Tyrell Terry "Challenge and Opportunity" Scholarship
“All of us might wish at times that we lived in a more tranquil world, but we don't. And if our times are difficult and perplexing, so are they challenging and filled with opportunity.” ― Robert Kennedy
The COVID-19 pandemic has fully taken our world by storm. For so many people, including myself, this has been an incredibly challenging time.
When adversity strikes us, there are two choices: we can fall right into the adversity and feel hopeless, or we can learn more and persevere, finding opportunity in even the most negative situations.
I was a full-time student athlete at Stanford University when the pandemic was beginning to take over. Of course, I had no idea that it would last this long, or how much my life would change in the time since. While the pandemic cancelled my 2019-2020 season, it also allowed me to take a step back and fully prepare for the next stage of my life.I was able to develop better habits for my mental health, become better about prioritizing my mental health, and allow myself to take a large step forward in maturity as the young man I am.
Education has always been important to me. It was a deciding factor in where I played college basketball. A lot of my personal growth has resulted from my time at Stanford University. So, I’ve organized this scholarship to help support two high school seniors — one in Minnesota and one in Texas — as they embark on the next chapter of their education.
