Bio

Aireus Robinson is a multidisciplinary storyteller whose academic journey appears to veer in opposite directions. With an A.A. in Journalism and an A.S. in Computer Science from Georgia State University, Aireus intersects these fields through the lens of narrative design. Continuing his journey at DePaul University, via a BFA in screenwriting, he seeks to create community-driven narratives to drive social change in third spaces. Aireus gained experience in the specialty coffee industry by managing storefronts for companies like Red Bay Coffee and Bluestone Lane. Recognizing coffee as a vehicle for connection, community, and culture, Aireus dove into the cultural significance of coffee and its impact on the olfactory senses. Drawing heavily from the video game industry; applies those same principles to real-world environments, creating spaces where elements across the senses contribute to the experience. As an extension of his journalistic endeavors, he founded CTRL+POUR, a blog that explores narrative design in third spaces, with a focus on using beverages as a medium to tell cultural-historic stories (DiasPOURa), further fostering connection through multisensory experiences. Aireus’s dedication to the community extends beyond his creative pursuits. He has contributed to initiatives like the American Male Initiative at Georgia State University, the National Society of Black Engineers, the All Stars Project, and Project Level, where he aided in developing the next generation of artists by helping them discover their talents through music, fashion, and performance art.

Chris Jackson Computer Science Education Scholarship
Dear Scholarship Committee, I am writing to apply for the Chris Jackson Computer Science Education Scholarship with profound respect for the legacy of Chris Jackson and an earnest desire to pursue a career in computer science that reflects his values of engagement, helpfulness, and dedication. I am a committed student at Georgia State University, dual-majoring in Computer Science and Journalism, where I aim not only to further my education but also to enact the impact Chris Jackson made on the surrounding lives. It initially drew me to computer science through my fascination with Music Technology, but my academic journey brought me to a more profound passion for the field. My engagement with computer science deepened through my project, “Exploration of Narrative Design in Immersive Spaces,” which emphasizes my belief that computer science transcends coding—it crafts compelling narratives, immersive experiences, and meaningful connections; in both the digital and physical realms. Looking ahead, my dream job is to meld my technical abilities with my creative instincts in a career in creative marketing. Ideally, I envision working for an organization that supports diversity and uplifts underrepresented voices—a principle manifest in my start-up, Outta Pocket Roasters (OPR), where technology serves as a vehicle to foster an inclusive and innovative coffee culture. I resonate with the legacy of Chris Jackson and see parallels in our shared hurdles, notably the financial struggle to secure an education. Balancing long work hours with rigorous academics, I’ve consistently showed the resolve and diligence that Chris Jackson exemplified. Simultaneously, my community service, particularly with GoFundBean and Glitter Cat, echoes Chris’s penchant for support and help, teaching me vital lessons in research, communication, and advocacy. This scholarship represents more than financial support; it is an opportunity to extend Chris Jackson’s influence—demonstrating the capacity to listen genuinely, to innovate thoughtfully, and to live purposefully. My goal is to succeed academically and professionally and inspire and elevate others, much like Chris Jackson did. I am eager to showcase my commitment to the field of computer science and to the esteemed values this scholarship upholds. Thank you for considering my application and for allowing me the chance to carry forward the inspiring legacy of Chris Jackson. Sincerely, Aireus Robinson
    TEAM ROX Scholarship
Dear Scholarship Committee, I am thrilled to present my application for a scholarship that resonates deeply with my commitment to fostering the potential in others. My name is Aireus Robinson, and as a student at Georgia State University pursuing dual majors in Computer Science and Journalism, my mission and passion have been to empower individuals and communities through my involvement in various initiatives. My journey of service began within the specialty coffee industry, where inequality still percolates. Recognizing this, I committed myself to organizations such as GoFundBean and Glitter Cat, where I leveraged my leadership and organizational skills to amplify the voices of BIPOC individuals. I have led fundraising campaigns, coordinated industry events, and disseminated resources, all focused on creating a more inclusive space. Beyond my