Bio

Hello, my name is Aalayah Gray. I am a multiracial woman of Asian (Filipino), African American, and Caucasian background striving only for success in my plans. I am an active leader and advocate for my community. I have volunteered at many organizations around the Evansville community from the Rescue mission, county meetings, and two Elementry Schools open houses and fundraiser nights. I have experience in the working field since the age of 16 years. I started as a cashier/runner then made my way to a trainer position. Later on, moved to work for HomeTown Wavier Solutions where I work with special needs children/adults. It has become the best job and had made me realize how to care for people and how much I want to impact others in the future. I have learned so much from the jobs I have worked at. I have been involved in many clubs and sports over my inter life. Since the age of 7, I started getting involved with my community and peers. I have done competitive cheer for 10 years, school cheer for 8 years, and a variety of other sports over the years. I am currently attending the University of Southern Indiana. Where I plan to get my bachelor's in nursing. Then become an RNA nurse. I am passionate and determined to reach the goals that I set for myself and can't wait for what the future holds! It has been difficult with the pandemic that has hit both my parent's jobs. So it makes me reliable for insuring the payment of all of my college loans. I thank the donors for their generous donations.

What I want most in this world is to be someone that lives life with no regrets, someone I am proud to be, and someone who can fight for what they want. I have always strived for the best of my ability no matter what life’s obstacles may bring me. Life isn’t always the easiest but I have worked hard with what I have been given. I have many academic goals for myself and a greatly desired career path that I hope to achieve one day not only for my family but most importantly for myself. I hope to start my undergraduate degree in general biology, complete a bachelor's degree, apply and get accepted into a dental school, and further my education in the orthodontics specialty. I have high goals and I want nothing more than to keep reaching for the stars. I plan to make the most out of what life has to give to me. I'm a person who thinks the glass is half full. Even though all the struggles and hardships life has hit me with I take the positive out of it and learn to be the best person I can truly be. Not only going through this pandemic with losing two of my loved ones, having grandparents who are severely ill during this time, and having a nonverbal autistic Aunt that has made me understand life differently. These life-changing experiences while managing to focus on school was one of the hardest things during my entire high school experience. Through the darkest times of my life, I managed to keep my education a priority. In my family education is important and being the first of my family to complete college would mean so much to me. Being multiracial of Filipino, African American and Caucasian descent have taught me the significance of different ethnicities and cultures. That’s the thing I love the most about myself/family that even with all of these different cultures we manage to respect each other's beliefs and I plan to do the same with the people I get to know. It’s important to learn and show how different ethnic backgrounds can bring to many communities. I plan to fulfill my educational goals to the best of my ability. I have been accepted to both colleges. I am considering the University of Southern Indiana and Indiana University. Where I plan to get my bachelor's in human biology. I am passionate and determined to reach the goals that I set for myself and can't wait for what the future holds! It has been difficult with the pandemic that has hit both my parent's jobs.

Since the age of 7, I have been evolved in various extra-curricular, volunteering, and work activities. I have been an active volunteer at the Evansville Rescue Mision, at various elementary schools in Evansville (McChutchenville and Scott) for open houses and fundraising nights, 4H children's booth, virtual commission meetings, church choir, Wednesday night bible study, and vacation bible school. At North High School, I was involved in the Link crew, volleyball, cheerleading, and track. Outside of school, I have been doing competitive cheer for 10 years. I have work experience since the age of 15 where I began babysitting my parent's friends' children for a low salary, then got my first job as a cashier at Panera Bread where I reached the trainer's position. Later started and currently work for HomeTown Waiver Solution where I work with special needs children. Working with these children has taught me so much about myself I never knew before. It truly has been the best experience ever getting the opportunity to make a difference. My financial situation since the pandemic has changed drastically. Unforuently since the coronavirus it has caused my parents to be out of their job and me as well. Since this dramatic take on my family's financial situation, we came to the best decision that I will be paying for all of my college expenses. This scholarship will impact me and more ways than known. Getting the opportunity to receive help on furthering my higher education will make me so grateful. I have been accepted to both colleges I am considering the University of Southern Indiana and Indiana University. Where I plan to get my bachelor's in human biology. Then apply for dental school. I am passionate and determined to reach the goals that I set for myself and can't wait for what the future holds! I thank the donors for their consideration and generous donations.
