Robert Wechman was a dedicated professor and an endless supporter of his son, especially during his son’s struggles with mental illness.

He was not only an incredible father, but also an amazing example of how mental health should be talked about in society: in a de-stigmatized and supportive way.

In the United States, stigma is one of the key barriers that stop so many who suffer from mental illness from seeking treatment. Although 1 in 5 adults live with mental illness in their day to day lives, up to 52% of those who need treatment choose to try to ‘tough it out’ instead of seeking out the mental health care they deserve.

This scholarship is meant for a student who has personal experience with mental illness, and is passionate about challenging the stigma associated with mental health conversations and treatment.

Any high school student who is planning to attend a four year university, is in need of financial support, and has personal experience living with mental illness may apply for this scholarship.

To apply, tell us how your experiences with mental health have influenced your beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations, and how your experiences have influenced your desires to de-stigmatize mental health.
