Diversity in cosmetology matters.

The recent #PullUpOrShutUp challenge, initiated by Uoma Beauty founder Sharon Chuter in light of the Black Lives Matter movement, highlighted the beauty industry's lack of Black representation. Only three out of twelve companies had Black representation that was at or above the black population rate. Many big-name brands are yet to publish their numbers.

This is as much of a racial issue as it is an opportunity issue. Cosmetology school is expensive, and given that the average Black household earns less than the average white household, finances are often a barrier for members of the Black community who want to enter the industry.

Our Private Label team works directly with thousands of hairstylists and understands the challenges and expenses in getting a career started, especially for disadvantaged Black hair stylists.

To support more equitable opportunities and a more diverse future in the beauty industry, the Private Label Diversity in Cosmetology Scholarship will support one Black hairstylist attending or planning to attend cosmetology school.

There will be one award $2,500 award every quarter.

To apply, please submit a video link describing who you are, why you're interested in cosmetology, and how this scholarship would help you on your journey. When submitting your video, feel free to submit a link to Instagram, Youtube, Vimeo, or another platform of your choice.
