Sunshine "DC" Memorial Scholarship
The Sunshine “DC” Memorial Scholarship was established November 2023 in memory of Diega C. Clapp who left us too soon on December 23, 2022. She grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, a Historically Black College University, who valued education and engaged the student body in a liberal and free-spirited way. Diega was passionate about helping others and had a love for life-long learning. She knew how important education was in improving people, families, and the community. She had a kind gentle soul and spirit that left long lasting impressions on those who knew her and encountered her beloved spirit as a pillar of the community.
Giving back to your community fosters unity and shared responsibility. It strengthens social bonds, addresses local challenges, and improves the quality of life. When individuals volunteer, support local initiatives, or perform acts of kindness, they inspire others to join in, creating a more compassionate and resilient community. This practice not only benefits others but also fulfills the giver, shaping a stronger and more compassionate society.
This scholarship seeks to honor the legacy of Diega by supporting students who give back to their communities and those involved in their schools' programs/events.
Any African American high school senior or 4 year undergraduate student in Maryland, with at least a 2.5 GPA is eligible to apply. Students who participate in extracurricular activities will be given preference.
To apply, tell us how you give back to your community and how you plan to continue this responsibility after you graduate from college.
