Samuel D. Hartley Memorial Scholarship
Samuel D. Hartley served in the US Air Force from 1959 to 1963, where he played a crucial role in developing the film and prints of the missile sites during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. Afterward, he pursued his education at York College and held several employment positions throughout his career. Sam was a sales representative and district manager for Equitable Life Assurance Society for 12 years, a manufacturing representative for Garland Roofing Co. of Cleveland, Ohio, for 15 years, and worked for the PA Dept. of Revenue for five years.
Aside from his professional accomplishments, Sam was an active member of his community. He was a former member of the Gettysburg Elks Club and a current member of the American Legion. Sam was an avid golfer and had been an active participant in the Gettysburg Country Club for more than five decades. As a child, he had the opportunity to caddie for President Eisenhower on several occasions. Sam was recognized for his contributions to the sport in 2019 when he was elected to the Adams County Sports Hall of Fame for golf.
The Samuel D. Hartley Memorial Scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to students passionate about golf and striving to achieve their dreams in their chosen field as a tribute to the late Samuel D. Hartley.
High school seniors, undergraduates or graduates who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and are golfers are eligible to apply.

The winner will be publicly announced on Dec 15, 2024. Prior to the announcement date, we may contact finalists with additional questions about their application. We will work with donors to review all applications according to the scholarship criteria. Winners will be chosen based on the merit of their application.
Award checks will be sent to the financial aid office of the winner's academic institution or future academic institution in their name to be applied to their tuition, and in the name of their institution (depending on the school's requirements). If the award is for a qualified educational non-tuition expense, we will work with the winner directly to distribute the award and make sure it goes towards qualified expenses.
Before we award the scholarship, the winner will be required to confirm their academic enrollment status. Depending on the circumstances, verification of Student ID and/or their most recent transcript will be required.
