Mirajur Rahman's Satirical Experiential Essay Scholarship
We all know that the best jokes are the ones that are true. They can reveal deep insights about problems and prejudices in our society and break the ice so we can start working towards solutions.
Sometimes the most outrageous events we have witnessed speak to say something meaningful about the society or the world in general.
For example, parents giving their children their Frappuccino to stop them from whining doesn't actually help the kid. It just gives them a prescription for diabetes a few years in the future.
Sometimes it's hard to get people to talk about societal problems or how we can use humor to acknowledge problems in the real world that people are too scared to talk about. Almost like an ice breaker.
I want to create a scholarship to give $500 to one student who I feel has the best piece of satirical writing and honors this centuries-long tradition of satire.
In order to apply, write a short essay about an experience that you have you witnessed that made you worry for the future of humanity. Be sure to show your humorous and satirical side when writing your essay and have fun!
What experience have you witnessed that made you worry for the future of humanity?