niche in coffee, I extended my service to the broader community, volunteering at local centers to tutor underprivileged children and teach digital literacy—a crucial skill in today’s interconnected world. These efforts have helped bridge the digital divide and fostered my growth as an empathetic and socially aware leader. Despite financial strain and family obligations, I remained steadfast in my academic pursuits. Balancing research, extracurricular activities, and part-time employment. As of right now, I’m set to graduate in the Summer of 2024 with both of my degrees, to which I intend to transfer to NYU to pursue a degree in Interactive Media. Among my accomplishments, I am proud of “Spill The Beans!,” a research initiative advocating for transparency and equity in the coffee industry. This project marries my dedication to social advocacy with academic insight, and it stands as evidence of my aspiration to facilitate positive change for the undervalued workforce within this community. Looking to the future, I am passionately developing Outta Pocket Roasters (OPR), a start-up designed to cultivate an inclusive coffee culture that uplifts people of color. This venture goes beyond commerce; it is my vision for social reform, embodying the spirit of the scholarship by advocating for underrepresented groups and nurturing communal growth through co-op-style operations. I am eager to embrace this scholarship’s opportunity to honor a legacy of selflessness through continued education and impactful initiatives. I am driven by a desire to enrich lives and committed to serving my community with the same grace and devotion as the remarkable individual in whose memory this scholarship is awarded. I appreciate your consideration and hope to contribute my ambition, drive, and impact to the enduring legacy of service that this scholarship inspires. Warm regards, Aireus Robinson

    Special Delivery of Dreams Scholarship
Special Delivery! From Identity Crisis to Community Building ==Overcoming the Challenge of Identity== Growing up in a predominantly white household, not accepting of black culture, I grappled with an identity crisis that left me feeling isolated. I was caught in a paradox: too white for the black kids and too black for the white kids. This struggle extended beyond the playground, affecting my social development and leading to a loneliness that persisted until I dropped out of high school. It wasn't until I discovered the specialty coffee community that I found a sense of belonging. My manager at Red Bay Coffee, Crystal Marie Cervantes, became a parental figure in my life, filling a role that had been absent from my parents and difficult for my grandparents to fulfill as I was partially their caretaker. She encouraged me to return to school to obtain my GED and further pushed me to pursue my writing dreams, which led me to enroll at Georgia State University. ==Giving Back through Technology and Storytelling== As an African-American male majoring in Computer Science and Journalism at GSU, my academic pursuits are more than intellectual exercises. They are tools that empower me to give back to my community. I aim to democratize access to AI tools and amplify marginalized voices, bridging societal divides. Receiving this scholarship would alleviate the financial burden of my education, allowing me to focus on my studies in Interactive Media at NYU. This, in turn, would equip me to craft localized experiences and narratives for underserved communities, furthering my activism efforts. Philately for the Next Generation While I have yet to gain personal experience with philately, I recognize its potential as a gateway to history, culture, and community. To engage the younger generation, I propose developing an interactive QR-code-based experience that narrates the history behind postage stamps. This digital interface would gamify the experience, transforming philately from a solitary hobby into a shared community endeavor. ==A Fusion of Passions for Community Impact== Outside academia, I've founded 'SpaceBar,' a venture that elevates experiences and builds community. Through sensory activities like the Aroma Kit Experience, we spark dialogues on stigmatized subjects like mental health. My roles as a Mixologist, Beverage Experience Manager, and specialty coffee Barista undergoing Q-Grader training serve as additional avenues for community engagement. ==The Ripple Effect of a Scholarship== This scholarship is more than just financial relief; it catalyzes change. The ripple effect of this support will extend beyond my journey, enabling a future where technology, narratives, and community engagement converge to build bridges, not barriers. ==Conclusion== My journey is a rich tapestry woven from diverse identities, challenges, and aspirations threads. This scholarship would be a monumental step, enabling me to fulfill my educational dreams and, in doing so, contribute to a more inclusive and empathetic world.
