I want to become the best version of myself that I can be; an intelligent, kind, hardworking, loving person. My education, previous and future, is a very important part of that.
For my overall life career, my dream is to become a Veterinarian.
When I was younger, I had two dogs. Zowee, a Shih Tzu, and Molly, a mystery mutt with the prettiest brown-to-black fade on her ears you ever did see. Neither got to stay with our family for more than a year.
I had a very rough childhood, my parents would often fight loudly, which left me a pretty fearful kid. Luckily, for some of my life, I had help with me in the form of an animal companion.
When I had a dog, I had something that depended on me and loved me- a faithful companion. The second dog, Molly, often crawled into bed with me while my parents yelled to wriggle her little body as close to mine as she could.
I remember my last day with Molly vividly. She had gotten hit by a car; she could barely move. I was the one who found her outside and carried her to the car while my parents frantically tried to calm my brothers down and get in the car themselves.
I cried the whole way to the vet.
When we got there, I couldn't go inside. I was too sad and scared. My parents went in and informed the staff of the situation, who came out with a little stretcher for Molly. I specifically remember they were so gentle with her and told me everything would be okay.
My parents decided to put Molly down that night. We didn't have the money at the time to even get the MRI to find out what was wrong with her little body, so there weren't many options. I still couldn't leave the car, as much as my mom urged me to. I never said goodbye to my dog.
I don't want any animal to cross the veil alone. Every time I look back at this memory, I'm laden with sadness and regret about how I wasn't with Molly while she died.
I want to save as many pets' lives as I can, and if I can't save them, I want that pet to feel loved and safe as they pass away.
To make this a reality, I need the tools that come from a good education. I'll be able to make a good difference in the world.
I firmly believe that becoming a Veterinarian will help me to become the best version of myself that I can be. It will push me to learn hard things and put me in the places I want to and need to be.
In the end, as the emergency vet staff told me, everything was okay. I was taken care of, and Molly got to have peace and be relieved of her pain. As soon as possible I'll get another dog, and until then I'll study as hard as I can so I know how to help them.
