I believe that the joy of saving a life is much greater and makes this job one of the most important ones. If I get this scholarship, I’ll work hard to give back what has been given to me—a chance.
Bold Motivation Scholarship
Every morning when I wake up I tell myself these words: “Be your best and give your best, always”. To answer the question, what motivates me, I would say the people. Looking at people’s lives and seeing how much they need someone to be there for them and to show them that they are loved is what motivates me to be that person that could change their lives. Sometimes it only takes 1 word of kindness or one smile. And I want to do everything that is in my hands to make them feel that kind of love. I want to make this word a better place for our next generation. We owe it to this planet, we owe it to our parents, we owe it to ourselves. And I know I won’t probably change the world but with changing a couple of people’s lives I would be happy and feel like I did my part

My name is Alejandra. My dream has always been to become a nurse. It all started when I was in elementary school and out biology teacher talked to us about the heart ❤️ . It was very impressive to me to see for the first time that it was not like the drawings or the cartoon picture it but is the most wonderful thing about the human body. Sometimes I still like to think that out live for others comes from the heart. And that’s what my goal as a nurse is, to show other love, maybe not with my heart but with everything in me. A sick person most of the times is not only physically sick but they also just need to feel like someone cares for them, they need someone to give them a kind smile in the mornings and that’s what I want to become, a nurse that not only know how to cure a heart but also knows how to heal it from mental pain. I want to be able to bring happiness to a kid that maybe even his or her parents don’t give it to him. But I also want to study very hard to I can heal physical pain and make my patients feel much better when they go out the doors of the hospital. I want to go in missionary trips and give my best to help those in need. To bring the joy back to the most needed places. To bring love to the lonely ones. To bring health to the sick. Everyone in this word need someone that shows them love. I know for me growing up I had to stay at the hospital a couple of days and I still remember that I would always cry whenever the doctor came in, because I was scared but he always had a big smile in his face and that always made me feel a little less worried or scare. People need love, the word need love and kindness and I want to be that nurse that can change a lot of people’s lives by smiling at them and telling them is all going to be okay. I know I can do great things because every morning when I wake up, I tell myself, I’m going to be my best and give my best, always. And that is why nursing is my dream.
JDT Ventures Scholarship Fund
Coming from a low income household has taught me to appreciate small things more. Sure, it hard sometimes but it teaches you to have trust. It also brings you closer to your family in times of need and helps you be a better person after those hard times. I don’t see it as something that is going to stop me from getting the things I want in life but rather as something to fight for. It gives me energy to think that I can have a better life and achieve all my goals in life by trying hard. I know every case is different but my parents have taught be to always do better. My goals in the future is to be able to give back to my parents all of what they’ve done for me. They worked day and night to give me and my sister the best education. I would also do and give my best to help others who are in situation like mine