Revolutionizing Robotics and Computer Sciences Scholarship
Raised in Oakland, a city known for its history of activism and the legacy of the Black Panthers, the word “revolution” carries a weight for me that transcends conventional understanding. I was nurtured by a community that understands what it means to fight for change and equality, and this narrative is ingrained in my work as I strive to bridge the gaps that technology has widened between communities. In the San Francisco Bay Area, where technological advancement is often hailed as the ultimate goal, I have witnessed the dichotomy of progress and marginalization firsthand. As a Computer Science and Journalism student on the cusp of graduating with an A.A and A.S., my mission extends beyond mere technological proficiency. I aim to make technology accessible and meaningful, particularly for marginalized communities traditionally excluded from the overarching tech narrative. Loupe’s mission of “revolution” resonates deeply with me. It urges us to be agents of change, to challenge the status quo, and to create a place of belonging for all. My academic pursuits reflect this ethos as I work to provide AI tools and Interactive Multimedia Exhibits to communities that are often overlooked. Through Alternate Reality Games (ARGs), other interactive experiences, and filmmaking, I aim to give voice and a platform to the marginalized, creating platforms where their stories can be heard and amplified. My entrepreneurial venture, ‘SpaceBar,’ is a tangible manifestation of my commitment to revolutionizing interactive experiences. As a Mixologist, Beverage Experience Manager, and specialty coffee Barista undergoing Q-Grader training, I craft drinks that tell stories. Through the ‘Le Nez du Café Aroma Kit Experience,’ I engage communities in sensory exercises designed to evoke shared memories and facilitate cultural exchange. This approach goes beyond the superficial enjoyment of a beverage; it delves into the rich tapestry of stories that each ingredient embodies. However, the area I am most eager to revolutionize is how we design interactive experiences affiliated with our senses. Whether it’s the Specialty Coffee Association’s Westernized Flavor-wheel or a computer program designed with a narrow user perspective, we often fall short of inclusivity. As I have come to understand it from my Oakland upbringing, the essence of revolution is to challenge existing systems and build something more equitable and inclusive. And that is precisely what I aim to do in the specialty coffee and tech sectors. In alignment with Loupe’s mission, I am committed to acting as an agent of revolutionary change. I strive to foster inclusivity and cultural sensitivity in every project I undertake, guided by the legacy of activism my hometown of Oakland has imparted. By revolutionizing the fabric of interactive experiences, we can create a world that truly meets people where they are, making technology and community engagement accessible and meaningful for everyone.

Narratives, and Sensory Experiences: Bridging Divides Through Multiplatform Storytelling The world is full of complex narratives, each fraught with challenges and opportunities. As a Queer African-American male who grew up in a predominately white household, I've navigated multiple intersections of identity, privilege, and struggle. My goal? To use this complex tapestry as a foundation for positive change. I am majoring in Computer Science and Journalism, a fusion that represents my mission: leveraging technology to amplify marginalized voices and bridge societal divides. I'm eager to attend NYU to study Interactive Media and Writing, and the Lyndsey Scott Coding+ Scholarship offers financial support and an affirmation of my multifaceted goals. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, the tech industry was the backdrop against which I formed my understanding of the world. Through this, I saw its effects on surrounding communities—the societal divides that technological advancements can exacerbate. Marginalized communities, particularly impoverished and/or BIPOC, often find themselves on the losing end of this technological revolution. My ambition in computer science is specific: I want to democratize and disseminate access to AI tools for traditionally sidelined communities. By doing this, I aim to level the playing field, ensuring that advancements in AI serve as a bridge, not a barrier, between communities. Journalism: The Voice of the Voiceless My passion for journalism stems from its core tenet: storytelling. Narratives have the power to change perceptions, inspire, and, most importantly, to humanize. While computer science provides the toolset, journalism offers the content—stories of marginalized communities that need to be heard. My goal is to establish a Multimedia Publishing company focused on utilizing emerging technologies to tell stories and deliver art in new, innovative ways. A Symphony of Experiences Outside the binaries of code and text, I find another passion: the hospitality industry. As a Mixologist, Beverage Experience Manager, and specialty coffee Barista undergoing Q-Grader training, I founded ‘SpaceBar,’ a venture to elevate experiences and build community. Through activities like the Aroma Kit Experience, we tap into olfactory senses to evoke memories, emotions, and facilitate cultural exchange. It’s not just about the drink; it’s about the story the ingredients tell, the community it builds, and the divides it bridges. Converging Pathways The real magic happens when these paths converge. Imagine an interactive multimedia exhibit powered by AI algorithms that tells a story and allows you to smell, taste, and feel the narrative. Or consider a ‘SpaceBar’ experience guided by an AI, customized to each individual’s emotional and cultural background. The possibilities are endless, and the impact—profound. At NYU, I aim to further explore these intersections between Interactive Media and Writing, all while using this rich tapestry to serve my community and contribute to a more inclusive world. A Step Closer to the Dream While my ambitions are sky-high, my financial realities are grounded. Coming from an impoverished background, this scholarship is not just a financial relief; it’s a key that can unlock countless doors for me and the communities I aim to serve. In Conclusion My journey is not just about coding, writing, or mixing the perfect drink. It’s about the intersections—my identity, technology and storytelling, olfactory senses, and community building. I am a living, breathing amalgamation of diverse interests, bringing this diversity to the table, even if I must build my own chair. The Lyndsey Scott Coding+ Scholarship would not just be an investment in me but an investment in a future where technology and narratives come together to build bridges, not walls. I am committed to walking this path with unwavering resolve, and this scholarship would be a monumental step in that journey.
