I am extremely passionate about engines. Cars, boats, jet skis, dirt bikes and small engines. I love to take things apart and see how they run. I like to think I can fix just about anything. I’m going to UTI in Orlando in the fall for marine mechanics. I can’t wait to get started and make a career for myself in this field.

Ever since I was little I have been obsessed with all kinds of marine crafts. I've worked on boats and jet-skis for my family and friends. I've always enjoyed working on engines and figuring out why something isn't working and how to fix it.
For these reasons, I am pursuing a career in diesel marine mechanics. I will be attending Universal Technical Institute in the fall. They have a great hands-on program.
They also have great relationships with a lot of companies looking for marine mechanics.
Once while on a boat tour over in Maine the boat we were on broke down. The captain was very good but didn't know much about engines. He said he would have to radio for help and we could be out there for several hours. There were people who were seasick and a lot of little kids on board.
I offered to take a look but I was only a young teenager at the time. The captain was hesitant because he was worried about liability if I got hurt. I think he also didn't really think a kid my age could know that much about engines.
My dad and I were finally able to convince him to let me help and I took a look. The problem wasn't that serious and had happened on a friend's boat before. I was able to temporarily fix the engine with the tools they had stored under a seat. We were able to get back to the docks and everyone was thanking me. It felt really good to help me save us from being stuck out there.
While we were on the dock talking to the captain and saying goodbye their marine mechanic showed up. He talked to me for a while and I let him know what I did. He was impressed and told me I'd make a good mechanic someday. He said there weren't enough marine mechanics.
From what I've heard there are even fewer people in the marine mechanic field now. Eventually, I would like to open my own workshop. First, though I would like to travel which should be possible with a certificate like mine. I could work on cruise ships or private yachts. I plan to make a name for myself and be considered a master in my field.
This is why I'm passionate about diesel marine mechanics. I am looking forward to working hard at school in the fall and learning new things.

1. Marine mechanic field
2. I grew up boating on the lake near my house. I've worked on jet skis and all different kinds of boats. I can't wait to learn more about the different kinds of engines that are out there. Once I graduate I cou,d work on cruise ships or yachts. This career will also be something I can do anywhere. I could travel to a lot of different places and see more of the world.
3. I am in precision metals class in school and we have worked on all kinds of welding projects. I've worked on MIG and TIG welding. We've done projects on cars and snowmobiles and all kinds of other things. I bought a broken tractor and fixed it to race a year or so ago. I've also taken apart my old jet ski and my snowmobile and work on them a lot. Parts are always needing to be replaced. I also build and fly drones.
I bought my car which is a Mazda and ive done a lot of work on it. I improved the sounds system and also did some welds on it.
My part time job is at a machine shop where I work a lot on chainsaws.
4. I have already been accepted to UTI Orlando's marine mechanics program. After I was accepted I started getting letters from different companies like Volvo saying they are interested in talking to me after graduation.
UTI has a really good relationship with the big companies in the marine field. There are job fairs at UTI where you can meet different employers. I'm excited to get through school so I can start my career. My dad is an electrician and always told me how important the trades are. I think if I work hard at school I will be able to have a great career in the marine field.
Im especially interested in the diesel aspect of marine mechanics. I think I am going to learn a lot of new things that I can use to work on my own projects and at work.
5. They would recommend me because I have an obsession with engines and seeing how they work. I'm a hard worker and they know I'll put everything I learn in to practice in my life. I've been in to boats and motors since I was a little kid and anyone who knows me would tell you that. I can't wait to start and get some new experience.
