I am a Freshman at Auburn University studying Neuroscience and French. I am double majoring in these subjects and pursuing a pre-medical school curriculum in addition. Auburn does not offer a pre-med Neuroscience program so I have been communicating with the College Of Sciences and Mathematics to construct a plan of study that will be equivalent to one.
My course load is heavy but due to my high school education at the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science I have been taking everything in stride. My attendance at ASMS has allowed me to pull ahead of many of my peers in terms of maturity and accountability, many older students have expressed their shock at hearing I am freshman. In addition, ASMS boasts a level of academic challenge unheard of outside of select dual enrollment programs. I may be a freshman in college; however, I have been excelling in college level courses since high school.
I am eager to pursue research and internship opportunities in the coming years, but first I need to ensure that I can graduate within four years to make way for my younger brother. We will both be attending universities in the 2026-2027 academic year and the financial stress that will put on our family is my primary concern.

My Number 1 back-to-school tip is to separate your workspace and your relaxation space.
As a certified "dorm dweller", I speak from experience when I say trying to relax in a workspace does not work out. My first year of dorm life I completed all my homework in my room and boy did I regret it. Soon enough just being in my room had me stressing about not being productive. This was a problem because, you know, I slept there.
But luckily for me and you there is an easy fix! The best solution is to work OUTSIDE of your room. Your room is supposed to be the "Safe Zone" so do not bring all that negative energy in! Go to the library, work outside, claim a study room, even sit on the floor in a random hallway Just. Get. Out. and your quality of "dorm dwelling" life will increase dramatically!