    WCEJ Thornton Foundation Low-Income Scholarship
    Winner
Dear WCEJ Thornton Foundation, My journey towards my present course of study, computer science and journalism, at Georgia State University, is a tale of resilience and perseverance. Regardless of the adversities I faced, my love for storytelling and technology has guided me to my greatest achievement, the establishment of Spacebar, a tea and coffee mixology business, and the conception of Juntos, a platform designed to combat colorism and uplift marginalized communities. From the culturally vibrant streets of California to the buzzing specialty coffee industry of San Francisco, I learned invaluable lessons about community engagement, artistic expression, and the importance of social justice. My financially strapped beginnings may seem like a hurdle, but they fueled my motivation to succeed and gave me a unique perspective on life. I was able to see the world through a lens that numerous others do not get to experience, and this grounded me in my principles and my mission to elevate those less privileged. Being a part of the coffee industry, I could observe the struggles of international coffee producers. I saw the parallel between their struggles and the struggles of marginalized individuals of those like myself. This understanding sparked the idea of Spacebar, a venture that combines coffee, mixology, and event planning to create immersive sensory experiences while fostering partnerships with artists and promoting sustainability. The journey to establishing Spacebar was not without its trials. Juggling academics, part-time work, and my entrepreneurial endeavors, while battling impostor syndrome and providing for my family, was a constant challenge. I had to grow up faster than most, taking on financial responsibilities at a young age due to familial complications. However, these challenges only strengthened my resolve to succeed and helped me find my hidden resilience. The creation of Spacebar is my greatest achievement to date, but it’s just the beginning. My future aspirations include establishing Juntos, an initiative to link Afro-Latino voices to combat colorism and uplift marginalized communities. The lessons I learned from my experiences in the coffee industry and from an internship at Stanford’s Center on Poverty and Inequality will be instrumental in making Juntos a reality. However, the looming financial constraints of my low-income background pose a significant hurdle in achieving these dreams. The WCEJ Thornton Foundation Low-Income Scholarship would not only alleviate these financial burdens but would also provide me with a platform to further my education and make Juntos a reality. The experiences I gained from working in the specialty coffee industry, as well as my internship at Stanford’s Center on Poverty and Inequality, have honed my skills in editorial content creation, project management, branding, and marketing. Coupled with my academic expertise in computer science and journalism, I believe I have the potential to make significant impacts in the world, given the right opportunities. In conclusion, I am a resilient individual with a passion for storytelling and technology who is dedicated to uplifting marginalized communities. Despite my financial constraints, I remain focused on my academic goals and entrepreneurial endeavors. A scholarship from the WCEJ Thornton Foundation would not only provide me with the financial assistance I desperately need but also serve as a testament to my resilience, ambition, and perseverance. It would be an affirmation of my efforts and dedication, as well as a catalyst for my future endeavors. Thank you for considering my application.
    Richard P. Mullen Memorial Scholarship
I come from a financially disadvantaged family, and today, I stand as a dedicated Journalism and Computer Science student at Georgia State University (GSU), propelled by a passion to effect societal transformation. My experience in the bustling specialty coffee industry in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I found part-time employment, provided me with a clear-eyed view of the stark realities of a thriving $170 billion industry. As I drew parallels between the struggles of international coffee laborers and those of baristas and marginalized workers at home, I became inspired to bring their stories to a broader audience. A transformative internship at Stanford’s Center on Poverty and Inequality further ignited my ambition to create Juntos, an initiative devised to amplify Afro-Latino voices, combat colorism, and uplift marginalized communities. My journey, however, has been punctuated by financial constraints and family tribulations. The early onset of my grandmother’s battle with alcoholism necessitated an abrupt shift to financial independence, and the absence of my father, coupled with a difficult relationship with my biological mother, exacerbated my struggles. Nevertheless, I drew strength from adversity, earning my GED, and maintaining a steadfast commitment to my education with the support of my teachers and counselors. From these trials emerged an insatiable desire for social change and a budding entrepreneurial spirit. I hope to found Juntos, a multimedia-publishing venture focused on uniting the Afro-Latino community, and Spacebar, an initiative merging coffee, mixology, and event planning. Unfortunately, financial instability threatens the viability of these ventures. This scholarship represents more than financial assistance; it serves as an affirmation of my efforts and a catalyst for my aspirations. It will aid in my educational pursuits at GSU and the realization of initiatives like Juntos, while also providing networking opportunities that align with my mission. Through my entrepreneurial endeavors, I found a way to channel my passion. Juntos, the publishing company, aims to combat colorism and uplift marginalized communities. Spacebar seeks to create unique sensory experiences by merging coffee, mixology, and event planning. My professional journey is a testament to my persistence and competence. Whether it was creating beverage narratives as a Barista at Gilly Brew Bar or advocating for hourly coffee workers at Go Fund Bean, I have constantly strived for growth and impact. My experiences as the owner of Spacebar and an intern at Stanford University’s Center on Poverty and Inequality further underscore my leadership, innovation, and commitment to social change. In essence, my journey is reminiscent of the diverse and complex nature of the coffee beans that sparked my purpose. With a vision to blend coffee, art, technology, and service, I aim to foster transformative community experiences and advocate for social justice. I am confident that this scholarship will not only validate my efforts but also serve as an investment in a resilient future characterized by innovation, community development, and steadfast commitment, mirroring the legacy of Richard P. Mullen.
