John F. Rowe, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
The Rowe Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of John F. Rowe, Jr., a New York City
firefighter, Army veteran, animal lover and Fordham University graduate who accomplished so much to serve his city and country before we lost him too soon. John’s educational journey was not a straight and easy path. Growing up in the New York City “projects,” John struggled through school as he worked jobs since he was 14 years old. The military changed his life, bringing new focus and order that ultimately helped him achieve his goal: To earn a college degree and join the New York Fire Department where he could continue serving the great city and country he loved.
This scholarship hopes to honor John's memory by supporting a high school senior from New York who has overcome adversity and hopes to enter into a career where they help others.
High school seniors, current undergraduates or current trade school students from New York who have overcome adversity and hope to enter a public service career may apply.
To apply, please share about any challenges you have had to overcome and what calls you to a career in public service.
How have you overcome great challenges to continue to pursue your educational goals? Why do you feel a call to public service?
