Salutations! I'm Adrien Charles, a native of Saint Martinville, Louisiana, and a senior at Stillman College right now. I have pursued a healthcare-focused degree, with a focus on pharmacy technology and phlebotomy. These fields have molded my passion for patient care and community health in addition to giving me useful technical skills. In addition to my academic pursuits, I aspire to have a significant influence in the healthcare industry. My objective is to use my expertise to enhance healthcare outcomes and access, especially in marginalized areas. For me, working as an Upward Bound counselor in the summers of 2023 and 2024 has been a crucial experience. It gave me the opportunity to guide and assist young students, encouraging them to seek higher education and assisting them in overcoming obstacles in their academic lives. My dedication to education and community service has been strengthened by this role, which has also directly demonstrated the transformational potential of mentoring. My professional objectives and life desires are tightly related, looking ahead. My goal is to keep developing professionally in the healthcare industry and maybe move up into positions where I can have an impact on healthcare administration and policy. My ultimate goal is to help build a healthcare system that is more equal by making sure that everyone, regardless of background or circumstance, has access to high-quality care. Actively managing and repaying my school loans has been one of my biggest successes to date. This financial responsibility not only shows my dedication to my own financial well-being but also conserves funds that I can use to further my future. I know exactly what I want to do with the money I save from paying off these loans: I want to concentrate on purchasing a house. This is more than simply a physical place to live; it's a symbol of security, stability, and an important turning point in my life. Having a home of my own will give me a solid base from which to confidently pursue my career and personal objectives. Being involved in the community is fundamental to who I am. I regularly participate in volunteer opportunities and local healthcare projects in addition to my work with Upward Bound. I'm dedicated to giving back to my community and having a positive influence wherever I can, whether that be by educating others about health issues or offering practical help to those in need. I am thrilled about the prospects that lie ahead as I look forward. My goals for the future include reaching personal milestones like home ownership, improving healthcare outcomes for others, and keeping learning and developing in my area. I am appreciative of my education's support, the chances I have to give back to my community, and the ability to truly change the world. In conclusion, my path as a student and advocate for healthcare is characterized by a commitment to education, volunteerism, and personal development. A big step in realizing my goal of becoming a homeowner, paying off my student debts is a testament to my tenacity, foresight, and dedication to creating a better future. I am excited about the future and want to keep having a positive influence on my community and professional career.

I work as a phlebotomist because I have a strong desire to improve the world by providing the best possible patient care, encouraging health awareness, and advocating for medical improvements. This is how I want to have a significant influence: I will first concentrate on providing patient-centered treatment. I am aware that getting a blood sample can be unsettling and frightening for many people. For this reason, I work hard to establish a welcoming atmosphere for each patient. I want to reduce fear and build trust by paying attention to their worries, being patient, and providing comprehensive explanations of procedures. This method not only makes the patient experience better, but it also motivates people to take a more active role in their treatment. Secondly, I am committed to upholding the utmost accuracy and precision in my work. Blood samples collected by phlebotomists are crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. I will consistently adhere to established protocols and best practices to ensure the integrity and reliability of every sample. By maintaining these high standards, I contribute directly to the quality of healthcare provided to patients, supporting healthcare providers in delivering timely and effective treatments. Additionally, I recognize the importance of patient education in promoting health literacy. I plan to take the time to educate patients about the purpose of their blood tests, the significance of their results, and any necessary follow-up actions. Empowered with this knowledge, patients can make informed decisions about their health and participate more actively in managing chronic conditions or preventive care. In addition, I regard myself as a partner in medical innovation and research. Blood samples taken during standard operations can help advance medical science by helping to create novel therapies, improved diagnostic techniques, and strategies for preventing disease. I contribute significantly to these efforts by making sure samples are collected accurately and handled properly. My dedication to keeping accurate records and abiding by ethical standards guarantees that researchers will have access to trustworthy information that may improve the state of world health. Finally, I want to promote equity and access to healthcare. I think that everyone should have access to diagnostic tests and other basic healthcare services. As part of my job, I'll actively support programs that increase underprivileged populations' access to healthcare and fight for laws that prioritize equitable healthcare distribution. My compassionate nature and ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals alike enable me to build strong relationships and contribute positively to team dynamics. I am eager to leverage my skills and passion to make a meaningful impact on the healthcare field as Adrien Charles.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