Dr. Alexanderia K. Lane Memorial Scholarship
A Cup of Resilience: Brewing Change One Story at a Time I remember the first time I held a cup of coffee as a child. The aroma, the warmth, and the sense of comfort it brought to my family’s modest home in California. Little did I know this cup would be the vessel that would navigate me through a journey of resilience, compassion and a relentless pursuit of education. The same cup would also be the catalyst for my aspiration to uplift marginalized communities and foster social justice. This journey has led me to Georgia State University to study Computer Science and Journalism. Born into California’s vibrant yet financially strapped streets, I was instilled with an unyielding and rebellious spirit. My early introduction to the booming $170 billion specialty coffee industry illuminated the harsh realities of laborers at the industry’s tail end. These narratives of struggle, hardship, and resilience resonated with me, a young man grappling with financial constraints, family complications, and a quest for identity. This parallel sparked a fire in me to amplify marginalized narratives, humanizing the struggles of the voiceless and making their stories relatable to the common audience. My academic journey at GSU allowed me to harness my passion for storytelling and technology, fostering a unique blend of art and service. My passion to fight social injustices grew stronger after an internship at Stanford’s Center on Poverty and Inequality. Inspired, I envisioned Juntos, an initiative to unite Afro-Latino voices and combat colorism. In the entrepreneurial realm, I founded Spacebar, a venture bridging coffee, mixology, and event planning, aiming to create immersive sensory experiences. Through this, I learned the significance of forging connections, uplifting local artists, and promoting sustainability. I also served as a board advisor for Go Fund Bean, supporting hourly coffee workers and creating sustainable programs. These experiences have honed my skills in community engagement and program development, furthering my resolve to uplift marginalized communities and promote social justice. My journey, marked by financial constraints and family complications, has been challenging. However, these trials strengthened my resilience and fueled my ambition. Therapy provided the emotional support I needed, allowing me to understand my reality better and fortify my resolve. Despite these hurdles, I earned my GED and continued my educational journey, proving that resilience, determination, and a platform can overcome any barrier. The importance of helping others is ingrained in my narrative. I have learned that in uplifting others, we not only contribute to their success but also foster a sense of community, empathy, and compassion. This belief aligns with the values of the late Dr. Alexanderia K. Lane, whose legacy I aspire to continue. A scholarship is more than financial support. It is a validation of my efforts, an affirmation of my commitment, and a catalyst for my future endeavors. With this scholarship, I can bring ventures like Juntos to life, create networking opportunities, and alleviate my financial burden, allowing me to focus on my academic and career goals without constant worry. In conclusion, my journey, steeped in resilience and a desire for social change, is as multifaceted as the coffees in the industry where I found my purpose. I am a testament to the power of resilience, the importance of education, and the impact of helping others. This scholarship is not just an investment in my academic journey but also an endorsement of a future characterized by resilience, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to community growth. I am Aireus Robinson, and I am ready to brew change, one story at a time.
