My name is Abigail Reavis. I am currently a senior in high school. I joined Bold to apply for and get nominated for scholarships in order to pursue my career goals. I am planning to major in Food and Nutrition. My field of interest is in Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition Services. This path interests me most because, being a type 1 diabetic myself, I have a desire to help others. I feel as though I am the perfect candidate to be a finalist and win scholarship money because I am very determined and strive to achieve what I set out to accomplish, academically and beyond.

Giving is important to me for a vast number of reasons. There are several benefits to being a giver. There is a particular beatitude that stands out to me most in regards to giving, and that is, “It is more blessed(better) to give than receive”(Acts 20:35).
Throughout my years of growing, learning, and maturing in to the young woman and adult I am today, I have come to realize that an individual will experience greater joy and generate additional ‘blessings’ from giving than from receiving. When we give, we put ourselves in a place of humility, which is the most powerful position and approach to life a person can have.
I do my best to possess a giving spirit when it comes to any and every situation at hand, for example- offering help to those in need by donating goods, organizing and collecting food and supplies for local shelters, and by volunteering my time to lead and organize drives and collections, such as providing products for women in need, and arranging care packages for those newly diagnosed with conditions such as type one diabetes.
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”
- Mahatma Gandhi.
From my experience(s), service is a fulfilling activity that allows one to discover their true and authentic self and learn what is truly important and worthwhile in this life.
