Bio

I am a 17-year-old Dominican and Puerto Rican girl who likes to sing, and play piano and loves Jesus. I have an autoimmune disease TINU and I spent most of summer 2021 in and out of Vanderbilt Children's doctors' offices trying to diagnose and treat my TINU. After being on medical steroids, Insulin, and Cellcept all at the same time I was finally able to go into recession and use Humira as my primary medicine. Now I have a crazy story and I am ready to pursue my dream of Teaching elementary students. I lived in NYC all my life and in 2019 I moved to Chattanooga Tn!

When I was in Kindergarten my teacher Mrs. G would always start each day with an affirmation. To this day I still remember it. "I am Kind. I am Smart. I am Worth it. I am Loved". I did not grow up in a 2 parent home; whenever my father was around he wasn't very affectionate. The affirmation made me feel seen and loved. She always told me I had a kind soul and She could see me as a teacher. I didn't believe her. I had always babysat for my neighbors and served in the children's department at my church and loved it. I loved watching them sing the alphabet song and repeat words when asked to. I loved to see their little smiles whenever they could finally color and make a mess of reds and blues. I never thought much of it I was set on being a Mental Health provider like my mom. I wanted to help people who were struggling get better and see them succeed. It was not until I was in the 8th grade. I had technology with Ms. Plachy. I just found out we were moving to Tennessee after living in New York all of my life. I loved Ms. Plachy's class. It was that 45-minute class that I would look forward to all day. She and I were talking about how different Chattanooga was going to be from Brooklyn. She told me how Job opportunities would be better in Chattanooga and I could be whatever I wanted to be. I had taken a personality test because after my mom told me some stories about her work day and how sad it was to hear her client's stories I didn't know if I had to strength to do what she did. On the first test I took, I got an Elementary school teacher. I talked to Ms. Plachy about it and she agreed. I always told her how much I loved kids and how much I enjoyed taking care of little ones. It was then that I remembered my kindergarten teacher and how she always made me feel seen and loved. I realized that teaching was still helping those in need even if it was the little ones. I started researching and I concluded that I wanted to teach elementary schoolers in low-income neighborhoods. I want to teach those who don't usually get the best education and don't have the same opportunities that others do. I think everyone deserves that chance and even if I can make a difference in one little boy's or girl's life I will be content. Now I'm 17 and still have a passion to teach little children who don't get the same opportunities as others do simply because they can't afford it. I would love to be that light in someone like how Mrs. G and Ms. Plachy were for me. I believe that I can be an inspiration to those who truly need it the most!