    Mohamed Magdi Taha Memorial Scholarship
My story begins in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingles with the cadence of spoken word poetry across many venues. I am Aireus Robinson, a 24-year-old Computer Science and Journalism student at Georgia State University. My life has been shaped by resilience, ambition, and a profound commitment to elevate my community. Much like Mohamed Magdi Taha, the courageous and compassionate individual this scholarship commemorates, I have been an ‘up-stander’ within my community. I have leveraged my voice and actions to champion change, shedding light on the trials of the marginalized and utilizing my abilities to bring their narratives to the forefront. As Mohamed advocated for a free and fair Sudan, I, too, am committed to fostering a just and equitable society. I started my journey in California, where my family and I struggled financially. Yet, these circumstances did not stifle my ambition; they ignited it. As a teenager, I immersed myself in the thriving specialty coffee industry of the San Francisco Bay Area. I learned about the power of art and community engagement in the atmosphere of freshly ground coffee and espresso machines. Through this, I recognized that everyone, regardless of status or occupation, has a story that merits attention. This epiphany laid the groundwork for my academic and professional aspirations. Georgia State University's Music Technology & Sound Design program combines technology, art, and storytelling. Through this, I had the idea of Juntos, a multi-media publishing company that aims to bring Afro-Latino voices together to fight colorism. Although not yet realized, Juntos stands as a testament to my dedication to harnessing my voice for positive change. However, my journey has been challenging. My interest in AI was further deepened by my involvement in African-American storytelling and my experiences as a barista in the coffee industry, where I witnessed the multifaceted aspects of this domain. Throughout my journey, I have always been driven to empower underrepresented communities and address global inequalities. Founding Spacebar, a sustainable tea and coffee mixology business, allowed me to advocate for sustainability and collaborate with fellow artists. Interning at Stanford University's Center on Poverty and Inequality and Red by Coffee expanded my understanding of the potential AI has for driving socio-economic transformation. In addition, my participation in non-profit organizations such as GoFundBean, Glitter Cat, and other community support initiatives has strengthened my commitment to finding AI-driven solutions. Life has presented its share of challenges, including familial difficulties, financial constraints, and navigating my identity as an African-American. However, I have embraced resilience in the face of adversity and transformed these challenges into catalysts that propel me towards my post-graduation aspirations. Specifically, I aim to delve deeper into the realm of creative marketing, amplify the voices of marginalized communities, and utilize AI to create innovative multimedia experiences that promote socio-economic equity, particularly within the coffee industry. Receiving the AI Innovators Undergraduate Scholarship would provide significant financial support for my academic endeavors and serve as validation of the value of my journey. It would acknowledge my accomplishments, endorse my determination, and provide the crucial resources necessary for me to leverage the tremendous potential of AI technologies in driving meaningful change. The project leverages AI technology to convert audio recordings into text through advanced Audio-to-Text algorithms. The resulting text is processed using Language Model algorithms to enhance clarity, coherence, and overall narrative structure. This project aims to empower individuals to share their stories and experiences through various multimedia formats, such as podcasts, books, and multimedia productions. By employing AI for the Audio-to-Text conversion and using Language Models for text refinement, the project enables the seamless transformation of spoken narratives into written content, making it accessible and engaging to a broader audience. The project tackles the challenge of preserving the authenticity and emotional essence of spoken narratives while ensuring the production of high-quality written content. By employing AI technologies, we aim to capture the nuances of each individual’s voice, emotions, and unique storytelling style and faithfully translate them into written form. This process involves refining the transcribed text through iterative revisions and fine-tuning using Language Models to ensure the output maintains the original intent and impact of the spoken narratives. The impact of this project is twofold. First, it allows individuals from diverse backgrounds and communities to have their voices heard and stories shared on a broader scale. By democratizing the production of fully written scripts and narratives, we strive to amplify underrepresented voices and promote inclusivity in media and storytelling. Second, the project seeks to revolutionize the traditional scriptwriting and narrative development processes by incorporating AI technologies. By automating the conversion of audio to text and leveraging Language Models for enhanced storytelling, we streamline and accelerate the production process while maintaining the integrity and creative essence of the original narratives. As the project is ongoing, I collaborate with individuals, gather feedback, and refine the AI algorithms to ensure optimal performance and user experience. The iterative nature of the project allows for continuous improvement, adaptation to diverse storytelling styles, and exploration of new possibilities in multimedia content creation. By working on this project, I am exploring AI’s transformative potential in storytelling and actively contributing to developing innovative approaches to narrative production. I am excited to witness the positive impact of this project as it empowers individuals to share their stories, promotes diverse representation, and reshapes the landscape of multimedia content creation.

