Despite outnumbering men on most college campuses, women are still underrepresented in many fields, including business.

Women only own around 38% of businesses in the US and are even more underrepresented when it comes to business leadership. Only 5% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women and just 20% of Fortune 500 board members are women.

This scholarship seeks to support underrepresented women who are pursuing careers in business so they can make a difference in their community.

Any female student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at Purdue University may apply for this scholarship.

Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow, is my most favorite female character of all. She is strong, clever, resilient, and brave. Natasha as endured numerous hardships throughout her life, but they have made her stronger and have molded her to work towards becoming a better person. Natasha is an incredible assassin and Avenger. Her intelligence and combat abilities are nothing to scoff at, and despite being one of the only Avengers without superpowers or extremely advanced technology to back them up, she is able to stand on even footing with the rest of her team. She is known as the star pupil of the Red Room, where she had trained to become an assassin, which shows how much work she put into training to become the best, as only 1 out of roughly 20 girls graduated from the program. In the movie "Avengers", Natasha once said, "I've got red in my ledger, I'd like to wipe it out" while talking to Loki, meaning that she has done bad things in the past, but she is working towards making up for those mistakes. She could have just forgotten about what she had done, but instead she works towards making amends. This shows she is a responsible person with a strong moral code. In "Endgame", Natasha sacrificed her life so her partner and best friend Clint Barton could obtain the Soul Stone by throwing herself of a cliff so he wouldn't have to sacrifice himself and so he could get back his family. This shows how she knows what has to be done and is willing to give her life to make sure that the end goal is reached. Throughout her life, Natasha has been faced with endless trial and hardship, but she has never once backed down nor faltered. I admire her for her resilience in the face of difficulty and her drive to do what is needed and what is right. Despite leading a life of pain and tragedy, Natasha continued to move forwards, which I find admirable and inspiring. I want to be able to overcome any difficulty as she had during college and in my future career. Natasha Romanoff inspires me to become a stronger and better person through her story. She is the kind of person I want to be as an adult, and I want to learn from her and her mistakes to become as confident and resilient of a person as she was.

Carried me for 9 months, then ended up with scars due to the surgery she had to go through to have me. Mi mama - my mom. My mom inspires me because when the odds were all against her, she came through with determination and willpower. My mom did not have an easy upcoming. She grew up in an unprivileged household where she had no light to finish her homework. She lived through a war and still managed to graduate with a 3.8 GPA from high school. She went into computer engineering, blossomed, and became a college professor. After that, she married my dad and had me less than a year later. My mom sacrificed so much for my siblings and I. She gave up her family and her job to bring us here so that we can have a chance at a better future. She was not fluent in English, so she struggled to communicate with people. She stayed home while my dad worked and my sister and I went to school. However, her pregnancy with my baby brother put her life at risk. During her pregnancy, my mom found out she had gestational diabetes. She had to follow a strict diet with her food or she could lose the baby. This was a hard time for all of the family but seeing how she handled the situation and was determined to have her unborn child safely even if it meant not eating as much as she wanted to - keep in mind she was feeding not only herself, but another living human inside of her - was memorable to me. Another thing that inspired me was her striving to become the best version of herself. As mentioned before, my mom did not know English. However, she began listening to educational videos and practicing her speaking to go out in the community and be able to effectively communicate. After becoming better at English she got a job to help out our family with finances. The process was not easy, but she managed to secure a well-paying job that covered our needs. While working she made sure that every night there was food on the table, everyone went to bed with a full stomach, and had lunch in their bags the next day. There were days when she would wake up at 4 AM and go to bed at 11 PM just to make sure that everything was ready for the next day. If anyone else was in my mom’s shoes and went through the hardships she went through, they would have most likely crumble. This woman taught me that no matter what happens, the sun does not wait for you and shines the next day regardless. She motivates me to do better in life, and I hope that one day I can be as strong as her.