Through my participation in the Upward Bound program, my experience with mental health has dramatically affected my relationships, ambitions, and worldview. As a counselor in this program, I've worked with students who have a range of mental health issues, such as stress, anxiety, and depression brought on by personal and academic demands. Through these exchanges, I have gained priceless knowledge on the significance of mental health and how it affects both personal development and academic achievement. First off, my experience with mental health has strengthened my resolve to help students in both their academic and emotional needs. I am aware of how important mental health is to a student's success in the classroom and beyond. My objective is to establish a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere where students feel comfortable talking honestly about their mental health issues and getting the treatment they require without feeling judged or stigmatized. My experience has taught me the value of patience, empathy, and active listening in relationships. Effectively addressing students' mental health problems requires developing trust with them. Through cultivating significant relationships founded on comprehension and deference, I may more effectively assist students in managing obstacles and accomplishing their objectives. In addition, working with Upward Bound has exposed me to a variety of viewpoints and experiences, which has deepened my awareness of the world. I now recognize the distinct challenges and assets of students from various backgrounds, especially those who deal with prejudice, socioeconomic inequality, and other structural obstacles. This knowledge has strengthened my dedication to equity and activism, inspiring me to support policies and programs that enhance kids' mental health and academic performance. All in all, the Upward Bound program's experience with mental health has enhanced my worldview, solidified my commitment to providing holistic student care, and fortified my interpersonal abilities. It has influenced my ambitions by motivating me to seek a profession in which I can carry on improving the lives of students by making sure they have the tools and assistance necessary to succeed both intellectually and personally.

Adrien Charles Scholarship Essay Music Education Major 03/21/2021 Why did you choose to pursue a degree in Education and what are your plans? The reason why I choose to pursue a degree in Music Education is that music is very dear to my heart. Music has helped me on many platforms in life. Getting through hard times or just in general help get through the day. I use music in almost everything that I do. Listening to old-school music like Michael Jackson, Erykah Badu, or Jill Scott helps me get my schoolwork done, helps me work out, and helps me learn a lesson about life and its values. Music Education is not only a degree, it is a culture for me. I am from Louisiana where music is life through the streets, swamps, and bayous. Music has always been of great significance to me. When I got to high school, I joined the marching band and became a part of an organization that would later affect me on a whole new level. I fell in love with being able to play an instrument and play with my peers. Being in the marching band has shown me new heights in my life and pushed me to become a better person for the world. Music gave me friends that I still talk to this day and help on a personal basis. My plans after graduation are to go back to the high school that I graduated from and take over the marching band program. Music was a blessing in my city. I watched it help many of my friends get off the streets and grab an instrument. Right now, the band program does not have an interim band director and I hate seeing it deteriorate. Music in school can help students' concentration skills and improve their decision-making and critical thinking skills. Music can also help with disciplining the mindset of a student and put them on the right track to educational success. Music is a language of the Universe as my band director has always preached to me. He always told me that no matter what, music will always be there in many forms. I going to use my degree to help students realize that music can save lives. Music is the key to better progress in schools. I want to show my future students that music can take you on a journey. Music can lead you to your future success. No matter if you want to be a lawyer, doctor, engineer or etc. Music can help gain the resources that you need to make it there. Music is a cause and opportunities are the effects. I would like to take my passion and help at least 1 to 10 students every year as a music teacher. My goal will be complete because the bigger picture is making sure that the students reach and achieve their goals. They are the future and the runners of the new world that is coming. I want to teach them and guide them the right way using music as my philosophy.