    Lieba’s Legacy Scholarship
I was nine when I first understood the profound impact of expressing one’s emotions and ideas through art. Tucked away in the tiny room I shared with my grandparents, I sketched my perception of the world. Lines intertwined to form a grandparent nursing an illness, a young boy marginalized due to his racial identity, and a silent hope emerging from hardship. I am now a student at Georgia State University, embarking on a journey to foster the emotional and intellectual needs of gifted children like Lieba. Life dealt me a challenging hand. Abandoned by my biological mother and unacknowledged by my father, I was thrust into the care of my grandparents. Our modest California dwelling, where financial struggles and racial tension intertwined, gave birth to my resilience and self-reliance. However, it also fostered an acute understanding of the power of connection, the tenacity of the human spirit, and the importance of empathy, mirroring Lieba Joran’s legacy of compassion and justice. During my formative years, my grandparents, despite battling alcoholism, HIV, Hepatitis C, and diabetes, served as shining examples of humanity. My grandmother, a social worker, and my grandfather, a musician, imbued a deep-seated respect for service, communication, and connection in me. As an artist, I embraced this, using my work to portray underrepresented stories and perspectives. At Stanford University, where I secured a pivotal internship, I employed storytelling to amplify the narratives of marginalized communities. Coupled with my interest in the specialty coffee industry, I leveraged art and mixology to illuminate the often-ignored realities of this $170-billion domain. In doing so, I discovered a profound connection between sensory experiences and narratives, a connection I aim to foster throughout my career. My aspirations extend beyond earning a degree; I aim to engender societal change. At Georgia State University, I have been diligently laying the groundwork for Juntos, a BIPOC-focused publishing company. This enterprise marries sensory experiences with storytelling, providing a platform for underrepresented identities. This mission aligns seamlessly with Lieba Joran’s pursuits - nurturing kindness, advocating for justice, and creating societal harmony. Adversity informed and galvanized my career goals. The hardships I faced early in life served not as impediments but as fuel for personal growth and resilience. Lieba’s spirit of standing up for justice, irrespective of popularity or social standing, resonates deeply with me and my mission. I aim to use multimedia and creative marketing to give a voice to traditionally misunderstood and marginalized communities, much like Lieba did. I believe in the transformative power of sharing experiences and humanizing narratives. With the Lieba’s Legacy Scholarship, I plan to further my studies and deepen my involvement in creating platforms for underrepresented voices. The scholarship would alleviate the financial burden of tuition, enabling me to devote more energy to academics and the development of Juntos. I plan to transform Juntos into a creative consulting firm that champions artists in constructing unique marketing experiences, echoing Lieba’s spirit of creativity and compassion. By doing so, I aspire to empower these artists to profoundly affect their local communities and help gifted children like Lieba receive the emotional and intellectual support they deserve. I stand at the precipice of my aspirations, ready to translate dreams into reality. My journey has been marked by adversity, yet through these hardships, I have found strength, resilience, and a purpose that aligns with Lieba’s mission. With the support of this scholarship, I am confident in furthering Lieba’s legacy, advocating for empathy, justice, and harmony, while nurturing the growth of gifted, misunderstood children.

I'm passionate about empowering marginalized communities by amplifying their voices through perspective storytelling. I discovered this passion during my internship at Stanford University's Center on Poverty and Inequality, where I was the only African-American employed. I had an identity crisis as my research involved minorities that fell through the cracks of society—a margin I narrowly avoided. While interning at Stanford (which was a blessing given to me through a non-profit organization called the 'Allstars Project.'), I came to understand that I was very different. Being surrounded by academic intellectuals was daunting and extremely overwhelming, as was I in a secondary-education program for those that dropped out of high school. On the one hand, this was a significant opportunity for me to catch up to my peers; on the other, researching the same communities I grew up in made me exceedingly uncomfortable. My identity crisis didn't get better as I entered college. Following in the footsteps of my grandfather (a jazz musician), I pursued Music Technology. However, as a black male in America, whenever I brought up my major in conversations, it would be assumed that I was either a rapper or a singer. These are the perceptions of me, of us. Much like artists Earl Sweatshirt (Rapper and son of Poet Keorapetse Kgositsile) and Donald Glover (Childish Gambino), I found myself caught between worlds, a literal grey area as Earl Sweatshirt phrases it on the song 'Chum'; "Too black for the white kids, and too white for the blacks." I didn't fit in back 'home' in the community I grew up in... But being an outsider looking in—reading about incarceration rates and graduation rates of black Americans felt gross. I was intrigued, yet uncomfortable all the same. With each page, I felt as if I were deciphering a piece of myself as I came to learn more about how we, as a community, got to this point. That's all a black male in music can ever be; a rapper or a singer. America disregards the black male's ability to build the software that music is recorded on—or develop and craft the instrumentation/synthesizers that musicians utilize globally. Due to society's expectations (and my college's lack of Computer