Technology is what makes every generation live better than the previous. Advances in medicine, engineering, and energy are what keeps making this possible. With climate change being at the forefront of our efforts as a society I plan to do my part. Since the beginning of 2021, I have been working on a system that uses artificial intelligence for agricultural applications. Concepts such as vertical farming for example will make it possible to provide food to local areas that are fresh and grown optimally. These innovations will help curb the impacts of climate change, specifically drought and famine. The system I have designed in early prototyping has made significant changes and advances since May 2021. I hope to use my device to help grow crops optimally and prevent the effects of climate change from disturbing the food supply chain. I first had the idea to develop the device after reading the January 2011 issue of the MIT Technology Review, the edition of the magazine was on farming technology. The same month I was inspired to pursue this endeavor I won a nationwide NASA competition for a technology proposal related to radiation shielding and was named a finalist for a NASA Tournament Lab (NTL) Lunar Crane competition. I am currently a third-year aerospace engineering student at San Jose State University and plan to continue doing research and development on the device after graduation and currently continuing with prototyping. I dream to be one of the many tech businesses in my backyard which is Silicon Valley. The most difficult part for me is to secure funding and I hope to graduate with low debt to continue pursuing my concept. I plan on being largely self-funded at the beginning of the product's life cycle. I enjoy the challenge that comes with a background in engineering and I use that in the very foundations of what I call my “start-up”. I am its only employee and I truly enjoy prototyping and building devices and testing them. I am glad to be able to build something which can push forward technology and improve life for all of us. I think being an engineer before being an entrepreneur is very important, I would not be able to develop, troubleshoot and test prototypes unless I did enjoy what I'm being exposed to. Having my prototype and this being my first project completely developed by myself and knowing how it can help improve the lives of many people is something I find very rewarding.
