The first time I created something using my beginner coding skills, I impressed myself and 15 elementary students. I made a random number generator using Python code. I know this is very simple, but at the time, I was a beginner and still trying to understand and comprehend coding and how all the components worked together to create something basically out of thin air. I felt like Harry Houdini, all I did was type out symbols, and it made a functional element right before my eyes. I came up with the idea of this number generator when I used to tutor elementary school students. Each day I would come in and have them all guess a number 1-20. Whoever was the closest got to be my helper for the day, like the line leader, or get the pencils and notebooks out from the cabinet. They all loved it so much until one day, I got tired of picking the same numbers and wanted to ensure that my number choice was completely random, so I turned to Google to pick a random one. It was also a big hit. One day, one of my students asked how Google knows how to pick a number; I explained coding and how things are created, and their little minds were blown. They were even more shocked that I was going to college to become a developer who writes code. I couldn't get over how excited they got about the idea of coding, so I decided that I wanted to make a random number generator myself so I could amaze their little minds again. At the time, I was beginning college and only really knew how to build a website. But after a bit of help from youtube, I created one all by myself. Once it was completed, I showed my students; they loved it so much. I even showed them the behind-the-scenes. I was so proud of myself and was so happy that I was able to introduce the way that I see technology to the younger generation that knows nothing but technology. I have always been passionate and inspired by technology and all the opportunities it holds in our everyday life, and we don't even realize it. I knWhen I saw the spark of amazement go off in my student's eyes, it made me love technology so much more. I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in technology not only because it will constantly be advancing but because I can create anything; therefore are no limits.