Science classes in the 'Music Technology' pathway), I switched my major to Computer Science and Journalism to carve my career path independent of the expectations of society. Soon after graduation, I plan to launch a career in creative marketing for a company that values and promotes underrepresented identities in all forms of multimedia. As a multimedia artist with years of experience in brand development, I'm eager to use my skills to share the stories of those who feel they are underrepresented and under-served. An end goal for me would be to establish a Creative Consulting company that assists artists in developing unique and creative marketing experiences that promote themselves and their local communities. In addition to my academic and artistic pursuits, I bring a unique perspective to the specialty coffee industry, where I've built up my brand-development skills over the last five years. I've used my platform to shed light on the harsh realities plaguing the 170-billion-dollar industry. By juxtaposing the minimum-wage pay of western societies to the marginalized (and grossly underpaid) coffee farmers, I bring light to two similar issues through a common association. Through my art, I also bring attention to similar issues by using coffee and mixology to tell stories through the cultural-historical journeys of ingredients. As a muralist assistant and frequent collaborator, I bring life to these stories in an engaging way that stimulates the human senses. Thank you Aireus

Does the sound in our environment directly affect our mental and behavioral health? Do the towns of Georgia nestled between beds of trees, promote a healthier living environment than the concrete jungles of metropolitan cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, or San Francisco? Through studying Music-Technology at Georgia Tech University, I hope to obtain a brighter understanding on how sound and vibrations affect us and the world around us. In academia, sound healing is a relatively understudied field, especially western culture. By bridging the understanding of physics with the mysticism of sound healing, I hope to establish a platform where-in we can take a deeper look at the world around us, and be more intentional with the planning of city-infrastructure to include more 'quiet' areas, where the noise pollution city won't host a negative impact on our mental and physical health. Studies have shown heightened mental health disorders in those of whom live in high-impact areas of noise pollution, with lowered rates of symptoms such as anxiety or depression for those who live in areas where noise pollution is less prevalent.

Modern-day music therapy is best described as the utilization of music to allow individuals to freely express themselves to overcome their disabilities. Music therapy has also allowed others to process their independent traumas through song and dance. More recently, however, it's been found that sonically, music/vibrations have applications that extend far beyond their cognitive therapeutic usage. The usage of sound (or vibrations) to provoke change within the body and mind is a field known as Sound Healing. Sound Healing in Western Culture is not only understudied but often misrepresented. It is chock-full of misinformation that plagues the community, leading to individuals making bogus, fraudulent claims on behalf of the Sound Healing community. Thankfully, physics research has supplied the Sound Healing community with ample knowledge to establish a solid foundation on which their claims have been built. For example, everything has a resonant frequency, even if you can't perceive the sounds themselves. A resonant frequency is a natural vibration frequency determined by the vibrating object's physical parameters (http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/hframe.html). The vibrating object often prefers several resonant frequencies, often 'filtering' out those with which it does not naturally resonate. This remains true in absolute zero, the state in which particles become so cold that particles only maintain their quantum mechanical vibrations. Therefore, even in quantum physics, whilst under the principles of absolute zero, particles still move, identifying a presentation of vibration on the most minimal scale of general understanding of our perceived reality. Although particle physicists are but a part of the understanding of Sound Healing and the impact that vibrations have on the physical world. In the medical field, ultrasound is a technology that adapts a human understanding of echolocation to create images generated from the reverberance of ultrasonic-waves. Alternatively, ultrasound has been used to break down kidney stones by using even higher frequencies to disrupt their structure. These sounds are of such a high frequency that humans can't audibly perceive them—yet these waves are used to improve lives every day. However, instruments of Sound Healing don't have to be of modern origin. Tuning forks and Tibetan Singing Bowls have been observed to facilitate change within our natural brain waves, promoting a state of calming within the listener when operated correctly. With a history dating over 2500 years ago, the instruments and effects of frequencies is still a relatively new field to be explored by western medicine. With a degree in Music Technology (Focus in Acoustics and Vibrations), I hope to take a deeper look into how vibrations can assist in preventative care for illnesses such as Alzheimer's & dementia. By returning to California I will continue my studies in the field of Sound Healing at Globe Institute. Globe institute was founded by David Gibson. David Gibson is an audio engineer that is often regarded as a pioneer in the industry. Gibson foresaw a future where engineers would mix audio in an augmented or virtual environment, allowing for 1:1 room replicas in a simulated space. These combined studies will hopefully give me the knowledge necessary to develop a future where the music we listen to through streaming services will have a positive outcome to our mental and physical well-being.
